4 out of 5 eggsGreat Product...for the most part

Pros: -Great size, haven't bought a monitor in a couple years, this thing is huge!
-Slim bezel, just as it says very nice.
- Gives off great, beautiful colors

Cons: - The one I received the display screen came with the top area damage, you can see the backlighting, and it distorts the color on top half of the display.

Other Thoughts: - Docking an egg because of the defect in it(still usable but the damage is noticeable).
-Had it sitting in my closet since December, because I'm building a new gaming rig, finished my build today ~ 02/06/16. But I have to RMA it to ASUS because I received defected, and its out of neweggs return period.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Needed a new monitor for a build I am doing for my nephew for his schoolwork. Tested it out and picture was clear and colors seemed fine. It came with plenty of cables. The speakers sound pretty good as well.

Cons: Don't really think there are any cons. This monitor has been great for me so far.

Other Thoughts: I don't like the flap on the back of the monitor covering all the connection ports, but I guess I can live with it since I shouldn't need to mess with the cords anyways.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat panel, Hilariously wobbly stand, Rebate has issues

Pros: Everything about the panel is very nice as other reviews indicate.

Cons: The included stand feels like a prank. It wobbles from side to side a LOT. Just walking around the room makes the monitor dance around. Throw it out and get a nice VESA mount.

Other Thoughts: The ASUS mail-in rebate does NOT give you $20 like Newegg claims, it gives you a $20 prepaid American Express card. What kind of junk is that? Everywhere I go, I see "we don't take amex" signs, so this rebate is not worth $20, it's worth $20 minus the value of your time required to figure out where you can spend it.

Also as you'd expect, the rebate claim process is unnecessarily bureaucratic, it requires printing and snail mail and 8-10 weeks for processing. The web form would not even accept my correct mailing address. NewEgg should not be allowed to advertise a purchase price that includes the value of the rebate, when the rebate comes with all these strings attached.

3 out of 5 eggsIt is Ok for the price

Pros: - Great price because there is a rebate.
- I like the matte screen.
- ECO mode - I am not sure that it is really save the energy.

Cons: - Reading mode is weird, even more blurry with ECO mode on. This mode is useless.
- Button is hiding, hard to control.
- Control panel is hard to understand also. Many useless function.

Other Thoughts: I got this monitor for few days. I still did not figure out on how to reduce the brightness and contrast. The control panel is hard to understand. The button is behind the screen, hard to navigate it. You need to get familiar to control the monitor with 4 fingers. Otherwise, it is going to be a challenge.

I love reading mode, however, the reading mode in this monitor is weird. All the fonts are blurry. It is even more blurry for reading mode + ECO mode on. I don't play game or do extreme photo design, so I could not give review base on that. I see the normal monitor quality so far. Bing daily photo is great in this monitor, but it is not amazing.

The screw to hang this monitor is not a standard. It is bigger than a normal size. It does not come with the monitor.

The mHDMI cable which come with the monitor is useless. I am not able to use my Samsung Galaxy S4 to do that. I am still try to figure out.

I used to work for ASUS long time ago, so I was proud with this brand. However, this monitor is beyond my expectation. Sadly, I cut the box for rebate purpose, so I will not able to return it.

5 out of 5 eggsBetter than the Acer G6.

Pros: Big, bright, sharp, good viewing angles, has speakers, and low price (got it on sale). Uses standard power cord (i.e. no transformer). Speakers are good enough.

Cons: Flimsy stand (tends to rock when the desk is bumped), no height adjustment. Power-on LED a tad bright.

Other Thoughts: I'm giving it 5 stars even with the above cons mainly because I purchased the Acer G246HYL before this and I could not live with it. The Asus is brighter, cleaner, sharper, and most importantly, the light/white solid areas are even edge-to-edge (documents looked mottled on the Acer). The speakers are also a little better than the Acer, and it uses a standard power cord (the Acer uses a transformer).

Bottom Line: I am very happy with the Asus VN-248H and would buy it again. I wish it had a built-in USB hub and better stand, but given the price-point, I'll take a quality display over the accoutrements.

One more thing - even though I'm currently using the D-sub input (through a KVM switch), I won't buy a monitor without an HDMI input for future use (which is why I kept passing on the Dell that keeps going on sale). Guess what I did with the Acer? I plugged in a Chromecast and now it's a little TV.

1 out of 5 eggs0 for 2. Bad quality control and customer service. You get what you pay for.

