Concept to Creation. Precision to the Finest Detail.

A new killer equipment for digital content creation and entertainment, the ASUS PB Series PB278Q LED monitor incorporates exciting performance and features demanded by professionals and designers. A colossal 27" screen size means more viewing real estate, 2560 x 1440 WQHD packs four times the pixels of 720p, so you can see more content on the screen and accomplish tasks with less mouse roll. The LED display affords 178° wide viewing angles for better productivity. ASUS exclusive Splendid Video Intelligence Technology, QuickFit Virtual Scale, and 100% sRGB fidelity ensure reality-defining color and image accuracy, complete with rich stereo sound from twin 3W speakers. An ergonomic design allows easy adjustment of tilt, swivel, pivot, and height, enabling you to enjoy the visual brilliance in extreme comforts.

  • newegg True-to-life Visuals The PB278Q features a 16:9 aspect ratio and a LED-backlit 27” WQHD display that provides 109 pixels per inch (PPI), resulting in high quality 2560 x 1440 visuals – equaling four times the resolution of standard 720p sets. It allows users to view greater image detail and do more with an onscreen footprint larger than that of standard displays. The screen’s 109PPI density means there are 109 RGB matrices within one inch. Generally, the more pixels a display has, the more lighting (or power) those pixels require to achieve the best visuals. However, with advanced LED backlighting on the PB278Q, power and energy savings are no longer compromised, while better visuals are assured.
  • newegg Made for Work and Play The ASUS PB278Q provides an ultra-wide 178° viewing angle on both horizontal and vertical planes, thereby minimizing onscreen color shift even when viewed from extreme angles. With its WQHD display, you enjoy 77% more desktop space than a full HD screen to spread out your windows and palettes. It is also about 25% sharper than a generic 27” full HD display, delivering ultra-smooth visuals thanks to 5ms (GTG) response time. This ensures you get lag-free experiences in movies and gaming, with the latter looking more vivid, with all in-game details shown in true color. The ASUS PB278Q is undoubtedly your best choice for work and play.
  • newegg QuickFit Virtual Scale for true what you see is what you get ASUS includes its exclusive QuickFit Virtual Scale feature with the PB278Q, allowing you to preview photos and documents on-screen in their actual size prior to printing. It can be activated via a monitor hotkey, and serves as a highly useful guide to accurately view and edit photos in their native size.
  • newegg Splendid Video Intelligence Technology Driven by a precision color engine that automatically analyzes and determines the nature of your current task, Splendid Video Intelligence Technology adjusts display parameters accordingly to ensure color accuracy and image fidelity. Six preset modes (scenery, theater, sRGB, standard, and two user-customizable modes) can be quickly selected via a designated hotkey.
  • newegg Extensive Connectivity The PB278Q features a host of connectivity options that include HDMI 1.4, DisplayPort 1.2, and dual-link DVI for native WQHD, plus D-sub for full HD 1080p content transmission. Twin built-in 3W speakers provide quality audio for a completely immersive home theater experience.
  • newegg Designed with You in Mind The PB278Q offers a highly ergonomic and smart design that comes with tilt, pivot, swivel, and height adjustments to ensure an always-comfortable viewing and usage experience. Its smart cable management further promotes clutter-free spaces for work and enjoyment.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome picture quailty, perfect for my needs!

Pros: I've had this monitor for a bit now and I chose this monitor because for the features that it offered and It well exceeds those expectations. The resolution is great for my work or play and I have no dead pixels anywhere and the screen has a crisp picture with everything my Evga 980ti can toss at it.

Cons: I see no cons with this monitor!

Other Thoughts: I would recommend people first figure out their use or purpose before choosing and then giving a bad review.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Experience in a Corporate Enterprise Environment

Pros: - Beautiful screen, and accurate colors.
- No issues with using this as a secondary display (via DisplayPort) from my MacBook Pro.
- Very good screen quality. I have an iMac 27" 1440p and 5K at home, and the quality is within 80-85% of those two monitors. Given that Mac displays are at 100% (Excellent). For $500 1440p monitor this is clearly acceptable.
- Clear text
- Very good value performance ratio
- Very good quality - One year of usage, and no issues

Cons: - Wish there were a dedicated brightness controls. This is a con for most new monitors. I constantly adjust my display at least 2x per day i.e. day & night, and having to maneuver through any OSD is a pain. At least Asus isn't as bad as some, but still a dedicated button would a huge User Experience (UX) differentiation! Adjusting brightness is a cinch on most laptops and all-in-one desktops. Heck even the monitors from the 90s had them.

Other Thoughts: - Primary uses are for typical office applications, and IT related work (coding, development etc...)
- My corporation bought this, so my review will not be listed as a "verified buyer"
- Could've ordered a 27" Mac display, but opted for frugality in today's economic environment.

1 out of 5 eggsProblems abound

Pros: Beautiful and color, love working on large format documents on these screens.

Cons: Had to RMA, not one, but TWO of these when I first ordered them due to stuck/dead pixels - I ended up keeping the third one with the same problem because it was only two pixels that I could see and they weren't in the middle of the screen. Had to pay for shipping both times, and work with only one functional monitor instead of the normal two while I waited.

Fast forward to today, one of the monitors is now making a speaker static type noise, I have no idea what is causing this noise, maybe a fan or something brushing against something, no idea why this started today, I haven't moved the monitors in over 12 months. I just turned on and started making this noise.

