5 out of 5 eggsTriple 27s!!

Pros: These are great monitors (I say "these", as I just bought my 3rd for triple 27" monitors). They're nice looking, have a fantastic picture and a fast response time - and the price isn't bad, either (and in 1 1/2 years, the price hasn't dropped much, either!). I had one for just over a year, decided I wanted to run dual monitors then realized you can't do Eyefinity with 2 monitors for gaming (or maybe you can and I wasn't doing it right - but it gave me a good reason to buy a 3rd!) I have 3 of these babies connected via DisplayPort cables to a DP 1.2 MSP Hub, connected to 2 Crossfired XFX R9-270x graphic cards. I've got a wide 75" of monitors, looks awesome.

Cons: The only con I have is the bezels are a bit wide. I have a 2" gap between each actual monitor from a 1" wide bezel on all sides of the monitor. When I was using only one monitor, I had it hanging from a VESA bracket so never used the stand. A wall mount for 3 27" monitors is around $350 so I'm using the stands. They aren't too obtrusive but do stick out 3.5" in front of each display (they're round). It doesn't really look bad but it would be nice if they were height adjustable as well.

Other Thoughts: The actual reason I bought the 2nd monitor was that I was having issues with the first one - videos in full screen would brighten/darken, it just had some quirks. With a 3 year warranty, I bought the 2nd - so I would end up with 2 still - but I'd have the box from the new one to ship back the first for replacement. Before the 2nd arrived, I had tried plugging the HDMI cable into the 2nd monitor HDMI port, swapped the cable, made no difference. Now that I'm using DisplayPort cables, I'm having no issues at all - and even if I do, I still have another 1 1/2 years for replacement.

It's also great that ASUS has kept the same monitor - same exact one, same model number - for all this time for those of us OCD people who need things to match. Buying 3 monitors at one time can be a big stretch so having one for not quite 1 1/2 years, then a second 1 1/2 months ago, and now a 3rd a few days ago is much easier to swallow.

3 out of 5 eggsA little disappointed

Pros: 27 inch Widescreen. I love the extra space on the desktop.

Cons: Colors are not very vibrant, at least not using the HDMI connector. Setting up the monitor to have a good image quality with the HDMI connection took nearly 6 hours of reading forums and blogs to resolve the completely whited out screen I got right out of the box.

If I use the VGA connector, the monitor looked ok right out of the box. In the end, I had to download a special Monitor profile and tweak the Gamma settings a little lower to get a good quality image on the screen through the HDMI connector.

Since the Resolution of this monitor is 1920 x 1080, the images on the 27 inch screen appear a little magnified and certainly not as crisp as the 24 inch Widescreen Monitor this one is supposed to replace.

It pains me to do this but I've decided to make this monitor my secondary monitor and have kept my 24 inch Widescreen as my main monitor.

Overall, I think this monitor is average in quality and performance. It definitely doesn't live up to the hype I read through many of the product reviews.

5 out of 5 eggsVery impressed!

Pros: Very nice monitor. HUGE display compared to my old 21" monitor. Very fast refresh rate, easy to see (I have eye problems due to a health issue that popped up a year ago, and have trouble seeing things due to needing the monitor at least 3 ft away to focus). This is a huge (pun intended) improvement.

Granted, I haven't had it long, so I can't speak to long term construction with it. But initial impressions are very positive.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Make sure your work space is perfectly level. The monitor comes with an up/down tilt, but unlike my last monitor, it doesn't have a rotational ring for the screen itself on the base mount. This means that my work surface (which is slightly off level) makes the monitor screen tilt at a 3 degree angle. I've fixed it by jamming something under the base on one side. Not worth a con, but something to note.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Got it the next day I ordered my build. Came out nice and goes while with my 360 and computer. Haven't had any problems with it nor dead pixels. Settings are nice to change if need be.

Cons: none

2 out of 5 eggsNice picture. Bad Audio Pass-through.

