4 out of 5 eggsPG278Q

Pros: - Excellent picture quality, high resolution at 144Hz
- G-sync makes games buttery smooth if you have a newer Nvidia GPU (ULMB feature should be a good substitute with other GPU options)
- Adjustable stand (height, tilt and rotate)
- Two USB 3.0 ports built in

Cons: - The cable that comes with the monitor is a little short, not a huge issue
- I bought a longer cable in anticipation of the short cable after reading reviews from other people. Unfortunately the cable I bought caused a flickering issue on anything other than 60Hz. Be careful if you run into this, it will require some technical know how to get around this in windows. For previous reviewers who ran into this issue, I would recommend verifying if you use a third part cable that it is approved by the displayport.org oversight committee for quality purposes. It should address the flickering issue, avoiding unnecessary returns of monitors to Newegg or other retailers

Other Thoughts: The monitor is expensive, but if you are considering purchasing this monitor then you probably already knew that. Beside some minor technical issues, this monitor is absolutely amazing and the best option on the market until 4k monitors with g-sync support refresh rates higher than 60Hz. Highly recommend for anyone that is considering this or is on the fence about purchasing it.

1 out of 5 eggsHeartbroken

Pros: G-Sync is a Godsend
1440p at 144hz on a 27"
Good colors for a TN
ULMB is nice, but prefer not to use as it affects color/clarity
Great aesthetics, sturdy-feeling build
OSD navigation
Easy setup, NVIDIA control

Cons: Not a ripoff, but too expensive
Dead pixels (5+) on two monitors
Backlight bleed, bottom bezel
Viewing angles, particularly vertical
Dark spots, uneven backlight uniformity
Grainy due to matte coating
"Turbo button" functions when it wants to
"Out of Range" issue
Lifespan concerns

Other Thoughts: I had been waiting on this monitor for a long time, and I was in love from the moment I saw pictures, read specs. And two months ago, end of August when I somehow secured an order from the launch batch, I was beyond excited. Didn't last too long though, as I quickly noticed the aforementioned flaws with the monitor. Sent it back after a few days of deliberation, hoping for an easy exchange. However, this monitor has a phobia of being in stock it would seem -- So i ended up with a refund. A two-month wait later I finally had another opportunity to make the purchase and, maybe desperately, I jumped on it again.

Here I am today, submitting this review via second PG278Q, a social gathering of dead pixels staring back at me, right side corners darkened to boot. Maybe I'm at fault for lofty expectations of a launch window product, maybe everyone reporting numerous issues with this monitor are, but this just isn't acceptable for premium equipment at a premium price.

Heartbroken.

1 out of 5 eggsGreat Idea, Horrible Execution, Sub-Par Brand

Pros: - G-Sync
- 1440p @ 144Hz w/ 1ms Response Time
- Thin bezel looks good even though the screen has an inner bezel that adds another 4mm so it's really 10ms... thin but definitely not "Frame-Less"
- NVidia 3D Vision 2 Looks Great This Time Around

Cons: - Defective Screens (Similar issues w/ trying 2 of these over the course of 2+ months)
- Both displays came out of the box with smudging or oil from bad handling during manufacturing
- Dark Spots/Shadows on screen look really bad
- Some of the worst screen-uniformity I've ever seen
- Dead Pixels
- Turbo Button doesn't work as advertised and sometimes reverts to 60Hz or 120Hz when you had 144Hz set and sometimes never wants to switch without repeatedly hitting the button is a problem
- Cloudy film over entire screen which can't be swiped off and makes pure white look very bad
- Blotchy cloudy hue changes over entire screen, easy to see at angles
- ASUS's idea of customer service is unfortunately as bad as everyone has expressed, a NIGHTMARE!!! After being disconnected by them on hold after 1 hr, sending an email, Facebook Message, and signing up on their SUPPORT Forums mind you to post and not a single response from any ASUS rep. They absolutely make it seem like they don't care about the customer and it's extremely and unfortunately apparent. I've seen many other customer horror stories out there about ASUS and they are a pretty narrow-sighted company for not investing more in those areas.
- One of the worst product launches. No effort on ASUS's part to keep customers that really were initial fans of this monitor, informed or up to date. I only knew about the Aug 26th launch from an obscure thread on their forums buried in the comments by an ASUS rep. If you get a bad unit which is very likely, good luck doing an exchange because it was hell for me to even get my hands on a second one. ASUS really should re-brand their ROG division as it doesn't live up to the name by any means. Now if I was a lucky person and actually got a working product of theirs, I might think differently but it makes me understand why I go with other better brands and have stayed so far away from ASUS for so many years.
- ASUS -> ASUS is a pretty big con here because if another high-end company like Samsung that has proven quality QA-tested products, made a gaming monitor with these specs, execution would've easily been better including the launch and the hype would've been well-deserved. Another thing is I'm a professional who uses their PC for not just for gaming, but for work. ASUS, even on their IPS displays (at least from the 5 I've received), are not a professional brand for professionals and clearly not reliable for that type of use. Now I cannot speak for all their displays or for people that actually have a non-defective unit but all I can speak of is my experiences. And with 7 of their monitors in a row being defective, there is something that company is doing very wrong. And with all the bad press they get about their QA, not to mention customer service or questionable choices like building in Hardware support for cheaters in this monitor, you think the Execs at ASUS would've been smarter by now but clearly its not a major concern for them, too bad for

