3 out of 5 eggsDecent Monitor - Build Quality Questionable

Pros: Decent display. Beautiful design.

Cons: I've owned this monitor for about a year and a half. The bottom bezel started separating from the screen a couple of months ago. At this point there's about a 2mm gap between the screen and the bottom bezel. Disappointing.

1 out of 5 eggswish i could get my money back

Pros: Good monitor for the price

Cons: ASUS Rapid Replacement for 3 years.....

Around the 1st of January I noticed a small line of dead pixels. So I RMA'ed it. Got the replacement monitor 2-3-15 came in a box way to big for it and it was broken. Took till 2-9-15 to get another RMA set up and they were going to cross-ship me a new one. It is now 3-21-15 I have no monitor anymore and do not know if i will ever have one again. Asus has no clue what happen to it or what the status is on the RMA.

I have been promised emails calls back and my case has been escalated for 3 weeks now. Nobody has ever contacted me with answers. When I contact them they act like they have not heard from me 15 times already this month.

Zero eggs if there was an option.

4 out of 5 eggsA very nice overall monitor

Pros: Huge display with thin bezels. Bezel is around half an inch it seems. IPS display with nice angles. Little to none back light bleeding thank goodness. No noticeable lag in gaming thus far. Paired with a GTX 970 and has performed admirably. Paid under $250 after rebate.

Cons: Buttons are insane. Who came up with super sensitive touch buttons with no feedback. Takes forever to do something simple because you are always accidentally pressing the wrong thing.

Other Thoughts: Some of the people here complaining have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. If you know you're buying a 1080p monitor at 27", obviously it can't be compared to a 27" 1440p or 4K. You can't just stretch pixels out and expect the same quality since the number count doesn't increase with size. This isn't CSI, you can't zoom in on a tiny crop of a security cam picture and then it becomes HD..

The only thing wrong with the monitor is the buttons. It's like solving a Rubik's cube just to do a simple task. Literally takes 5 minutes of back and forth tinkering to adjust one setting. Even the order of the buttons make no sense. It's something like "Return, Up, Select, Down" except in linear form. Why wouldn't you put up and down together. And since the buttons activate anytime you breathe, it's a test of patience.

As for color, the monitor, for the price!, is actually quite accurate and vivid. This monitor is a 27" IPS which can be had for under $250 shipped. Not a bad deal at all. 5ms GTG is good enough for most gamers, no noticeable lag unless you are playing right next to a 1ms/120+hz. Even then it's barely worth mentioning. This is a solid 4 star to 4.5 star monitor. On a side note, those complaining about speakers on a monitor. You've got to be kidding.. They are probably 2 watts.. Any serious gamer, entertainment enthusiast would at least have 2.1 speakers set up. Knocking off a star for speakers on a monitor is ridiculous.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Entry Level IPS Display

Pros: Big, bright, aesthetically pleasing.

Cons: As other mentioned, the buttons are a bit of a pain, but I rarely have need to use them, so it's no big deal. Text isn't quite as smooth as it could be. I guess I can try to calibrate better. Maybe at 27" 1080 isn't enough resolution. Still looks very very nice though. I guess it doesn't have the standard VESA (or whatever it's called) mounting capability, but I just use the included stands.

Other Thoughts: I use two of these. Do some photo editing, pro tools, etc. Great displays for the price. I bought one a few years ago and just bought another because I liked to so much.

4 out of 5 eggsgood monitor

Pros: colors do look nice and makes my old samsung p2770 look washed out. very happy with colors

Cons: the backlighting is bad.. very bright, on a black screen when all colors are black from the led backlight it doesnt look so black. and there is no way to change the back light. the buttons are so sensitive they start doing stuff when my finger is about 1/2 inch away from them... very hard to surf the monitor menus

Other Thoughts: i'd put this monitor worth about 280 no more... it really dont have very many menu options at all... all in all i do like 2 of the preset modes, which is scenery and game...

4 out of 5 eggsHappy with the buy overall

Pros: - Looks great! Very slim bezel and nice looking stand
- Screen size is excellent. Not too large either.
- Easy to adjust color settings
- No dead pixels
- Small external power square

Cons: - Buttons can be kinda weird to work with, but it isn't worth docking an egg for it
- As others have mentioned, pixels are somewhat visible at 1080p on a 27". I still love the monitor though, but if this is an important con for you, then go with 1440px or smaller screen size

3 out of 5 eggsLooks good on the outside, but...

Pros: Sleek, very thin bezel, looked very good on my desk.

Cons: 1920x1080 is very pixellated at 27". This monitor might look good, have a fast response time, nice color, etc., but that means nothing to me if I can actually see the pixels in diagonal lines. I RMAed it.

Other Thoughts: Coming from an old Dell Ultrasharp 24" monitor, I was expecting better resolution, smoother lines, and somewhat crisp text. As soon as the "Asus" splash screen appeared, I noticed the pixellation. I really think we are all becoming spoiled by the high resolution smartphones and tablets. I would spring for one of the higher end Asus monitors. Don't get caught up in the "outer beauty" of this one.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Beautiful design. Very sleek and elegant. Sundial stand is a nice touch. Colours are nice and the panel is very responsive for an IPS.

Cons: Slightly low due to the sundial stand not having any height adjustment capability. Menu touch buttons take a bit getting used to, but contrary to other comments, the menu is very straight forward. (The up/down and left/right icons are displayed right in front of the buttons on the bezel.) Wish it was 1440p. Coming from a 24" monitor, 1080p just doesn't quite cut it for me now at a 27" size. Live and learn, though.

2 out of 5 eggsNo VESA Mounting Holes

Pros: Lots of features.
Sleek aesthetic design.

Cons: This monitor is one of the few that does not have VESA mounting holes on the back. This information is nowhere to be found in the specifications, and there are no pictures above of the back of the monitor.

I suppose as a feature, the argument could be made that they do not need to list this deficiency, but as the vast majority of modern monitors have this capability I feel it is similar to not providing them with a stand, and expecting the customer to notice that a functioning stand was not listed on the product features.

After I had already purchased this monitor, I noticed there was an exisiting 1 star review complaining about this issue, along with a response from an ASUS customer service agent asking the customer to contact them. I decided I would contact ASUS myself to see if they could help in anyway. This was their response:

"Dear XXXXX,

Thank you for contacting ASUS Customer Service.
My name is XXXXX and it is my pleasure to help you with your problem.

I am afraid to say that VX279Q doesn't support VESA mount. Hope you could understand.

If you continue to experience issues in the future, please do not hesitate to contact us."

Extremely helpful. I guess ASUS only tries to resolve your problems if you post a negative review in a public space.

TLDR: I should have paid more attention to the common monitor features that were not listed on this product before buying it and ASUS customer service will help with issues that have public exposure that they wouldn't ordinarily help with.

Other Thoughts: If you are looking for a monitor without VESA support, I suppose this is probably more of a 4 or 5 star product. However the only feature that REALLY mattered to me was missing, so for me it is a 1 star product.
