Pros: Beautiful screen, Great size

Cons: First there was a small dot on the border screen that I tried to ignore but now every time I plug in the Display port it randomly decides not get the signal. Usually a reset (replugging the DP into my card) will fix it but it's absurd that I even have to do that on a monitor that cost this amount.

Other Thoughts: Not sure if I'll buy another Asus monitor after this.

2 out of 5 eggsa word of advice

Pros: Nice while they work.

Cons: I've purchased at least 6 Asus monitors over the past few years. Many different models. As of yesterday, the last of them has started to fail, bringing the total to all. yep, all have failed.
Do as I do. Do not purchase ASUS monitors.

Other Thoughts: difficult to dispose of after they fail.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsWell worth the money buying 2 more.

Pros: Huge
Lots of menu options.
Decent response for gaming

Cons: Not really a con but
Not 144hz
Not 4k

Other Thoughts: This monitor is utterly beautiful and is wonderful for a 1920x1080 monitor. It's big enough for content creation and for watching movies. I use this for gaming on BF4 and Arma 3 and both look utterly beautiful on this monitor. Just because of the monitors looks and performance I'm getting 2 more for a 3x 28" 1080 setup.

4 out of 5 eggsVN289Q review

Pros: Nice clear Picture, monitor is very bright.
28" screen is nice size
Price, was 100$ off when I purchased
Has DP, HDMI, DVI connectors

Cons: Stand is not great, a bit wobbly. Make sure you tighten the little black screen before putting on base, it helps.
Asus does not have drivers (still works with generic ones fine)

Other Thoughts: Overall it is a pretty good monitor, if you have a solid desk the stand won't matter. I noticed one game ran at 60 hz, not 75, not sure if because of game or (lack of) Asus drivers.

Pros: its big plenty of options i really love it

Cons: what i don't like is that the screen it self is really shinny and has high reflection so anything that your viewing that is dark you will always see your reflection almost like a mirror its almost unbearable for a gaming aspect

Other Thoughts: maybe an anti glare finish on this screen would of been way better

Pros: I like the size and brightness of the screen. It has a lot of features. I have yet to learn all of the controls that are featured, but it seems like it has a lot of customizable settings. I like the fact that all of the cables needed for the display modes were included, they didn't cheap out on that!!!

Cons: I have this screen attached to an 2008 Mac Mini and use it to primarily display my calendar for planning and notes. The text could be clearer and more sharp. Sort of soft edges and blurry. It is very readable but could be better. Resolution settings in the Mac preferences are set for Best for Display, refresh at 60 hertz NTSC.

Other Thoughts: None at this time.

5 out of 5 eggsGood monitor for the money

Pros: -Excellent contrast ratio, handles dark colors and dark scenes very well.
-Lots of screen real estate here, 28" is quite big!
-Pre-set screen modes are a nice touch, and there are quite a few to work with
-Menu is far less difficult to navigate than any other monitor I have had to deal with, though there is still room for improvement
-No lack of input options, and comes with cables for nearly every possibility you might need. This includes HDMI-to-MHL for anyone who uses their tablet or smartphone a lot, and I was thrilled by this!
-The Eye-care function is a welcome change, more about this at the bottom.
-Rapid replacement is nice, but I don't think I've ever had a monitor last less than 10 years!

Cons: -Biggest flaw by far is the flimsy stand. Even light tremors, from typing to hard for instance, will cause the monitor to shake noticeably. For a monitor in the $300 range I would expect something much sturdier.
-No HDMI cable. Not a major issue for me, but be aware of this if you prefer HDMI to other formats.
-Screen has a glossy finish, so be aware that any lights behind you will be reflected rather well, even more so when displaying dark images.

Other Thoughts: First off, more on the Eye-care function! Most screens on the market use a flickering backlight; be it CCFL, WLED, or RBGLED, and this flickering is thought to contribute to eye strain. The term for this technique is Pulse Width Modulation, PWM, and initially was used to give CCFL backlighting a larger range of luminescence outside of the strict voltage and current limitations it has. This was continued with LED based backlights to preempt a runaway heat and current cycle in high output LEDs, preventing current overloads and stabilizing color temperature. PWM is not all bad, and is even cornerstone of the nVidia Lightboost Hack.

The research I've done tells me this monitor uses DC power to supply a constant and controlled power level to the backlight, removing the need for PWM. Most monitors on the market use AC power, which does not allow power levels to be adjusted based on lighting needs, hence the use of PWM. If you are interested on this topic, or want to do some serious research on monitors before you upgrade, I recommend you check out TFTCentral. They have incredibly in-depth reviews and articles, even if only for a select few monitors.

I have personally noticed a reduction of eye-strain when using this monitor, which is a huge help to me as I have an admittedly poor habit of multi-hour sessions on the computer.

One final note: you should seriously consider a monitor mount of some kind if you purchase this screen. The stand it comes with isn't poor quality, rather it is just poorly designed and the base connects to the neck with connection points that are perpendicular to the monitor. That is the source of the instability, so damage is not a concern, just the disruption caused by the shaking!

TL;DR: This is a great monitor for the money, and should help anyone with eye-strain, but you may want to get a mount of some kind to go with it! 4.5/5 gets rounded to 5!

1 out of 5 eggsNice cosmetics; poor screen

Pros: Fantastic size; fairly thin bezel; plenty of connection options; matte case (not glossy); VESA mountable

Cons: Poor screen; weak stand, awful speakers; menu button placement

Other Thoughts: Purchased on-line (not Newegg). After removing it from the box, it looked fantastic. Big, wide screen. Nice, fairly thin bezel. Stand is a little shaky for a monitor of this size. Plugged it into a newly built Intel I7 computer (HD 4600 Graphics). Tested it first on VGA graphics. Right away, noticed vertical banding across the screen whenever there was a solid background (dark, then light stripes vertically across the screen, mostly centered - right edge had less banding, left edge looked good from the edge to about 1/4 width); also banding was apparent in desktop wallpaper (nature scenes) and photos, just not as pronounced as on a solid colored background. Tried to adjust color, brightness, contrast, picture mode, etc. Tried Windows screen calibration program. Nothing worked. So, I thought maybe it was a VGA problem, and switched to DVI. No change. Switched to HDMI. No change. Thought maybe it was my setup, after all this was on a new computer with on-board graphics. So, hooked up to my old desktop (Core 2 Duo, Nvidia 8600 PCI Graphics Card) via DVI. Same problem. So, after trying it with two different computers, with two different types of graphics systems and three different types of hookups, I could never get rid of the vertical banding. Not sure if this is a problem with the power-supply inside the monitor (doesn't use a "brick" power supply, just a cord plugged into the back), or speaker shielding, or what is causing this... Also, tried the internal speakers - pretty tinny, and not much volume. Power buttons/menu buttons are located on the back, and don't quite correspond to the labeling on the front, so you find yourself pushing the wrong button occasionally. Overall, I was pretty disappointed with it. I wish it would have worked as good as it looked - I was really looking forward to having a big monitor like this.
