4 out of 5 eggsNice, but not perfect

Pros: Large screen, picture in picture options, 4k, good color

Cons: Bad button placement, on screen menu not very intuitive, limited connections (only 3), no USB 3.0 hub, limited vertical viewing angle "sweet spot"

4 out of 5 eggsSimply Beautiful, Price is Excellent!

Pros: This is a beautiful display. It replaced an older Asus 28" 1920x1200 monitor. I can now perform photo editing from my Canon 7D in very-near full resolution. The Spyder 3 calibration I use was very close to the native setting.

Cons: The buttons on the back of the monitor are in a terrible location. I wasn't as happy with the vendors order and shipping promptness, they need to take some lessons from NewEgg.

Other Thoughts: Playing 4k videos from Youtube are amazing and this monitor is worth every cent. I look forward to many years of use.

3 out of 5 eggsIf you MUST have 4K...

Pros: The monitor does output a 4K resolution and seems to work fairly well.

Cons: Sometimes the picture flickers, or even blanks entirely when switching inputs or using the PIP/PBP function. The 4K resolution does not seem to run at any higher than 30Hz and runs best at a lower rate around 23Hz. To operate the monitor at 60Hz, you must output an HDTV resolution somewhere around 1080p, not the 4K resolution that basically makes the monitor worth using.

Other Thoughts: I've never been anything but impressed and completely satisfied with an ASUS product. I feel a bit like I was mislead by the advertisement that the monitor runs 4K resolutions at 60Hz.

If you're looking for a 4K monitor to game on, I would not recommend this monitor. If you're looking for a 4K monitor to program on, or have multiple VM's open at once, this will do the trick for a good price and some minor irritations in operation.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat first 4K monitor

Pros: Outstanding picture at a great price. A lot more screen space over 1080p, 4X. Clarity is fantastic. It was on sale at a great price.

Cons: If you don't have a Display port 1.2 Cable, time to get one.

Other Thoughts: I was worried about what seemed to be a hit or miss for this monitor from the reviews. But, I have had no problems. All pixels work, and not lighting issues. It doesn't come setup to run 4K, so you have to go through the menus to activate Display Port 1.2. After that my card ran it fine. The warranty on it from Asus seems quite good too. Works good in games so far too. Good bang for the buck buy. 4K is awesome.

4 out of 5 eggsBeautiful

Pros: This is an absolutely beautiful monitor. Asus really hit it out of the park with this monitor. The matte black finish matches all of my other equipment and nicely veers away from the shiny, scratchy, piano black finish.

The versatility in positioning this monitor on its stock stand is awesome. With little to no effort, I can swivel, tilt, raise or lower this monitor. Very impressed with that functionality especially since it feels sturdy and durable. The base is very well placed and engineered. The whole monitor feels like its solid. No shaking as I type, no shuddering when I tilt it up or down, just smooth all the way. Very stable.

Cons: White haze around all the edges of the viewing surface, right out of the box :(

I decided not to return the unit simply because I didn't want to trade one problem for another. I have read a few reviews that have said they had dead pixels and various other small problems so, I just don't want one of those issues instead. It isn't noticeable when I am running applications but, when on my black desktop, I can see it clearly. It's a TN panel so, I am used to that but, I did knock an egg for that considering I paid a lot of dough for this monitor. Asus should have the bugs worked out a little better rather than trying to release something before a deadline.

The power and settings buttons are hard to get used to. When facing directly at this monitor, using my right hand, I have to turn my hand upside down and feel around for the buttons on the back of the monitor from the underside right corner. This is very cumbersome because unless you are facing directly at the small printed dots on the monitor (in the bottom right corner) it is hard to know which button is which. I spent a lot of time fishing around trying to get the right buttons when adjusting the settings.

Other Thoughts: This monitor is big. I couldn't imagine two of these beasts but, I am itching to try. I use Illustrator and Photoshop a lot so, having this size canvas is really nice.

The cables out of the box are a joke. I think it is nice that they even added a display port and 3.5mm cable however, the 3 foot size is barely long enough to stretch directly from my monitor to my PC, straight across my desk. If you are working with a tight space, this is nice but, being in art, I have a lot of business going on here and need the spread out space of having my PC over there, while my monitor is over here :) Longer cables would have been nice for the price point.

Don't forget, If you want the 60 htz refresh rate (the only rate this monitor should be operating at, imo) you will have to change the displayPort Stream to DP1.2, found in the system setup under the settings menu. Without this tiny adjustment, you will not be able to get that beautiful 60htz rate this thing needs to be running at.

5 out of 5 eggsOutstanding monitor

Pros: Super sharp and bright picture from any reasonable angle. Works great with DP (have not used it with HDMI) on both my desktop computer and laptop. Runs fine as a 1080p monitor for games that don't support UHD yet. Easy screen height adjustment. with a solid mount.

I will definetly consider this for other computers. Wish I had one or two for work as well - since they now look blurry in comparison! It will spoil you.

Cons: None - other than I wish I could afford more of these!

5 out of 5 eggsFlabergasted

Pros: I am flabbergasted at the level of clarity and detail. I don't even see the screen, I just see a clear sharp picture. I was disappointed when I first hooked it up, but I knew I had to get things setup correctly. Change the input to DP 1.2 (which was a bit tricky - it's buried in sub menus and not directly off the Display Port menu as one would think). My roommate thought I was crazy spending this money on this monitor. When she saw a 4k movie from Youtube, "Oh yea, okay, it was worth it.".

Cons: I am ruined for anything less than 4k gaming. The recommended settings from Tom's Hardware review online were perfect for me with the exception of the green - kept that at 100. Calibrate to your taste and you won't be disappointed.

Other Thoughts: I have an i7 3.6ghz, GTX760. When I fired up World of Warcraft I was STUNNED. Games look FANTASTIC on this ting. Anti Aliasing was turned off (I don't notice a difference w/ it on so no need to burn up precious cycles). and I toned down the shadows w/ everything else maxed. Ran very well. A new GTX 960 is most definitely in my future.

3 out of 5 eggsIt's ok...

Pros: 4k resolution
Decent chasis
Cheap for 4k
1ms response time
Really even from edge to edge

Cons: Really poor gamma
Really poor color
Really poor viewing angles

Other Thoughts: You get what you pay for here. With a TN panel you never expect it to reproduce colors well or have a correct gamma. What I was surprised with the most is how even it is from side to side when looking at it straight on. The colors don't change along the edges, and the lighting doesn't get darker on the edges either. Of all of the plethora of 4k monitors out that use the same 28" TN panel, this is the best, by millions of miles. But the panel is still pretty awful. You would be better off getting a really solid 1440p IPS monitor for the same price. In fact, the ASUS PB278Q is one of the best monitors ever IMO. I've used Eizo, NEC, every 4k monitor in existence from Samsung UD970, to the LG31mu97, to the ASUS PB328Q, even the iMac 5k and Dell 5k. It's not time for 4k yet. Maybe next year...

5 out of 5 eggsGet a DP 1.2 cable

Pros: Clean clear color. Works on my Mac and Windows.

Cons: I am getting old and I find myself leaning in at the monitor, which makes edge to edge viewing weird.

If you (and your eyes) are getting old, you might want to carefully consider how close you sit and your desk setup when looking at any 4K monitor.

I, like many others, had problems with the initial install and had to RMA my first monitor. I still had random flickers with my 2nd monitor, so I started researching and realized that there is a quality/testing difference between DP 1.1 and 1.2 cables. I ponied up for the 1.2 cable and ALL my flickering and refresh problems were fixed. YMMV
