5 out of 5 eggsAwesome display

Pros: Has an amazing picture with some minor tweaking of the default settings. Sound is actually surprisingly decent for a flat screen.

Cons: None at the moment.

Other Thoughts: Using this on a windows 10 machine with 2 older monitors as well. Have had no issues at all.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome All Around!

Pros: This is an amazing monitor! Before buying, I read a lot of reviews about it being "washed out," having "bad black levels," and "bad color," but I thought I'd roll the dice to see for myself (generally these "issues" are due to users not knowing how to properly calibrate a display or adjust settings correctly, not in the display itself). In this case, my assumption paid off.

When I first turned the monitor on, it indeed did display the "issues" mentioned above, but within about five minutes of simple adjustments on the standard onscreen menu, I was able dial it in and make it display great color and black levels, and not appear washed out. Please remember, that when purchasing a new display, many times they are optimized for in store displays to make them stand out when they are next to competing displays... this generally means the settings will be completely different from what they need to look like for actual use (AKA brightness is way too high, colors are off to make it appear more "appealing," and contrast is way off from what it should be).

The fact that this monitor has 1ms response and three different types of video inputs (2x HDMI, 1x DisplayPort, and 1x VGA) were other huge pluses to me. Someone had commented about why a VGA port was included, well, for people who still service or use devices (not just computers) that use this interface (and there are many of them), it is a great feature to have, and for me, it was a major selling point.

I also read negative reviews about the stand. Yes, the monitor wobbles a little when you bump the table, not a big deal, the thing is huge meaning that should be expected. The stand however is solid and heavy, and in no way makes it seem like the monitor would tip over.

Cons: Nothing!

Other Thoughts: For people commenting about this display being "washed out," having "bad black levels," and "bad color," please take some time to adjust the settings to what you want before buying a bad review... this monitor has plenty of parameters useful for calibrating it correctly which adds more value to it. This is a good practice for any monitor or TV you buy, you will find that these same "issues" are common complaints for many display products, but it is not the product, it is the users lack of knowing how to set it up properly.

I would highly recommend this product. Great quality and great price as I would expect from ASUS!

2 out of 5 eggsWINDOWS 10 USERS DON’T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE, AVOID BUYING THIS MONITOR FOR NOW.

Pros: Hello,
Here is my first review of my new screen ASUS VS278Q P-designed for gaming. Fast delivery by Newegg and the price paid for a 27 inch screen of this class will be the only positive points I'll give you about this review.

Cons: If your goal is to actually use the full potential of this screen in Windows 10, then go see elsewhere because it will obviously not the case. No driver available and since the release of Windows 10. Some will tend to say it is not serious just use the Windows plug & play drivers but unfortunately there’s a big problem with that. Since the Plug & play drivers is not in the list to enable G-SYNC option, it won’t show it and you won’t be able to use it.
Another frustration, you will agree with me as is the cable package supplied with the monitor. Is it normal that in 2015 or 2016, Asus still includes a VGA cable in the box? Would not it be better value provide a Digital Port cable, as the main function of this monitor is used only in conjunction with this cable? For me it's been over 10 years I haven’t used any VGA cable for my own PC monitor.
Finally, despite ASUS designs good product, I arrive at the same point for why i distanced myself from them in 2008 relate about drivers problems and unable to make my stuff work easily without taking so much time on the web trying to make it work properly.
Here’s the only answer I got from ASUS help department and it worth a 0 on my scale of service.

Thank you for contacting ASUS.

Thank you for choosing ASUS.

Other Thoughts: At this moment i'm waiting for a solution since i cannot roll back to windows 7 to be able to use this monitor. I really hope ASUS will fix this very quick so i will be able to do a real review of the product and capability instead of getting stuck with a normal 27 inch display monitor.

In my opinion, ASUS need definately to work better for their drivers since it's the same recurring problem on all the ASUS Stuff i bought since year 2000. So it's not like a new problem.

Be kind, english is not my native tongue so i tried to translate it from french has the best has i can.

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice for the price

Pros: - When upgrading from an 8 year old 22" this monitor seems massive.
- 1ms response time is nice. Compared to the 8ms response time I'm used to, a 1080p movie looks amazing. Fast paced scenes with camera panning look smoother.
- Right out of the box the colors are very accurate. I was expecting (based on many reviews I've read) to have to spend a lot of time calibrating it. After trying some calibration guides online I barely had to change any settings. I did turn the brightness down a bit.
- 76hz refresh rate is good since I couldn't afford a 144hz monitor this size. People say refresh rate doesn't matter too much but I think those people just don't have sharp eyes. It means you can push your frame rate up above 60fps without screen tearing.
- Contrast is very good. Text and lines that are supposed to look hard are very hard and crisp.
- It weighs as much as the 8 year old 22" that it replaced.
- I haven't had any trouble with Asus products in the past, so I like Asus.

Cons: - Stand is a bit wobbly. If you have a wobbly desk the monitor is going to jiggle a bit. The monitor is very light though, so I don't see any damage possible. This is less a con and more of a nit picking.
- Out of the box settings are way too bright. Wasted 10 seconds on my time turning it down. Ok that's not a real con. I'm just copying what many other reviewers have said.

Other Thoughts: I wanted to upgrade to a 144hz monitor, but it wasn't in my budget. After looking at the stats on my old monitor (8ms response, 60hz, 500:1 contrast) I figured this monitor would be a massive improvement. I was right. I don't have buyers remorse. I don't wish I waited 3 months till I could fit a $600 monitor in my budget. All the reviews I watched and read about this monitor were coming from people that compare top of the line technology. All the things they pointed out as faults seem a bit far fetched when I look at it myself. If you're looking to upgrade from a monitor that has quite a few years on it, then I think you'll be as impressed with this one as I am.