Other Thoughts: I would buy something else, these monitors have been nothing but a headache.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsA Pure Joy

Pros: - Brilliant clarity
- Huge viewing angle

Cons: - none

Other Thoughts: Everything I've gotten from ASUS has been solid, long lasting and dependable. The 24in LCD that this display was meant to replace was also an ASUS (4 years old) and I decided to keep it as a second display. I've had this display now for a year; both it and the old one are still going strong. ASUS really seems to be producing quality products.

5 out of 5 eggsTried 1440p before, Now I am pleased

Pros: high PPI
great color/vibrancy
I like the semi-gloss anti-glare coating (prefer over glossy)
I was able use EVGA pixel Clock, an Nvidia feature, to OC this monitor to 80Hz refresh rate
I no longer need to use heavy super sampling or MSAA in my games--2 to 4 X AA is usually MORE THAN sufficient
Some games actually require zero anti aliasing!

Cons: Lower Refresh Rate , however you can OC it!

Other Thoughts: I tried the Samsung 1440p current model, the one that costs around 700, not the one that is about 1200. And it was HORRIBLE for gaming. The input lag was through the roof and was unplayable. That turned me off of 1440p and I was very disappointed because I wanted that high resolution. Months later I decided to try it again and I am very very glad I did.

I was also worried about leaving my 120hz BenQ XL 24 inch monitor, it has been amazing and I can see the difference up to 90 or so Hz, but after that I can't really tell any difference or see any less ghosting, etc. So going to a 1440p @ 60Hz concerned me. But as I said before, I was able to OC mine to 80Hz, effectively eliminating All concern.
Everything about this monitor is superior to my expensive BenQ!
I am running a EVGA GTX 780 SC/ACX and i-7 3770K OCd

2 out of 5 eggsBeware quality and shipping

Pros: Monitor video performance is high.

Cons: AC power plug doesn't stay connected.

Other Thoughts: Ordered a display and cable from Newegg. Newegg quoted one shipping date - apparently the earliest between the two. Display shows up without cable....

When display arrived we notice it doesn't always stay on. The AC power plug is faulty. Barely wiggle a cable and the display winks out. Not sure if its cable or display at this point but would avoid this product if you need your display to stay on while your using it.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Jim,

I would like to thank you for taking your time in writing this review. We certainly value your feedback. It is unfortunate to hear that your AC power plug does not stay connected and that a small wiggle makes it disconnect your screen. Sorry for the inconvenience. This is the first time I have encountered this problem. Have you tried using another AC power plug? If the problems still persist after, you can submit an RMA at ASUS offers 2 to 3 year warranty on our monitors depending on the issue. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me at and I will help you to the best of my abilities. 4 out of 5 eggsgood aside from some displayport issues

Pros: huge, bright, adjustable

Cons: Some problems with displayport--sometimes not detected on startup or after going to sleep. Sometimes this is resolved by disconnecting the DP cable momentarily, but sometimes it needs to be power cycled.

Other Thoughts: worth it.

1 out of 5 eggsLife span

Pros: Looked good

Cons: Died after 6 months, paid $80 to ship in for RMA (from east coast).

Rapid Replacement will require allowing ASUS to place a hold on your cc for the retail price until receipt. GET insurance on the package you send, there are many stories online of packages damaged in transit which nullified the RMA and/or allowed them to keep the "hold"

Other Thoughts: First time a monitor ever died in me. Yes, these things happen but still had to pay additional costs out of pocket for poor manufacturing.

Also I commonly had to power cycle the monitor when waking if I use displayport or it'll stay without a signal. HDMI/dvi were good (1x gtx980 if it matters)

Would not repurchase, please read through some of the more recent ASUS RMA experiences online.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing monitor!

Pros: My 27" Asus with 1920x1200 was already hitting about 4-5 years and it was a time to up the main monitor. 27/28" and 1080p - let me tell you, I tried... and no, it did not work at all :) ... it works if you are sitting 5ft away from it where PC monitor looses it's usability.
Anyhow, I reviewed 25" version of this 2k beauty, but felt 25" may be way too small for 2K resolution as I did not want to live with my face inside the monitor to see stuff... I was right to decide and go for 27" ... Colors, picture clarity, gaming, EVERYTHING with this monitor is amazing!

Cons: Stand rotates together with the monitor, so if you are a neat-freak and like everything to be positioned in linear order, it may bother you for the whole first 5 minutes... after that you will love this monitor!

Other Thoughts: I read fairly long review of this 27" beauty, and the guy finished it with "what are you waiting for? GET IT!!!"

That's what I did... I got it... so what are you waiting for?

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Monitor

Pros: I bought this monitor in July, 2013. It has been a performer, and I couldn't be happier with it. I us it for both work and gaming. I am a VoIP Cloud engineer that uses the real-estate of 2K, and a fairly heavy gamer. In 2014, I acquired a 2x970 GTX sli setup. I must say this monitor delivers on both fronts. No issues gaming whatsoever, and I use this on both my gaming PC and Mac Book Pro for work (I know, it is what they game me). I use the Display port for the PC and HDMI for the MAC. I don't have any issues with sleep, dead pixels, ghosting, backlight bleed, or switching inputs, as other reviewers have state. Excellent product. Was actually thinking about buying 2 more for more real-estate and gaming immersion. Recently upgraded both units to windows 10 with zero issues. I paid 559.00 for mine at the time, so it has come down a bit since then.

Cons: None....Could be buy 2 get 1 free, but we know that isn't happening. The OSD menu is a little frustrating, but they all generally are in my experience.
