Concept to Creation. Precision to the Finest Detail.

A new killer equipment for digital content creation and entertainment, the ASUS PB Series PB278Q LED monitor incorporates exciting performance and features demanded by professionals and designers. A colossal 27" screen size means more viewing real estate, 2560 x 1440 WQHD packs four times the pixels of 720p, so you can see more content on the screen and accomplish tasks with less mouse roll. The LED display affords 178° wide viewing angles for better productivity. ASUS exclusive Splendid Video Intelligence Technology, QuickFit Virtual Scale, and 100% sRGB fidelity ensure reality-defining color and image accuracy, complete with rich stereo sound from twin 3W speakers. An ergonomic design allows easy adjustment of tilt, swivel, pivot, and height, enabling you to enjoy the visual brilliance in extreme comforts.

  • newegg True-to-life Visuals The PB278Q features a 16:9 aspect ratio and a LED-backlit 27” WQHD display that provides 109 pixels per inch (PPI), resulting in high quality 2560 x 1440 visuals – equaling four times the resolution of standard 720p sets. It allows users to view greater image detail and do more with an onscreen footprint larger than that of standard displays. The screen’s 109PPI density means there are 109 RGB matrices within one inch. Generally, the more pixels a display has, the more lighting (or power) those pixels require to achieve the best visuals. However, with advanced LED backlighting on the PB278Q, power and energy savings are no longer compromised, while better visuals are assured.
  • newegg Made for Work and Play The ASUS PB278Q provides an ultra-wide 178° viewing angle on both horizontal and vertical planes, thereby minimizing onscreen color shift even when viewed from extreme angles. With its WQHD display, you enjoy 77% more desktop space than a full HD screen to spread out your windows and palettes. It is also about 25% sharper than a generic 27” full HD display, delivering ultra-smooth visuals thanks to 5ms (GTG) response time. This ensures you get lag-free experiences in movies and gaming, with the latter looking more vivid, with all in-game details shown in true color. The ASUS PB278Q is undoubtedly your best choice for work and play.
  • newegg QuickFit Virtual Scale for true what you see is what you get ASUS includes its exclusive QuickFit Virtual Scale feature with the PB278Q, allowing you to preview photos and documents on-screen in their actual size prior to printing. It can be activated via a monitor hotkey, and serves as a highly useful guide to accurately view and edit photos in their native size.
  • newegg Splendid Video Intelligence Technology Driven by a precision color engine that automatically analyzes and determines the nature of your current task, Splendid Video Intelligence Technology adjusts display parameters accordingly to ensure color accuracy and image fidelity. Six preset modes (scenery, theater, sRGB, standard, and two user-customizable modes) can be quickly selected via a designated hotkey.
  • newegg Extensive Connectivity The PB278Q features a host of connectivity options that include HDMI 1.4, DisplayPort 1.2, and dual-link DVI for native WQHD, plus D-sub for full HD 1080p content transmission. Twin built-in 3W speakers provide quality audio for a completely immersive home theater experience.
  • newegg Designed with You in Mind The PB278Q offers a highly ergonomic and smart design that comes with tilt, pivot, swivel, and height adjustments to ensure an always-comfortable viewing and usage experience. Its smart cable management further promotes clutter-free spaces for work and enjoyment.

1 out of 5 eggs1st one died within the first month.

Pros: It was great while running. met all the expectations needed running at WQHD

Cons: Died within a month. I am starting the RMA process now.

Other Thoughts: This is the first asus that wasnt a workhorse. Ive been so happy with past ASUS products, I hope this new problem isnt a reflection upon their company currently and into the future.

5 out of 5 eggsWorld of Warcraft

Pros: Frame rates and ghosting are not an issue if you play World of Warcraft. The extra resolution gives you playing space for raiding that you can only dream of. With a gtx660 the frames are always over 100.

Cons: Price

5 out of 5 eggsColor and Quality of a new level

Pros: I have always owned TN panels or some version of TN quality. This is my first PLS panel. I have 5 other different panels. The other panels all look like they have muted colors compared to this PLS monitor. It difference is shocking. The other monitors are not as crisp and smooth as this monitor. The ultra HD is a whole new level compared to HD is clarity and picture. After seeing the difference in PLS vs TN it will be very hard to go back to TN. My asus g750 has a brand new top of the line TN panel and it is no where near the quality of the PLS.

Cons: Price.
If you have windows 7 you will want to upgrade to 8.1 or soon to 10.
The power plug and display port were very hard to get in. It was not a matter of space. The fit was very tight in the actual plugs. I was worried I would break something trying to get the plugs in.

Other Thoughts: This monitor twists and turns in every direction you can think of. It can be raised very high or lowered very low. This is the most versatile monitor i have ever seen.

2 out of 5 eggsNice, but had to replace.

Pros: This is my first 1440p monitor and it really makes for a great, crisp image. Had no issues with color or back light bleeding at all. Base seems to be sturdy. I like that people have been able to overclock the refresh rate of this monitor, but I don't know if I will attempt to do that. The price is very reasonable as well.

