2 out of 5 eggsNo VESA Mounting Holes

Pros: Lots of features.
Sleek aesthetic design.

Cons: This monitor is one of the few that does not have VESA mounting holes on the back. This information is nowhere to be found in the specifications, and there are no pictures above of the back of the monitor.

I suppose as a feature, the argument could be made that they do not need to list this deficiency, but as the vast majority of modern monitors have this capability I feel it is similar to not providing them with a stand, and expecting the customer to notice that a functioning stand was not listed on the product features.

After I had already purchased this monitor, I noticed there was an exisiting 1 star review complaining about this issue, along with a response from an ASUS customer service agent asking the customer to contact them. I decided I would contact ASUS myself to see if they could help in anyway. This was their response:

"Dear XXXXX,

Thank you for contacting ASUS Customer Service.
My name is XXXXX and it is my pleasure to help you with your problem.

I am afraid to say that VX279Q doesn't support VESA mount. Hope you could understand.

If you continue to experience issues in the future, please do not hesitate to contact us."

Extremely helpful. I guess ASUS only tries to resolve your problems if you post a negative review in a public space.

TLDR: I should have paid more attention to the common monitor features that were not listed on this product before buying it and ASUS customer service will help with issues that have public exposure that they wouldn't ordinarily help with.

Other Thoughts: If you are looking for a monitor without VESA support, I suppose this is probably more of a 4 or 5 star product. However the only feature that REALLY mattered to me was missing, so for me it is a 1 star product.

Pros: When working...fast response, good color rendition, design

Cons: Died after 2 months, menu buttons are overly sensitive

Other Thoughts: Really disappointed with this purchase. My Samsung monitor that I had previously worked for 6 years without a hitch. This Asus monitor lasted about 2 months.

Pros: Nice design (frame less)
Small footprint
Speakers are good for what they are

Cons: I have had this monitor since the beginning of December (almost 3 months) and now its starting fail. The monitor constantly restarts, it has restarted 10 times as i am writing the review... contacted Asus and they gave me the generic response ( check your cables) even though I have stated I had already done this. I thought this monitor would be a upgrade coming from a 6 year old hannspree but i guess not.. now the speakers are cutting out, the menu buttons are non responsive, and there is no indicator light on the monitor unit itself. I would save your money and go with something else

Other Thoughts: seriously ive never been so disappointed with a Asus product...

Pros: good spec

Cons: The screen is turning bright to dark and again to bright, this cycle seems to be forever. Tried 3 cables and 4 PCs and 1 Mac and different settings, the problem remains the same...

Flashing lines in the top of the screen...

Other Thoughts: Poor customer service

I should have bought the monitor from other brand...

Pros: Beautiful picture, very aesthetic looking. Slim bezel (slimmer than my old Samsung P2250 at least).
No dead pixels. Nice and slim
Couldn't be happier

Cons: Not really a con but yes the buttons are very sensitive. It takes a couple minutes to figure out how lightly you need to touch. Not a big deal though

Other Thoughts: I was on the fence about getting an Asus or Samsung. Glad I went with this monitor. Asus is a great brand! I can't wait to get a couple more of these. Hopefully this monitor outlasts my Samsung. 27' is HUGE!

Pros: As many others have said, this is a great monitor for the price. Sure there are some higher quality IPS panels out there but price per performance this one is awesome. I've had it for about a month and love the aspect ratio and rich colors in games. the slim bezel and overall appearance are great too.

Cons: There's no mounting holes in the back! this is a lost feature in this design but i use the leg mount anyway, however this is probably a selling point for some. Also the darks are a little too dark, and the brights are too bright in some games, (common for IPS panels) not too overwhelming but definitely a con.

Other Thoughts: if you're looking for a quality middle-grade IPS panel with a large display i highly recommend this product.

Pros: Good colors and picture

Cons: Dead pixels Went through two and both had a dead pixel, I wouldnt waste my time because newegg doesnt even test these just try another brand because I lost faith in asus after this but if you feel lucky try it out and you might get one without a dead pixel, Ive gone through two and am now worn out and dont even feel like exchanging this one again

Other Thoughts: theres better brands and places to buy that double check monitors, it might even be worth it to double check in person to see about dead pixels these days a purple one isnt that bad man man a red/green/yellow one can be SO ANNOYING!

Pros: None.

Cons: -Overly sensitive buttons
-Broke 2.5 months after purchase due to factory defect
-Huge pixels
-Speakers make droning noise when turned on, even when at 1/100 of volume.
-Heavily overpriced.

Other Thoughts: I bought this monitor about 2.5 months ago. I liked it. Great colors and response time. However the film started to come off the LCD screen. No, not that thin generic protective film. Tantalizing film. Now there is a 1/2 inch think white strip at the top of my monitor and the picture is not complete. I sent it to asus and they promised that repairs would take up to 3 days. I checked the link to status update that they sent me, but the status was spelled in Chinese characters. What's the use if the customer does not read Chinese? 2 weeks later, I had heard nothing, so I called them. They told me that the repairs were on hold but they were not sure what the reason was. A few days later I got an email from repair shop saying that the warranty does not cover "physical damage" even if it is a factory defect and I have to pay close to $200 to have LCD screen replaced. Of course my warranty was voided at this point. They shipped the screen back but forgot to include specialized power cord that came with the screen. Now repair shop ignored my emails asking to return the power cord.

What a joke! This customer support is unacceptable!

Pros: Bought this via a black friday deal - amazing value for an entry-level IPS panel monitor. Like that it has multiple built in color profiles including sRGB. Terrific image quality and great contrast for video and photo editing. Kids are happy playing minecraft on it. We watched 1080p Avatar on it for kicks and see amazing detail, color and clarity.

Cons: As prior reviewers have noted, the menu buttons are very sensitive, and the menu is not intuitive and the non-obvious settings are not documented at all. I really wish monitor makers would just let you use an app to configure things like the TV manufacturers are starting to do.

Other Thoughts: Very happy, great value.
