5 out of 5 eggsvery consistent

Pros: clear, sharp, consistent color, I got many to use on multimonitor computers and the color is very, very consistent across all of them

Cons: could have a thinner border

4 out of 5 eggs"Black" is not a supported color

Pros: -Looks good in most cases
-Not one of those stupid widescreen monitors

Cons: -Does not display black, instead more of a dark gray

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent standard format monitor

Pros: I needed a standard format monitor to go into a PC driven arcade cabinet. Since CRTs are extremely difficult to come by, I went with a standard format LCD instead.

The picture quality is excellent on the monitor with great color saturation and darker blacks for an LCD. Pictures don't look washed out, I actually even had to turn the brightness down as it was at a really intense brightness out of the box. Great screen refresh timing so no blurring of moving images with the DVI connection on my system that I could see.

Has built in speakers

The monitor supports both DVI and VGA inputs should you still need analog support.

This also supports VESA mounting brackets which was another requirement for my specific use type, although you can use the provided stand.

If you need a standard format monitor, you would be hard pressed to do better than this monitor.

Cons: It's only a 19" display, I wish you could economically get larger standard format LCD displays.

Seems like a lot of money compared to 20-23+" widescreen monitors cost these days. Purely a supply/demand thing I'm sure.

Not a fan of the OSD setup menus. Feels a little cumbersome to use, although personal preference and really nit-picky for this. You don't have to use it often though, so not a huge deal.

The built in speakers are not very high quality compared to what you could get with a small cost investment. Pretty comparable to low cost/OEM throw-in type desk speakers. It'll get the job done, and worked well for testing/installing the OS. You don't buy a monitor for sound though, so it's not something to drop an egg with the rating.

5 out of 5 eggsWorth the price ... for this "crossgrade"

Pros: Fearing that 4:3-format monitors are going the way of the buggy whip, I bought a couple of these monitors based in part on these NewEgg reviews. (I bought them elsewhere to save some bucks).

The goal was to replace Acer AL-1916 monitors, which only display a small range of grey shades (everything between 0% and 12% grey is displayed identically ... and is even then, only visible when looking obliquely at the screen of the Acer).

Well, the Acers are going on the shelf (for insurance, don'cha know), and in short order, all of our monitors are being replaced with these bright ASUS VB198T-P monitors!

If you don't want to be forced into wide-format display purchases in the future, or are just looking for a very good 19" LED monitor ... then go for it. The OEM packaging is top rate ... all cables are included (VGA, DVI, audio, power).

Cons: 19" is the largest model. 21" at the same (or greater) resolution would be ideal.

Other Thoughts: I suspect I missed the sweet spot on the price of these monitors. Something tells me the price will go up, before going down ...

3 out of 5 eggsDecent Monitor, bad warranty

Pros: 75hz refresh rate.

Cons: I have about 30 of these deployed at the office. 4 of them have developed wavy lines diagonally across the entire screen, 2 of them are so bad, they're unusable. Asus warranty is 3 years from MFG Date, not purchase date. Even though these have all been deployed less than 2 years, they are not covered by warranty, because they were manufactured in the summer of 2010 and sold at the beginning of 2012.

Other Thoughts: Would never buy again

5 out of 5 eggsSquare-Bears

Pros: Harder and harder to find 4:3 Letterbox Formats, everything is widescreen.

The contrast, especially with white backgrounds and black text, is amazing. Very sharp/crisp image. Viewing Angle is better than some of the widescreen monitors this size.

No issues/flaws/defects. Light, sleek, black, VESA Mounting (harder and harder to find these days)

Cons: Doesn't have an input button. Not something you think about with monitors like these, but it would be very helpful instead of using the OSD to switch back and forth.

Price seems a bit high, even though it's "outdated tech".

Other Thoughts: Business use - documents and PDF's and whatnot. No gaming or graphics uses. Very easy to look at "boring stuff" all day on these without any negative side affects.

5 out of 5 eggsBought 4 over 1 year

Pros: 4:3, good color and sturdy. Wall mountable, audio, DVI+VGA . Pair well together

Cons: A bit pricy

Other Thoughts: A Bit pricy for what you can get in a wide screen, but this is not wide screen.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Monitor, Great Price

Pros: 4:3 is a perfect size for document reading, as well as having perfect clarity, brightness, color, and NO DEAD PIXELS!! This is my third Asus monitor, and I've never a dead pixel (not ONE) or any other issues. Got here in 3 business days.

Cons: None, other than you didn't get one.

Oh yeah, the speakers suck. (who cares)

Other Thoughts: I'm using this monitor to complete a (3) monitor panorama between (2) Asus VW246H 24" and it lines up perfectly. The only issue in running triple monitors is the slight color variation between the three. This one is a definite buy. Get yours now, as 4:3 will probably go away over time.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat!

Pros: Love the size, works perfect quality-wise especially for older games that only use 4:3 aspect ratio and was fairly cheap. Also shipping brought it in 2-3 days before it was supposed to arrive !

Cons: None so far!

Other Thoughts: Was a great upgrade from my old 15.6 inch widescreen, unbelievably larger screen-size. Mainly got it for retro-gaming due to less widescreen support back in the day.

5 out of 5 eggsGood monitor!

Pros: Amazing colors, brightness, and contrast. I purchased this Asus VB198T-P to replace my ancient Samsung SyncMaster 940B. I keep an old Windows XP computer around as a backup system, and to run my old games that either do not support widescreen (Republic Commando, Return to Castle Wallenstein, X-Wing Alliance, etc). The old Samsung developed a few too many dead pixels, but it gave me a decade of service. As soon as I plugged the Asus in I was shocked at how crisp and bright the monitor was in comparison to the 940B.

Cons: None that I can think of.

Other Thoughts: It would seem that it is becoming difficult to find standard 4:3 monitors these days. I would suggest grabbing one now before they stop making them.