Cons: The only con for me, and it's a big one, is the fact that mine arrived with dead pixels right near the center of the screen. There's a handful of them, almost in a cluster. I'd be okay with a couple of dead or stuck pixels toward the edges, but having a bunch right in your field of view is unacceptable and very disappointing.

I now have to ship the item back to newegg for a replacement, which is costing me $43. That is absurd!

Other Thoughts: It would be nice if newegg would pick up the tab for shipping, or at least find a way to lower the cost. $43 to send a defective item back for replacement really makes you question whether or not it's even worth it. Not a great feeling and my first negative experience with newegg.

Manufacturer Response:

Deaqr Valued Customer,

I do apologize that your new ASUS LCD developed a cluster of dead pixels. I am glad to see that you are taking care of this. I will be sure to forward your review to our quality assurance team, so they can further document this information. I would feel very disappointed as well if I were in your shoes. If you ever have any questions for ASUS regarding your product, feel free to email me at cl-jolene@asus.com with case number N141162884.

Thank you for being a loyal ASUS customer!
Best regards,
Jolene

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing upgrade!

Pros: The color, contrast, and brightness of this screen is phenomenal! Unlike 4K monitors, the scaling at 1440p is at about the limit that I like. Smaller icons, more desktop space, but your not lost in the sheer number of pixels.

Cons: The monitor audio quality is poor, just like integrated TV sound but most likely if you are even a mild enthusiast you have your own component audio anyways.

Other Thoughts: I just got Assassin's Creed Unity, and so far in testing it's amazing. Now only if I had an SLI setup and could get those framerates up. This is a perfect all around good monitor!

I am using a PNY GTX 780 enthusiast edition GPU.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat while it lasted

Pros: Very good color accuracy and uniformity, crazy sharp, not too slow

Cons: Internal electrical issues within a week of purchase, involving loud popping noises from the rear of the monitor, accompanied by a snow pattern on screen. Doesn't exactly instill confidence.

Other Thoughts: If I hadn't had QC issues, I would have been very happy with the product, but I ended up moving onto something else.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

Pros: The thing works - no dead pixels, works fine.

Cons: I had to assemble the base. But then they told me that, so...not really a con.

Other Thoughts: So far so good. I'll let you know if it implodes or something.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat value for the money IMO

Pros: 1440p shines with this monitor. While there are more pricy high end options for a monitor, this is a consumer's solution of balance between price and performance. Running all my current titles maxed out with my MSI 980.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I bought mine on sale for less thank 500. I would have loved to get it for even cheaper but as far as reliability goes, this one seems like it will last me a long time. Bezels are not too large, this would make for a great multimonior setup.

5 out of 5 eggsAsus PB Series PB278Q

Pros: Easy Setup, Outstanding Picture, Solid Stand

Cons: Except for the cheesy "lazy susan" rotating mechanism, this display "rocks". Read a lot of negative reviews and from my day old experience have nothing but raves for this display. Didn't expect anything less from Asus.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat monitor, no complaints

Pros: This monitor is great. The colors and sharpness are awesome and the higher resolution, especially on a monitor this huge, amazed me at how much screen real-estate I have to work with. I can actually play EVE Online and fully display all my overview information without spread-sheets taking 3/4 of my screen, and that's pretty good.

I don't normally play twitch games where the refresh rate comes into play that heavily, but I did load up some Borderlands and everything seemed just fine, certainly as good as my old monitor that was much smaller. If that kind of thing is important to you this monitor is capable of being overclocked to 75-80+ hz quite easily, so the resolution/display rate tradeoff isn't really that bad (I have not done this but may consider it in the future for bragging rights).

The "gaming" features are also a nice little addition. letting you display a crosshair or timer on screen that is not actually rendered in your computer. It can also display an on screen ruler/grid to let you know how big something would be if you printed it. I probably won't be using them too much but again they are nice to have just in case.

Cons: The only thing I can think of is that the power cable is hard to plug in since the plastic bezel design makes it kind of difficult to get at the plug on the monitor side, but I'm not complaining too much about that since you only ever need to put the power cable in once.

Other than that it made me realize the photo I am using for my desktop background is actually blurry and pretty small even though it completely filled my previous monitor and looked fine, but that's not really a "con".

Other Thoughts: I read other reviews about this monitor having poor quality control, with dead pixels or fingerprints behind the front panel, so I was kind of nervous when I first bought it, but I guess I won the monitor lottery because mine has no dead pixels or fingerprints and it looks amazing. Did a little bit of fiddling with the colors in the (very expansive) menu but to be honest it was more to aquatint me with the menu than because it was actually needed.

I bought this monitor to use with the first gaming PC I've ever built (never been much of a techie, hence my lower tech knowledge) because it seemed like the king of the mid-range price point set and it looks like it has been for years. If you want the best of the best there are better monitors out there, but from a "price vs features vs applications that actually use those features" standpoint this monitor wins out.
