Concept to Creation. Precision to the Finest Detail.

A new killer equipment for digital content creation and entertainment, the ASUS PB Series PB278Q LED monitor incorporates exciting performance and features demanded by professionals and designers. A colossal 27" screen size means more viewing real estate, 2560 x 1440 WQHD packs four times the pixels of 720p, so you can see more content on the screen and accomplish tasks with less mouse roll. The LED display affords 178° wide viewing angles for better productivity. ASUS exclusive Splendid Video Intelligence Technology, QuickFit Virtual Scale, and 100% sRGB fidelity ensure reality-defining color and image accuracy, complete with rich stereo sound from twin 3W speakers. An ergonomic design allows easy adjustment of tilt, swivel, pivot, and height, enabling you to enjoy the visual brilliance in extreme comforts.

  • newegg True-to-life Visuals The PB278Q features a 16:9 aspect ratio and a LED-backlit 27” WQHD display that provides 109 pixels per inch (PPI), resulting in high quality 2560 x 1440 visuals – equaling four times the resolution of standard 720p sets. It allows users to view greater image detail and do more with an onscreen footprint larger than that of standard displays. The screen’s 109PPI density means there are 109 RGB matrices within one inch. Generally, the more pixels a display has, the more lighting (or power) those pixels require to achieve the best visuals. However, with advanced LED backlighting on the PB278Q, power and energy savings are no longer compromised, while better visuals are assured.
  • newegg Made for Work and Play The ASUS PB278Q provides an ultra-wide 178° viewing angle on both horizontal and vertical planes, thereby minimizing onscreen color shift even when viewed from extreme angles. With its WQHD display, you enjoy 77% more desktop space than a full HD screen to spread out your windows and palettes. It is also about 25% sharper than a generic 27” full HD display, delivering ultra-smooth visuals thanks to 5ms (GTG) response time. This ensures you get lag-free experiences in movies and gaming, with the latter looking more vivid, with all in-game details shown in true color. The ASUS PB278Q is undoubtedly your best choice for work and play.
  • newegg QuickFit Virtual Scale for true what you see is what you get ASUS includes its exclusive QuickFit Virtual Scale feature with the PB278Q, allowing you to preview photos and documents on-screen in their actual size prior to printing. It can be activated via a monitor hotkey, and serves as a highly useful guide to accurately view and edit photos in their native size.
  • newegg Splendid Video Intelligence Technology Driven by a precision color engine that automatically analyzes and determines the nature of your current task, Splendid Video Intelligence Technology adjusts display parameters accordingly to ensure color accuracy and image fidelity. Six preset modes (scenery, theater, sRGB, standard, and two user-customizable modes) can be quickly selected via a designated hotkey.
  • newegg Extensive Connectivity The PB278Q features a host of connectivity options that include HDMI 1.4, DisplayPort 1.2, and dual-link DVI for native WQHD, plus D-sub for full HD 1080p content transmission. Twin built-in 3W speakers provide quality audio for a completely immersive home theater experience.
  • newegg Designed with You in Mind The PB278Q offers a highly ergonomic and smart design that comes with tilt, pivot, swivel, and height adjustments to ensure an always-comfortable viewing and usage experience. Its smart cable management further promotes clutter-free spaces for work and enjoyment.

5 out of 5 eggsVery impressive monitor with great quality

Pros: I bought this to replace my old 1080p hand-me-down monitor (I know that's nothing to complain about but still). I am very satisfied with it after using it for a year. Picture is very sharp compared to what I'm used to, with very little ghosting and no visual glitches to speak of. Color reproduction is as good as I can ask for, and the 27 inch size: two thumbs up.

Now I use it as a dual monitor setup with the old one

Cons: Only two things I can think of which aren't really cons, but just things to remember: first, this thing needs a more powerful gpu compared to full HD offerings. And, this definitely dwarfs mini itx and mAtx towers...its actually bigger than my tv!

Other Thoughts: Yes, I recommend it if you have the power and room

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome and Huge

Pros: I bought two of these to migrate my home dual head setup from two 19 and 20 inch 5:4 displays. My X desktop is huge and crystal clear. Even the difference in detail between scaled 1080P content and full 2K still images is quite apparent. I was worried about dead pixels when ordering two panels of this size, but I have yet to notice any such defects over the couple of weeks. Blender is wonderful across these monitors, and I no longer find myself trying to juggle desk space between the 3d view and node editor. I have also seen no refresh lag or ghosting, although I have not tried playing high action games on the panels yet. Also, I love the large size of the panels. I wouldn't want to go any bigger on my desk, but these monitors effectively fill my field of view. Also, the color matching between the panels is great. I expected variation in the panels, but have not been able to tell a difference in a window across both screens.