Other Thoughts: Right off the bat, I wanted to love ASUS and this monitor. But their QA either is an industry low standard or is non-existent, period. Just the simple fact of opening two of these spaced out over a period of 1-2 months and seeing smudging or oil along the outer edges on the panel like it was like behind by a factory worker is unacceptable no matter how you look at it for a supposedly "Premium" high-priced monitor. The defects that have been consistent take it to another level. Thankfully, Newegg remains the best when it comes to handling their customers and make the process of returning a little less of a hassle.

Similar, I've just recently gone through over 5 ASUS IPS MX279H Displays and all had issues and defects that were similar in some ways but equally unacceptable. I'm starting a company right now and instead of being able to rely on ASUS products and stay productive, I'm returning their monitors weekly. It doesn't take much effort to see all the issues and defects others are having with a simple search and the typical ASUS response would be, you are only seeing the people with problems out there. Um, no... with having to go through over 7 of your displays and not having one I was happy with due to factory defects means you consistently are bad at giving consumers quality-tested products and I think 7 defective monitors in a row is enough experience to have that opinion and share it with others.

Also, they attempted to apparently build a special type of TN panel here and even though color reproduction is slightly better than average panels, the other inconsistencies make this thing fall behind many others. In most cases, prominent reviewers get "Review Samples" and these are usually checked and verified before they get them. So for the well-known reviews out there, they probably got a good one. For consumers, good luck... but as far as I'm concerned this panel is more inconsistent than most TN panels I've ever seen, bar none.

The only way I'd change my mind on this review is if an ASUS rep genuinely cared and expedited an RMA exchange, which they would pay the shipping on, and sent the new unit before I could return the defective one and would actually test the thing and make sure it comes working with no defects, then I'd be glad to change my mind and give them a better review as that shows they are going above and beyond for the customer, then again... it's ASUS we are talking about.

So to conclude, unless they step up to handle this professionally and compassionately, then my review stands and I'd never recommend any professional, let alone consumer for that matter to ever buy from ASUS... now and forever. Other G-Sync Displays like the new ACER 4K are coming in to take over and other brands with better tested quality is going to make this monitor obsolete quick if they don't improve the experience for future buyers. For the moment as it stands, I'd say, unless you want the stress, save your money and look at other, quality b

4 out of 5 eggsG-sync is amazing. Monitor is pretty good.

Pros: G-sync finally gets rid of one of the most annoying things that have plagued PC gaming for me, screen tearing and stuttering. It's a godsend. The monitor's 144Hz refresh rate and 1ms response time make gaming on it a silky smooth experience. It's great.

The resolution is also great. I'm not keen on 4k being practical yet.

Cons: Colors. Viewing angles. These are expected since it's a TN panel. That being said, I was gaming on a PLS 2560x1440 panel before this and the change in picture quality is rather large. It's less noticeable while you play a game, but still a pretty large difference. Colors just look washed out. This is after calibration. A TN panel won't come close to a PLS/IPS panel.

I initially had problems when running over 60Hz at 2560x1440. Every now and then it would give an out of range error and the only way to fix it would be to unplug it from my video card and then back in. This problem hasn't happened in a while. Maybe the newest nvidia driver fixed it.

Not sure if this is isolated to just this monitor as I've seen others with it on the rog swift forums and have heard some mention of being display port issues, but with my setup (this monitor primary, second same resolution and size monitor in portrait mode), whenever the PC wakes up from sleep mode the windows have all moved to the second monitor. In addition, the second monitor's bottom third becomes "corrupted" for lack of a better word. I have to quickly adjust Windows' project options to PC screen only, then back to Extend, and rearrange my windows. It's annoying. Also, the motherboard's post splash screen thing and Windows boot screen (everything up to the Windows login screen) gets put on my second monitor sideways. Makes navigating the UEFI annoying.

Lastly the price is high considering you can get this resolution PLS/IPS panels for cheaper.

Other Thoughts: I have two GTX 780 Tis in SLI and the monitor jives well with them for gaming.

The cons section is decently sized, the reason for still giving it a 4/5 is g-sync. It's that good. I don't see myself considering a monitor for purchase anymore that isn't g-sync (or some comparable technology) enabled.

5 out of 5 eggsNo complaints yet

Pros: 144Hz refresh rate is amazing especially if you're going from something like a 60Hz monitor. Side-by-side it makes my 60Hz display look choppy and almost broken.

Gsync works exactly as described and things are noticeably smoother with no input lag and or screen tearing. Hurray!

Windows desktop animations are also snappier and things feel more "crisp" due to that refresh rate.

No dead pixels for me and I've inspected the display carefully to find them.

Cons: Color representation is not quite on par with my Dell H-IPS panel, but It's really not that far off. Still giving it 5 stars.

