Concept to Creation. Precision to the Finest Detail.

A new killer equipment for digital content creation and entertainment, the ASUS PB Series PB278Q LED monitor incorporates exciting performance and features demanded by professionals and designers. A colossal 27" screen size means more viewing real estate, 2560 x 1440 WQHD packs four times the pixels of 720p, so you can see more content on the screen and accomplish tasks with less mouse roll. The LED display affords 178° wide viewing angles for better productivity. ASUS exclusive Splendid Video Intelligence Technology, QuickFit Virtual Scale, and 100% sRGB fidelity ensure reality-defining color and image accuracy, complete with rich stereo sound from twin 3W speakers. An ergonomic design allows easy adjustment of tilt, swivel, pivot, and height, enabling you to enjoy the visual brilliance in extreme comforts.

  • newegg True-to-life Visuals The PB278Q features a 16:9 aspect ratio and a LED-backlit 27” WQHD display that provides 109 pixels per inch (PPI), resulting in high quality 2560 x 1440 visuals – equaling four times the resolution of standard 720p sets. It allows users to view greater image detail and do more with an onscreen footprint larger than that of standard displays. The screen’s 109PPI density means there are 109 RGB matrices within one inch. Generally, the more pixels a display has, the more lighting (or power) those pixels require to achieve the best visuals. However, with advanced LED backlighting on the PB278Q, power and energy savings are no longer compromised, while better visuals are assured.
  • newegg Made for Work and Play The ASUS PB278Q provides an ultra-wide 178° viewing angle on both horizontal and vertical planes, thereby minimizing onscreen color shift even when viewed from extreme angles. With its WQHD display, you enjoy 77% more desktop space than a full HD screen to spread out your windows and palettes. It is also about 25% sharper than a generic 27” full HD display, delivering ultra-smooth visuals thanks to 5ms (GTG) response time. This ensures you get lag-free experiences in movies and gaming, with the latter looking more vivid, with all in-game details shown in true color. The ASUS PB278Q is undoubtedly your best choice for work and play.
  • newegg QuickFit Virtual Scale for true what you see is what you get ASUS includes its exclusive QuickFit Virtual Scale feature with the PB278Q, allowing you to preview photos and documents on-screen in their actual size prior to printing. It can be activated via a monitor hotkey, and serves as a highly useful guide to accurately view and edit photos in their native size.
  • newegg Splendid Video Intelligence Technology Driven by a precision color engine that automatically analyzes and determines the nature of your current task, Splendid Video Intelligence Technology adjusts display parameters accordingly to ensure color accuracy and image fidelity. Six preset modes (scenery, theater, sRGB, standard, and two user-customizable modes) can be quickly selected via a designated hotkey.
  • newegg Extensive Connectivity The PB278Q features a host of connectivity options that include HDMI 1.4, DisplayPort 1.2, and dual-link DVI for native WQHD, plus D-sub for full HD 1080p content transmission. Twin built-in 3W speakers provide quality audio for a completely immersive home theater experience.
  • newegg Designed with You in Mind The PB278Q offers a highly ergonomic and smart design that comes with tilt, pivot, swivel, and height adjustments to ensure an always-comfortable viewing and usage experience. Its smart cable management further promotes clutter-free spaces for work and enjoyment.

5 out of 5 eggsfits the bill

Pros: this is a well put together unit. I didn't notice any problems with the screen or pixels. The audio is not really loud but good enough to watch a movie on. I just program and watch movies on it, and I'm not going to bother with purchasing speakers.
The menu for changing settings is less annoying that the expensive dell 30" I have at work.

Cons: It would be convenient if they included a usb hub.

5 out of 5 eggsDon't be out done by an Phone

Pros: Colors pop very nicely in games. Text on things like webpages don't have that grainy look. And pictures look like post cards.

Comes with a crazy 5 year warranty

No dead Pixels

Cons: You have to tune it for optimization to the get the most out of it.

Other Thoughts: If your still computing at 1080p think about this. Chances are, your smart phone has a higher resolution than your computer monitor.

If your concerned about how 60 is going to effect your gaming, don't. I've had 4 different 120hz monitors. The PB 278Q is a no brainer.

4 out of 5 eggsI've got mine

Pros: Video performance appears to be as promised.
Very happy with that.

Cons: Do not count on the "swivel". That is a joke. The swivel is "pick up the monitor base and turn it". There is a small disk with an arrow on the bottom of the base that does turn. It does not support the base or monitor, apparently to show the user what direction front it.

Substandard packaging. Package clearly had been opened, monitor likely assembled (based on state of component packaging) and then reassemble by untrained packer. Mostly an annoyance but I was expecting a new product, not a used or refurbished one. It appeared to be missing a user manual, packing list and who knows what else. As it had everything I needed, it was not a deal breaker but made the purchase suspect.

Other Thoughts: Very unhappy with the quality of the purchase; but happy with the monitor which will be mounted on an arm. Not willing to undergo the drama of a return although it is very tempting as I am so annoyed.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat picture with a lot of dead pixels

Pros: Great picture. Bright and vibrant colours. The resolution is excellent.

Cons: Loads of dead pixels; I'm talking 20+ dead pixels, mostly near the bottom of the screen. In addition the bottom left corner is far stronger backlighting. Very noticeable on a dark screen.