Pros: I got the monitor as an upgrade from another Asus because I wanted a larger screen and because the other one had developed a dead pixel. To these ends, the new one works well.

Cons: I connect my computer and PlayStation to my monitor via HDMI, and I have a stereo cable running from the monitor's headphone output to my speaker system. With the previous monitor, this was no problem, but with this one, the audio sounds VERY tinny and has lost a LOT of depth in its lows (bass). I'm really not sure yet if I'll keep this or not. It sounds pretty awful.

Other Thoughts: If you don't have any need of the audio output, this should work fine.

5 out of 5 eggsNice monitor

Pros: I needed a bigger monitor for writing papers, and also playing games in my off time. This one has good contrast between B&W for working on papers. The color looks bright and the response time is low so I have no ghosting in my games. Love this monitor!

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic Monitor

Pros: First off, this monitor is definitely worth the buy if you are looking for a cheap, but fun set-up for your computer. Now, I chose to run 3 of these screens for 5760x1080p gaming, and networking(school). Even just one screen, they are pretty decent for the price.

I've played at 120hz, and I've gone to 60hz. It's slower, however with the fast response time and 76hz. It feels almost no different.

Another thing I like about this screen is the flexibility to move down or up in case of a desk size.

Also, the color quality is pretty decent.

Cons: I wish the frame was not as thick as it is. I'd like to see it more slim. Since I do run 3 of these, I'd like to have the screens touch as close as possible.

Height adjustment would be nice. Since I also run a 4th screen on top. I had to re drill my wall mount because the screen was off by a few centimeters. Raising it would have saved me hassle. (worth it though).

Other Thoughts: If you are looking for a cheap gaming monitor, monitor in general, or a cheap 3 screen set-up. This is actually a good buy. If you are an overkill gamer. Get something bigger and fast as possible.

1 out of 5 eggsASUS VS278Q

Pros: Monitor turns on, has easy to access buttons.

Cons: The image quality is not what I expected from an Asus product. Having adjusted the color settings for hours (splendid, bright/contrast, color temp, saturation, etc.), there is no setting which allows the screen to not be washed out. Moving my head 1 inch in any direction, I can see parts of the screen fade. The poor image quality and counter-intuitive menu interface in this model will keep me away from Asus monitors for a while.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ChrisB,

I am sorry to read about the dissatisfaction's you have for your ASUS LCD monitor purchase. Have you tried to reset the monitor back to factory settings? Or tried calibrating your graphics card settings? I know in your review you mentioned that you one changed the LCD settings. If you feel that this may be a hardware/ software issue and would like to know more information regarding ASUS's RMA process, please feel free to email me at cl-jolene@asus.com with reference case number N150501675.

Thank you for being a Loyal ASUS customer!

Best regards,
Jolene

5 out of 5 eggsNiiiiceeeeeeeee

Pros: Its beautiful to look at. When im browsing Facebook with lighting fast speed my old monitor would fail under the stress of my Facebook posts. Now I can click all those game invites without any screen tearing. I also drink lots of mountain dew with this monitor because it enhances the experience. No for real tho, this is probably the best monitor for the price. A year ago I paid 300ish for it. But it has been totally worth it. No dead pixes, no nothing. I have ONLY bought asus monitors and I have yet to be disappointed. I am not a hardcore gamer or anything but I play TONS of SKYRIM and this monitor makes the landscape and water and everything look beautiful.

Cons: Its not drool proof.

Other Thoughts: Great monitor. The best in its price range.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat...At first

Pros: Sharp image, bright, excellent contrast

Cons: None...for nearly a year, then the contrast started to fade. Over the past couple of weeks, the contrast has gotten pretty bad. It's now like looking through a fog

Other Thoughts: If the contrast haden't failed, I'd consider 5 eggs. The 4 was because of weak audio, and I really didn't find that objectional after a few weeks.
