5 out of 5 eggsAsus PB287Q 4K

Pros: This monitor is awesome. With the last driver from Nvidia, I have noticed such a great increase in performance playing games. I have never owned a TN panel, but this one is as accurate as any IPS ultra sharp dell that I have ever owned. The colors are wonderful. I got this monitor to experience 4k and didn't expect it to be anything but a basic monitor. I am so blown away with the clarity, the sharpness, and how wonderful games look on it. I highly recommend this monitor.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: If you are on the fence about this monitor, worried that a TN panel won't work for you. Don't give it another thought, this monitor can be used by content creators and gamers, which I think is a perfect mix.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome bargain 4K monitor!

Pros: 10-bit color TN panel looks great - best looking TN panel I have ever seen...even better than my Asus ROG Swift!!

4K content looks absolutely stunning - literally jaw dropping --> thanks to YouTube for providing some native 4K content :D

60Hz refresh rate (using DisplayPort 1.2 option)

Highly adjustable stand (height, tilt, pivot, rotate)

Outstanding build quality by Asus

1/3 the price of the cheapest IPS 4K monitor

Picture-in-picture feature is very nice to have and works well

I got mine as an "Open Box" item from Newegg and saved $100 ....W00T!!

Cons: Still a TN panel

OSD menu navigation buttons are a bit of a pain, but you get used to them after using them a few times - Asus should have used the exact same OSD menu button and joystick as on the ROG Swift!

Does not have 120Hz refresh rate

Does not have G-Sync (or FreeSync)

Other Thoughts: This is an outstanding 4K monitor for anyone considering venturing into the UHD world of computing. If you take the time to calibrate this monitor (default out-of-the-box settings are horrible), you will find out just how nice this monitor looks!

What I really hate is when people buy this monitor, but don't do any kind of homework or research whatsoever and call it a bad monitor. And the other mistake made by a majority of non-tech savvy customers is they try to compare a $600 4K TN panel monitor to a $2000+ 4K IPS monitor. That's an apples-to-oranges comparison people - wake up and get with the program! This monitor works perfectly fine and does exactly as Asus designed it to do.

I was able to get it set up and running within 5 minutes with no issues whatsoever. Running at 60Hz and all looks awesome! No flickering at all and no problems switching it to Displayport 1.2 within the OSD on the monitor. No popping sounds either, so no problems with the monitor speakers or the monitor itself. Though I have heard that muting the speakers in the OSD menue resolves this issue..

IMPORTANT: People who have impaired vision and/or require reading glasses - you will need to increase the font size scaling within the windows using the personalization option. Fair warning, if left at default settings, the font size in menus and on certain websites is extremely small!

All-in-all, this is a fantastic budget option for those looking to enjoy 4K right now without having to spend over three times as much money.

If you are willing to spend $300 more, AOC will be releasing a 4K 60Hz monitor that has G-Sync next month (Oct 2014) that will cost retail $799. If you are willing to spend $200 more for G-Sync, then I would recommend you wait and buy that 4K monitor instead).

5 out of 5 eggsGreat cheap 4k for Macbook Pro

Pros: Wow really bright and good colors especially for non-IPS. works great with Mavericks (OSX) Macbook Pro Retina 15" late 2013 (needs minidisplay to display cable, not included). It does come with Displayport to Displayport cable. Make sure you go into the displayport stream and change it 1.2. I've only had it for a few days, but its great value for 4k.

Cons: Not so good with HDMI- 30hz refresh. If you have a Macbook Pro, make sure you buy a minidisplay to displayport (normal). That'll get you 60hz. Also viewing angles are limited relative to an IPS display. If you're right in front of it, you'll be fine.

4 out of 5 eggsVery Nice Monitor

Pros: Large bright screen, will do 60Hz at 4k. I saved some bucks buying from Newegg as an open box item. No dead pixels, at least none that I can see.

Cons: I did some homework before I bought this monitor, and some other reviews were quite correct when they said it need a quick tweak or two out of the box. The monitor defaulted to DisplayPort 1.1 for me, I had to manually select DP1.2 on the monitor itself. The menu buttons below and behing the lower right portion of the monitor are a bit of a pain, but after a few times, well, they're still a pain but not not the end of the world. I knocked one egg off mostly because of this.

Other Thoughts: Images look sharp and clear! I'm using my Nvidia Titan Black with 6GB of frame buffer. I haven't tried any demanding games at 4K yet, but I will soon. Demo videos I have tried look lovely!