3 out of 5 eggsDecent but not worth buying

Pros: its great for gaming 1 ms really reduces my screen tearing issues i had with other monitors and for the price a 28 inch monitor

Cons: i am not very impressed with monitor i have tried every thing the viewing angles at the edges are always dark or white washed take your pick no matter what setting you are in would not recommend

Other Thoughts: this monitor would be great if you had a custom mounting system where you can hang directly above your head other wise current mounting when you stair right into it you get dark edges

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Dustin,

Thank you for your time on posting this review, we are sorry to hear your experience with the ASUS monitor. Please allow me to assist you.

Have you tried using the monitors features like the preset modes or calibrate the monitors settings to try to fix the issue. The monitor has a viewing angle of 170°(H)/160°(V). Please try also using different cables or use the monitor to a different computer (if available) for comparison.

4 out of 5 eggsGood monitor.

Pros: Big. Menu buttons actually better than most monitors.

Cons: I had to do an initial toning down of the gamma and other things. It was too bright. Also, even though it has a DisplayPort on it and is what I am using for my video card, it didn't come with that cable.

Other Thoughts: It's a good monitor. I can't complain, and of course Newegg shipping is usually great!

3 out of 5 eggsGood as a monitor. Bad for handling audio.

Pros: Very nice picture, HDMI inputs.

Cons: Abysmal audio out via the headphone jack. Sound became hollow, lacking all depth... the lows are nearly completely lost. Very tinny and grating. Quite a disappointment since this feature (the stereo jack) was one of the main reasons I chose this monitor.

Other Thoughts: I got around the sound problem by using an HDMI switch with an audio split. I don't use the monitor's sound system at all.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Alexander,

I want to thank you for posting this review and we are sorry to hear your experience with the monitor. On behalf of ASUS we apologize for any inconvenience this issue has caused you. Please allow me to assist you, please try to use diffent cable or have you tried using the monitor to a different device or computer to check if the sound quality is the same. 5 out of 5 eggsTriple 27s!!

Pros: These are great monitors (I say "these", as I just bought my 3rd for triple 27" monitors). They're nice looking, have a fantastic picture and a fast response time - and the price isn't bad, either (and in 1 1/2 years, the price hasn't dropped much, either!). I had one for just over a year, decided I wanted to run dual monitors then realized you can't do Eyefinity with 2 monitors for gaming (or maybe you can and I wasn't doing it right - but it gave me a good reason to buy a 3rd!) I have 3 of these babies connected via DisplayPort cables to a DP 1.2 MSP Hub, connected to 2 Crossfired XFX R9-270x graphic cards. I've got a wide 75" of monitors, looks awesome.

Cons: The only con I have is the bezels are a bit wide. I have a 2" gap between each actual monitor from a 1" wide bezel on all sides of the monitor. When I was using only one monitor, I had it hanging from a VESA bracket so never used the stand. A wall mount for 3 27" monitors is around $350 so I'm using the stands. They aren't too obtrusive but do stick out 3.5" in front of each display (they're round). It doesn't really look bad but it would be nice if they were height adjustable as well.

Other Thoughts: The actual reason I bought the 2nd monitor was that I was having issues with the first one - videos in full screen would brighten/darken, it just had some quirks. With a 3 year warranty, I bought the 2nd - so I would end up with 2 still - but I'd have the box from the new one to ship back the first for replacement. Before the 2nd arrived, I had tried plugging the HDMI cable into the 2nd monitor HDMI port, swapped the cable, made no difference. Now that I'm using DisplayPort cables, I'm having no issues at all - and even if I do, I still have another 1 1/2 years for replacement.

It's also great that ASUS has kept the same monitor - same exact one, same model number - for all this time for those of us OCD people who need things to match. Buying 3 monitors at one time can be a big stretch so having one for not quite 1 1/2 years, then a second 1 1/2 months ago, and now a 3rd a few days ago is much easier to swallow.

3 out of 5 eggsA little disappointed

Pros: 27 inch Widescreen. I love the extra space on the desktop.

Cons: Colors are not very vibrant, at least not using the HDMI connector. Setting up the monitor to have a good image quality with the HDMI connection took nearly 6 hours of reading forums and blogs to resolve the completely whited out screen I got right out of the box.

If I use the VGA connector, the monitor looked ok right out of the box. In the end, I had to download a special Monitor profile and tweak the Gamma settings a little lower to get a good quality image on the screen through the HDMI connector.

Since the Resolution of this monitor is 1920 x 1080, the images on the 27 inch screen appear a little magnified and certainly not as crisp as the 24 inch Widescreen Monitor this one is supposed to replace.

It pains me to do this but I've decided to make this monitor my secondary monitor and have kept my 24 inch Widescreen as my main monitor.

Overall, I think this monitor is average in quality and performance. It definitely doesn't live up to the hype I read through many of the product reviews.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Stephen,

5 out of 5 eggsVery impressed!

Pros: Very nice monitor. HUGE display compared to my old 21" monitor. Very fast refresh rate, easy to see (I have eye problems due to a health issue that popped up a year ago, and have trouble seeing things due to needing the monitor at least 3 ft away to focus). This is a huge (pun intended) improvement.

Granted, I haven't had it long, so I can't speak to long term construction with it. But initial impressions are very positive.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Make sure your work space is perfectly level. The monitor comes with an up/down tilt, but unlike my last monitor, it doesn't have a rotational ring for the screen itself on the base mount. This means that my work surface (which is slightly off level) makes the monitor screen tilt at a 3 degree angle. I've fixed it by jamming something under the base on one side. Not worth a con, but something to note.