Other Thoughts: I love how the monitor looks, but with the poor quality control I'll not be buying this again.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsNo dead pixels after 3 months, works great

Pros: Sharp image, tons of brightness (I had to dial it back significantly for my eyes), good contrast ratio and trueness to color. Most importantly, no dead pixels after 3 months.

Cons: The stand is a little shakey, but it orients in all sorts of directions (even 90 degrees) so I'll forgive that.

5 out of 5 eggsI couldn't be much happier

Pros: This monitor is quite the step-up from my VH238. 27" at a pixel density of 11834 PPI² with a decent set of built in speakers for when I take off my headphones is nice. 2560x1440 is beautiful to see, doesn't affect icon size overly much, and gets a number of my games up to that next level that I was wanting. A feature that I might make use of at a later date when I want to try to get better at counter strike is the built-in game overlay. I played with the cross hairs and, while not being too intrusive, looked pretty good in the center of the screen. The under the screen buttons can't be seen from in front of the screen; instead, pressing any of them but the power button will bring up an onscreen display telling you where the buttons are and what they do in the current menu. The power button has a very satisfying click when it is pressed in. I've already considered a wall-mount, and it's ready when I am. I have combed over every square inch of this screen and not found one dead pixel or evidence of back-light bleeding.

Cons: My 2x SLI EVGA 670 SC 4GB barely keep up for some of my games on this screen at 1440p. Not a con really, but something I will be remedying in a few days (Another review will be written at that time).

Other Thoughts: I haven't been this impressed with a monitor in a while. I feel like I can safely say that this will be my monitor until I decide to upgrade to 4k. At that point, I hope to have GPU's that can handle it.

5 out of 5 eggsWonderful.

Pros: This is a gorgeous monitor. Its everything I had hoped for in both color and response. Playing Borderlands 2 in 1440 is awesome!

Funny side note, this monitor replaced an 8 year old 22" 1600x900 monitor. Mind blowing difference.

Cons: Minor annoyances.
- cable area is in-set and bottom lip makes putting in the DP a little annoying.
- button scheme seems weird to me (not intuitive)

Other Thoughts: Completely worth the price. I'll likely be buying a second.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat if it works

Pros: -Really good pitcure
-Higher resoulution

Cons: -I had to RMA this monitor multiple times due to dead pixels right out of the box. One of them even had finger prints on the inside of the glass. For this price I couldn't stand dead pixels. The fourth one that I received has no dead pixels and makes me glad for sticking with this monitor. I image is great and the higher resolution gives you more screen real estate.

Other Thoughts: -I really like this monitor, I'm just disappointed of what I had to go through to get one that was good. ASUS quality control must be going down hill. The pixels on this screen are so small that I think allot of people just aren't noticing them unless they are clustered up.

4 out of 5 eggsGood for content creation, less so for dark scenes

Pros: -Color looks good out of the box. I don't have calibration hardware, so I can't comment on accuracy beyond what I see, but it seems well balanced compared to my other monitors. No dead or stuck pixels.

-Nice middle ground between high-end 1440p panels (costing nearly twice as much) and barebones Korean models.

-Stand feels solid and is adjustable beyond what I need.

-Dat resolution.

-Despite my complaints and issues noted below, overall I'm pleased with the value I got in this monitor.

Cons: -Bright spots/light bleed visible in lower-left corner and dispersed in other places depending on view angle. Very noticeable and even distracting when watching a movie or playing a game with dark scenes or high contrast.

-Vertical viewing angle is comparable to the Asus 24" TN-type panel I have right next to it: instead of colors losing saturation so much, the screen seems to lose a bit of contrast, giving it a grayish washed-out look. This may be less of an issue if you don't... move very much? Again, not very noticeable when viewing bright colors, so may be negligible depending on your needs.

Viewing the screen from a horizontal angle results in mostly the same issue, just less extreme.

Other Thoughts: -Decided on this model (instead of a 1080p 120hz) to increase my workspace when doing dev stuff. While not as smooth as I'm sure the 120hz would look, most games look great in higher res despite the light bleed/contrast issue noted above.

-Had some weird driver-related issues running through displayport, but switching to the provided DVI-D cable resolved it. May be a problem for those that need to use displayport, but I didn't bother to narrow down a direct solution for it. Likely an issue with my hardware setup and not with the monitor itself.

5 out of 5 eggsVery good Monitor

Pros: The screen is large enough for multi-window browsing. The monitor is heavy and stable, very high quality manufactured. Different than other monitors, this one equip with connection wires, VGA,DVI, Display2Display, that is very helpful. The monitor works well with my macbook pro. No much difference with similar Dell one, but Dell is more expensive.

Cons: This is not Asus fault, it is new egg.com's fault. When I received this monitor, the package, the seal tape is open. I saw some fingerprint on the edge of the screen. I checked the screen roughly. The reseller at least use the plastic wrap to protect the package somehow, not barely ship it just with original monitor box. I do not think that box is designed for shipping individually, it is not hard and strong sealed enough to hold such a big and heavy easy-to-broken screen.

Other Thoughts: Newegg should protect the package more than ship it barely with original box.