Cons: none of note

Other Thoughts: Make sure you have space for these panels on your desk. They are huge

3 out of 5 eggsBought 2, both developed displayport issues

Pros: - Good image quality
- Height and tilt adjustment is great and it supports vertical orientation
- 3 year warranty

Cons: - Displayport input issues, see below
- Bright blue screen when turning off in HDMI mode
- The edge below input ports extend out, making plugging and unplugging some cables difficult.

Other Thoughts: I bought 2 of these: first one in Nov 2014, and second one in Aug 2015. I am now writing this in April 2016 and both monitors are having issues when using displayport input.

The first monitor had no problem when it arrived. I was very happy with it until a few days ago when it stopped recognizing displayport signal. The monitor still works fine using HDMI input and I've switched around the hardware to verify that the monitor is causing it, not the cable or my computer.

The second monitor had a problem from the get-go. After using it for anywhere from 30 min to a few hours, it would randomly stop receiving displayport signal. Simply turning off the monitor does not fix it and my computer thinks it's still connected, so all the stuff on my second monitor become hidden behind this blank screen. Unplugging the displayport cable or rebooting my computer fix this. Again, just like my first monitor, zero issues when using HDMI input.

I've ordered a couple of displayport to HDMI cables to hopefully get around these problems. Hopefully I don't need to RMA them since packing shipping these big and heavy monitors would be a pain.

On a more minor note, when the monitors are using HDMI input, the screen flashes bright blue before turning off (i.e. when my computer goes to sleep.) I don't know why ASUS didn't use the same black screen with "no signal" message you get when using displayport input. Quite annoying especially when the room is dim.

5 out of 5 eggsBig, beautiful, bright.

Pros: This is a great monitor. Comes with displayport, hdmi, dvi-d and vga cables, plus has a very nice stand with pivot, swivel, tilt, and height adjust.

It is a fantastic picture. Colors better than I've ever seen on any monitor before (never owned a nice one before). Vibrant, bright, and adjustable to your tastes for color temperature and such.

Great for reading, videos, games, pictures, everything. Fonts are crisp and easy to read, pictures and video are excellent (even upscaled) and games are fantastic.

Zero backlight bleed.

Good packaging

Cons: Heavy. Could be hard to find a third party stand if thats what you're in to.

2 dead pixels. Really could be a pro given the scale of this monitor and the fact that many competing panels always have more than this.

The other thing is these pixels are so tiny that you'll never notice it. I only know I have the two because I put up a white background specifically to search for them. They're both in the corner and I never see them during normal use. Not a real con at all, just something to point out.

Other Thoughts: Would definitely recommend if you want a 1440p monitor IPS that isn't absurd in price.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Choice

Pros: - 1440p is beautiful*
- Height adjustment is great, specifically coming from a cheaper monitor without any adjustments.
- Light bleed / dead pixels were not much of an issue for me. I'm not too picky though (see cons).
- The size is perfect for 1440p. It's also not too bad with 1080p (if you need to use a weaker GPU during an RMA, for example).
- Seems to have sturdy construction. Nothing about it seemed overly cheap or limited (I have not used the speakers though).

Cons: - One dead pixel on the lower-left side (only shows during full green color test, so no issue).
- A little pricey, but the price will go down (I think it's worth it even now).
- Very rarely (I think twice now?) the speakers will kick on with a hissing sound because it seems to default to 100% volume. I'm not sure if this is the monitor or some situation with my Klipsch speakers / headphones. Probably my fault.

Other Thoughts: *Although, 1080p is still nice. I don't really understand people who say they can't go back to 1080p after having 2k or 4k. I'm in the middle of an RMA for my GPU so I had to use an old back up GPU meanwhile.

Honestly, this was an impulse buy I completed back around Christmas 2015 for myself. I don't regret it. I normally beat myself up a bit after a big purchase or PC upgrade I don't really need but this is a decent investment. I'd certainly recommend 1440p and this monitor.

3 out of 5 eggs1 dead pixel, locked refresh rate, otherwise it's good

Pros: - 1440p looks great
- Height adjust is very nice
- Monitor stand feels very sturdy
- 27" is lot bigger than I thought it was

Cons: - Monitor had 1 dead pixel (more on this below)
- Can't overclock the refresh rate at all
- Big footprint in terms of desk space
- Bezel size could be nicer

Other Thoughts: After using the monitor for a month I noticed I had one dead pixel in the lower left fourth of the monitor. This one dead pixel is *so* very small that the only time I could ever notice it, is when screen is very dark (at the time I was watching a movie and there was a dark scene transition). Beyond that, I would have to actively look for the dead pixel in order to see it.