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Clear picture, high PPI, small bezel

Cons: scaling doesn't work very well in windows. 4k resolution would be more useful for real estate at a bigger size. The audio port for the earphones is hard to access and there doesn't seem to be a way to switch from headphones to the internal stereos easily without having to fiddle around in the back with the audio port.

5 out of 5 eggs4K is epic

Pros: Glorious 4K @ 60hz
Beautiful Colors
Price

Cons: Setup
Buttons behind the screen

Other Thoughts: I had some issues with this right out of the box. Getting 4K at 60hz, you have to use display port, set the monitor to display port 1.2, then you have to change your computers refresh rate to 60hz your computer sets at 30hz native.
After that this monitor is awesome. Games are beautiful the stand is awesome.
Highly recommend.

4 out of 5 eggsit is a very good monitor.

Pros: I upgrade it from samsung t24 because my youngest one (terrible 2's) shattered the screen. I only had that monitor to compare to. the size and the potential resolution is wonderful. I say potential 4k resolution because I currently own 2 gtx 480s.i love the height adjustment.i currently run the monitor at 2560x1440 resolution. The height adjustment and rotation features have helped my son and I be able to adjust height and angle view to eye level since I am 6 foot tall and my oldest son is 4'3" (7) -we both play pc games.

Cons: default color and pictures settings are not good.

3 out of 5 eggsNot what I expected

Pros: It is the perfect size for me.

Cons: It will not upscale of play movies in 4 k so what is the point to having a monitor like this if it only puts games in k 4. If that is all up want it to do then it is great but make sure your video card can handle it.

Other Thoughts: None

4 out of 5 eggsSolid 4K on a budget, few quirks though

Pros: - Decent cost for 4K entry
- Nice adjustable stand
- Great colors for TN

Cons: - Can lose Displayport link at times which is annoying
- Windows 7 scaling issues with 4K (not really monitors fault)

Other Thoughts: Good monitor but has some quirks. As others state, Displayport connection can be finicky. Mine will not connect on boot every once and awhile. Sometimes I can turn the monitor off, wait a few seconds, then turn it back on, and it will work. Otherwise I have to reboot and then it will link. Kind of annoying to say the least, but I can live with it.

I run this monitor with a secondary 1920x1080p monitor which introduces some interesting Windows scaling issues. In order to have text readable in 4K, scaling will need to be upped to at least 150%. Of course, this makes everything else on the 1080p monitor huge. I am running Windows 7, which does not have the variable scaling that Windows 8/8.1 does so not much I can do about this quirk. Just have to deal with it unless there will be some change to Windows 7 for this, but don't see that happening.

For all the people that can't get it to work at 60Hz, you need to do two things:
1) you MUST use Displayport connection. The reviewer below me was using HDMI and this will not work above 30Hz.
2) you MUST enable DP 1.2 in the onscreen menus. By default it is set to DP 1.1 which is only 30Hz.

Of course you need a GPU that is capable of DP 1.2. Pretty sure most (if not all) higher-end recent hardware should have this, but just pointing it out.

2 out of 5 eggsI'm disapointed

Pros: The monitor is nicely build and very adjustable. The color rendering it very nice for a TN panel.

Cons: I had a hard time to get this monitor work at 4k resolution. Even now, I can't get it to work at 60Hz. I'm considering returning this item. With HDMI cable I only get 1920x1080@60hz.
When you look at the middle of the screen, you notice the color on each side of the screen is not accurate. It shift to light orange. I knew it was a TN panel, but never consider it will be a problem.
You need to play with you font size to make it comfortable working. Since I'm using a laptop, this make it a big unpleasant to switch from this monitor to my laptop screen. I always need to change the font size.

Other Thoughts: I guess it a bit too early to buy 4k monitor. I really thought it would be amazing to work with a 4k monitor with this size. But finally, I'm just very disappointed about the monitor. I managed to get it work after hours (get trouble with my Optimus video cards). The fact it doesn't work at 60Hz is a real stopper. Today I will go to a store to check alternatives.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Ikus060,

I am sorry to hear that you are not happy with the performance of your 4K monitor. Have you tried using the display port 1.2 rather than an HDMI? Or have you tried updating all your drivers to ensure that 60hz is compatible with your units? If you have any further questions for the manufacture, feel free to contact me at cl-jolene@asus.com. Please be sure to also include your reference case number N140849816 in the subject line of your email as well.

Thank you for choosing ASUS!

Best regards,
Jolene