Other Thoughts: Overall, not disappointed at all with this purchase. Yes, it's expensive, but it's the first 1440p available with 144Hz and Gsync. Believe me, once you use this monitor to game, you won't go back to a standard display.

5 out of 5 eggsBeautiful monitor

Pros: Absolutely gorgeous monitor & works wonders with G-sync if you have a Nvidia card. Jumped on it as soon as I saw it in stock and was happy to see no dead pixels upon arrival.
My real estate on my screen feels like it has almost doubled so if you're doing work it's almost just as good as having two separate monitors.
It's a solid & sturdy build with a great stand, no complaints.
When I jumped into some gaming I switched to the 1440p @ 144hz option, and woah I was blown away, almost had an eyegasm.
4k graphics aren't there yet so this is a reasonable jump if you want solid stable frame rates.
You will need a solid graphics card to pull this off by the way (currently have an ASUS GTX 980)
I can see why people see the con because it's a TN panel - but honestly it's meant for gaming and you're looking head on so it really shouldn't bother you unless you're the kind of person who needs to look at your monitor at some odd angles... TN panels also offer faster response times so there's a reason they went with it.

Cons: Price is the only one I can really think of.
Make sure you check the outlets it comes with, no HDMI on this beauty.

Other Thoughts: I'm just happy with the purchase overall, jumping from 1080p to 1440p with gsync and testing out Battlefield 4 for the first time was just an incredible eye opening experience.
Very happy with my two recent Asus purchases.
Just be sure your card can handle the 1440p though!

5 out of 5 eggsSo smooth

Pros: The build quality is top-notch. This monitor is very well constructed and looks fantastic. I wasn't sure I'd be a fan of the styling, but it really looks good, especially with that thin bezel. The specs are unmatched - it is the only G-Sync monitor at 1440p, and its the only 144hz monitor above 1080p that I know of.

It worked right away, and nvidia's drivers immediately detected and enabled G-Sync. The display controls are by far the easiest and most intuitive I have ever used, and calibrating it to my liking was a breeze. Zero dead pixels, and minimal backlight bleed. The color is not quite as diverse and doesn't pop like it did on my IPS panel, but it is really good for a TN.

This thing is so smooth. Even moving windows around on the desktop is noticeably crisp and smooth. G-Sync really is a thing of beauty. It is something that you have to experience yourself to realize what you've been missing.

The packaging was very solid, and I love the fact that it is ready to go right out of the box, no assembly required.

Cons: I'll mention here that when frames dip low enough, 30ish or less, it will still stutter with G-Sync.

Other Thoughts: I've been searching for a monitor for about a year, and after going through 3 different screens, I finally found one that satisfies. This is the best gaming monitor out there, hands down.

You will definitely need a top of the line video card to push 1440p and still get good frames on max settings in most of today's games. I have a 780ti, and while it performs great overall, there are a few titles that I can't quite max out and get >60 fps consistently.

I recommend you get monitor the driver from the product page on Asus's website. The turbo button did not actively change the refresh rate with the generic Windows 7 monitor driver.

The fact that so many reviews mention the cost as a con is laughable. If you bought it, then apparently the price wasn't too high. There is a strong demand for this monitor and a very limited supply. They could easily have charged more and still be sold out. If you buy it and then decide the value of the benefits are not worth what you paid, the current demand provides plenty of options to recoup...

3 out of 5 eggsGreat monitor, however...

Pros: 1440p
144hz
g-sync
ulmb

Cons: can't use g-sync with ulmb
price

Other Thoughts: Don't get my wrong, this is a great monitor, but it being the first of its kind doesn't justify the price. g-sync is great and all, but the average person won't tell the difference. in FPS, ulmb is better and so smooth. If you get this, do the UFO Motion test and you'll see why ulmb is a lot smoother than g-sync. I've got a gtx 980, so gsync is worthless since this card can handle anything and everything.

I'll be getting a 27" 144hz 1080p monitor instead and it's hundreds cheaper.

Gsync can wait, especially since it's first being displayed on a 1440p res.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Very crisp visuals with no noticable input lag. Colors seem as good as any of my other screens.

Cons: I need more processing power to drive all the added information this monitor can display.

Other Thoughts: I didn't really think through the increase in processing it takes to go from a normal HD screen at 60 hz to this one. I planned for a better graphics card but not for the added memory and processor speed I need. In games with large groups (100+) I find that my frame rate is capped by lack of processor power and memory. Still..not a bad problem to have..G-Sync makes the fluctuating frame rates (70-90hz) look fine. i5-3550 cpu at 3.30, 8 GB RAM, GTX 780 ti

5 out of 5 eggsupdate

Pros: This is a updated review, I still love this amazing monitor, works perfectly and the G-Sync is awesome.

Cons: Be careful cleaning the clean I wiped the cheap ASUS sticker right off lower bezel now my rig looks cheap and had to order another sticker, My Rig is 80% ASUS and for $800.00 I would of thought the chrome ASUS name plate would of been molded on the lower bezel no a cheap sticker.