I thought to myself, "What a pain, I don't feel like packing up the entire monitor just for that" I was however curious about ASUS RMA support so I inquired about an RMA. They told me I had to have at least three dead pixels in order to RMA. Half of me thought, "Fine whatever, sending this huge thing back would be a pain anyway," and the other half was, "what a load of crock."

On a separate note I was curious about this monitors overclocking capability. It can't do it *at all.* It is hard locked by the manufacturer.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Marlon,

Hello, I would like to thank you for taking your time in writing this review. We certainly value your feedback. It is unfortunate to hear that your monitor is suffering from one dead pixel. Unfortuantely, in order to qualify for the Zero Bright Dot warranty, you need a minimum of 3 dead pixels. Sorry for the inconvenience this caused you. 5 out of 5 eggsGreat Picture

Pros: Beautiful Display. The colors and clarity are amazing
The stand does everything. Twist, turn, tilt, swivel, height adjust
No Dead Pixels/Everything was sealed

Cons: Some backlight bleed, but I guess its to be expected.

Response time/ input lag is noticeable compared to my previous monitor-After a week of everyday use it is not noticeable at all. The only game I noticed this was on was BF4

Buttons other than the power feel cheap.
1 yr update
Buttons would occasionally get stuck or press themselves making the menu randomly pop up. Since then i just leave the monitor on and it turns off after no signal.
After about 6-8 months I noticed a spec of dust or dead pixel about a cm from the top left corner. I did a dead pixel test often the first month of owning the monitor and it wasn't present. I'm not too worried about it because its in a location that I don't really notice it. I forget it's there most of the time.
Can be difficult to get the screen centered after tilting.

Other Thoughts: Coming from a Gateway FHD2400 1920x1200 3ms TN I will never go back. It took me about a week to get used to the response/input but now I don't notice it at all. (That was my biggest worry) Coming from a glossy screen it took a while to get used to semi matte finish but I still prefer glossy. The speakers are not that good but are better than what most will lead you to believe. They don't deserve to be a con or to knock off an egg.

If you're debating whether or not to step up from 1080 or 1200 to 1440 you absolutely should. The real estate and detail is amazing. The immersion puts you right in the game.
I mostly play BF4 and Arma 3 and they look absolutely stunning at 1440. Arma should be bundled it looks so good.

gskill sniper 8GB 1866
sapphire tri-x oc 290
HAF932 Blue
EVGA 750 Bronze
mushkin chronos 60
WD 2TBx2

After owning this for over a year I still love it even with its issues.
Because of the issues I will try a different brand for my next monitor purchase unless the price is right.

5 out of 5 eggsFirst Impressions: Great Monitor

Pros: I had to buy this monitor from another store (local) because my other monitor (24") died after 7 years and I could not wait for shipping. At this particular store, I was able to compare specs and pictures for a number of monitors. I liked the idea of a 144Hz panel with Freesync, but I am not a gamer, so I ruled out paying extra for those. I looked at a 4K monitor from another brand, and was sold on it, only to find it was out of stock. So, I ended up with this as a balance between size, features, and value. I love this monitor.

1. Great picture
2. Great value (paid the same price as NewEgg)
3. Speakers are reasonable
4. Height adjustable stand-- not all monitors in the same price range had that
5. Pivotable-- not that I will ever use it, but I am glad to know that it is there and the stand supports it
6. Always had good luck with Asus products (apparently not all have based on other reviews)
7. Ships with plenty of cables
8. Works at 60Hz with my A10-7800K (this computer is for non-gaming applications)

Cons: Cons:
1. Volume Adjustments: Although I have an external speaker system, I don't always want to turn that system on (sometimes just too much). Yes, I can use software setting for the volume adjustment, but embedding volume so deeply into the menus is just a pain. Dedicated volume buttons, please

Other Thoughts: Overall, I would buy this monitor again based on the positive initial impressions. I do not regret not getting a 4K, 27" monitor at this point. This monitor is clear, and I do not need to play games with font sizes to make things readable, no did I need to buy a separate graphics card (plays into the value) to drive it properly.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome picture quailty, perfect for my needs!

Pros: I've had this monitor for a bit now and I chose this monitor because for the features that it offered and It well exceeds those expectations. The resolution is great for my work or play and I have no dead pixels anywhere and the screen has a crisp picture with everything my Evga 980ti can toss at it.

Cons: I see no cons with this monitor!

Other Thoughts: I would recommend people first figure out their use or purpose before choosing and then giving a bad review.