Pros: none.

Cons: I got two of these monitors and both of them have dust trapped inside the panel. Very annoying.

Other Thoughts: I wouldn't recommend this monitor or ASUS to ANYONE. Their QC is horrible and will not stand behind their products. 3 year rapid replacement is a LIE. They will not honor this warranty.

5 out of 5 eggsSecond monitor to complete my duel monitor setup!

Pros: Super thin bezel, great for a duel monitor setup. Great color/screen quality, at least from what I can tell.

This isn't so much about the monitor, but more about NewEgg. They delivered this within 2 days, and I used the standard shipping method. I was, and still am, super surprised and happy!

Keep up the amazing work NewEgg!

Cons: I said this in my other review when I bought my first monitor, but the only thing that needs to be improved upon is the monitor stand. If you have a somewhat unstable desk these monitors will rock side-to-side a bit.

Other Thoughts: Great monitor, especially for the price! I'd definitely recommend to a friend if they were looking for a new monitor.

3 out of 5 eggsok for price

Pros: price is right, no dead pixels on mine

Cons: inputs in difficult place
sound issue, finally fixed, ymmv
wake from sleep issue fixed with better hdmi cable

Other Thoughts: Had this monitor since Nov 2013, bought it for 149 less 20 rebate, so price hasn't changed much.

Not only are the inputs behind an unecessary flap and the hdmi input 1 nudged too close to the monitor stand, but they are in a recessed well with raised molded plastic along the bottom that's 1.5 to 2" below the inputs. This design makes it difficult to force in stiff shielded cables that don't have small, narrow plastic housings on the end. Thick cables get bent to get over the bottom of the monitor recessed well side. I usually lay the monitor face down on a table to force in inputs, quicker than trying to do the same upright.

The in-the-way access door will pop right out of the side grooves if you bend it out in the center next to the monitor stand. No dust will get in there since the recessed inputs are upside down. I believe the door's sole purpose is to annoy.

I think I finally got the waking from sleep issue resolved by using a different hdmi cable and I've tried it in both hdmi input locations and with windows 7 control panel power settings pci express link state power management both on and off, hybrid sleep on or off, hibernate on/off, doesn't matter. Now I can move my wireless mouse and the computer wakes up from sleep AND sends a signal to the monitor to wake up as well. So try a different hdmi cable. The one that works for me is a 'twisted veins', I bought 'Twisted Veins High Speed HDMI Receiver Pack (includes Three 3' and One 10' cables) + Right Angle Adapter and Velcro Cable Ties', under 10bux. I double checked this with the PC and monitor both on, swapping out cables. I'm sure there a countless others for less $ that will work.

There is a slight delay for the monitor to respond from sleep in that it takes a second or two longer than my laptop screen to wake from sleep.
This monitor is hooked up to an htpc build, mostly all purchased on the egg:
Asrock H97m-Itx/Ac
I3-4150 3.5ghz, using onboard video, onboard sound
SSD Crucial Mx100 256gb
4gb X 2 Crucial Pc3-12800h
Thermaltake Core V1 Extreme Mini ITX Cube
Win 7 pro 64bit

Not sure what I did to finally make sound work with hdmi, kodi, chromecast combo, but I think updating my drivers did it.
Install kodi and any addons like stream all the sources. Install Chromecast app and Chromecast casting extension, pair it with the Chromecast on the TV.
Open Chrome and select the “Cast” option from Chromecast extension and under “Cast this tab to…” on the right ia a small down arrow, click it and select “Cast entire screen (experimental)” to cast entire computer desktop to TV. Chromecast full screen will probably stutter over wifi, but can improve if click the Google Cast icon in Google Chrome then Options and change casting options to 720p or lower. If connected via ethernet, no stutter on my setup with auto (high).

Under Windows 7 control panel - sound, playback I have ASUS VN248 Intel Display Audio 'Ready', Speakers Realtek High Definition Audio as default device, Realtek Digital Output Realtek High Definition Audio 'Ready'. I had to download latest drivers from ASRock website for all this to work.

2 out of 5 eggsLooked nice but there was a problem

Pros: Pretty monitor, would have worked well, great size. Love RMA process, very easy.

Cons: It shipped with 2 stuck or dead pixels. One on the right lower corner and one in the middle. Once i noticed them it was hard to use. I tried getting them to work with a program but no luck. Had to return.
