Concept to Creation

Precision to the Finest Detail

Envision bigger with 2560 x 1440 WQHD, packing four times the pixel density of 720p! New premium 16:9 wide-format PB258Q LED display with IPS panel affords 178° wide viewing angles for better productivity, opening extra multitasking space to fit more windows and projects on-screen. ASUS exclusive SplendidPlus Video Intelligence Technology, QuickFit Virtual Scale, and 100% sRGB fidelity ensure reality-defining color and image accuracy, giving you true “what you imagine is what you create” power. HDMI/MHL2.0, DisplayPort, and dual-link DVI support WQHD natively, accentuated by room-dominating audio via twin 2.5-Watt speakers. To help you stay naturally focused, ergonomic design includes tilt, swivel, pivot, and height adjustment, plus streamlined cabling that keeps clutter off your desktop. PB258Q’s edge-to-edge frameless design is ideal for seamless multi-display environment setup.

True-to-life Visuals

See Better and Wider

The PB258Q WQHD monitor features an IPS LED-backlit panel that provides 117 pixels per inch (PPI), resulting in high quality 2560 x 1440 visuals – equaling four times the resolution of standard 720p sets. It allows users to view greater image detail and do more with an onscreen footprint larger than that of standard displays.

The screen’s 117 PPI density means there are 117 RGB matrices within one inch. Generally, the more pixels a display has, the more lighting (or power) those pixels require to achieve the best visuals. However, with advanced LED backlighting on the PB258Q, power and energy savings are no longer compromised, while better visuals are assured.

Made for Work and Play

The ASUS PB258Q features IPS panel which provides an ultra-wide 178° viewing angle on both horizontal and vertical planes, thereby minimizing onscreen color shift even when viewed from extreme angles. With its WQHD display, you enjoy 77% more desktop space than a full HD screen to spread out your windows and palettes. It is also about 25% sharper than a generic 25” full HD display, delivering ultra-smooth visuals thanks to 5ms (GTG) response time. This ensures you get lag-free experiences in movies and gaming, with the latter looking more vivid, with all in-game details shown in true color. The ASUS PB258Q is undoubtedly your best choice for work and play.

3 out of 5 eggswatch out

Pros: its a monitor

Cons: I've purchased 6 ASUS monitors over the past few years. They have ALL died. Do like I do, no matter how good of a deal it looks, don't purchase ASUS monitors. (to be clear, I'm an ASUS fan, all my mother broads are ASUS... no problems with them... but their monitors are bad)

4 out of 5 eggsWorth it

Pros: Unbelievably crisp
Easy to rotate to portrait mode on the fly

Cons: Some quality control issues

Other Thoughts: I was lucky to grab this monitor on sale--I was unlucky that the first one I got had a weird bright spot in the middle. Not a dead pixel, a weird 1/2 inch spot that was brighter than everything around it. Never seen anything like it in a monitor before. I was able to RMA it, and the second one I got is flawless. Looks like a lot of stories of weird quality control issues in the reviews, so make sure yours is 100% before you trash the box.

The actual operation of the monitor itself is amazing. Gorgeous picture quality. Exceptionally crisp. Maybe the best feature is the stand, which allows you to convert it to portrait mode in seconds--literally with one hand. It's completely changed the way I work. If you can grab it on sale, or can wait for the price to come down, I would. If you need a good 2K monitor today, this is it.

1 out of 5 eggsAmazing design with bad quality control

Pros: frameless design
good color

Cons: -BAD BAD quality control, all the seven physical button only has one function, turn off the monitor, but I was told they are "settings for the monitor" all SEVEN buttons, I couldn't turn on the settings menu, I couldn't change the mode, because no matter how I push no matter which buttons on the monitor, they will turn off the monitor, or they will lock the button to disabled.

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsGood Monitors when on sale.

Pros: I bought 3 of these so this review is my thoughts on all of them together. I bought 2 on sale and one at full price.

Decent monitor for the price especially if you get it on sale like i did for the most part.
Color is nice and sharp
Unlike what alot of other reviews said mine didn't have alot of backlight bleed, mine didn't have hardly any at all on any monitor. there is 1 spot on 1 of the monitors but its not that bad.
More screen space
Very sturdy stand, when i say sturdy i mean really sturdy and doesnt move at all i if bump the desk. Very happy with it.
Able to tilt it portrait or horizontal.
Zero dead pixels on all 3 monitors.

Cons: Now on to the negatives.
Not trully bezel-less but at this price point what can you expect. not really a con but not a pro either. though i will say between 2 of these there is a half inch bezel all together between 2 monitors butted together.

Yes there was no back light bleed, but the brightness of this monitor is blinding. I have my brightness set to 20 and its still a bit bright.
The 170 degree viewing angle is a complete LIE. if your not staring straight at it from dead center your view is effected. If your off to one side even slightly the screen appears to have a grey tint and looks washed out. This can be a make it or break it for some people.
QC is utter garbage. Bottom bezel where it says asus is as wavy as the ocean. in some places its maybe a half mil from touching the screen and some places its 3 mils from the screen. it was like this on both monitors that i got on sale, but was a bit better on the full priced unit.
One of my screens appears to be missing some of the matte screen coating or its applied too thin. Two monitors are matte and doesnt reflect and the other is not. Its mostly matte but theres a few spots around the size of a quarter that reflects light just like a mirror. They almost look like smuges that dont come off.
Two of my monitors came in with the seal broken, i ordered new. maybe they broke in the mail but then again maybe not.

Other Thoughts: There are little to no other on brand 1440p monitors within the $265 price that i bought them for. So when i seen that these were on sale and in my budget i jumped on them. Im glad i did because literately a day later they were out of stock on other sites and newegg and other stores had them for huge markups. I bought 3 of them but the sale was for a max of 2. I had to buy another a few days later. knowing everything that i know about these monitors that i do now, would i buy them again. yes. They have QC issues, they dont have 170 degree viewing angles, they have a super bright screen, but that doesnt make these bad monitors. I Personally think at the $265 price that i paid for it, its a great deal, but not at the $320-350 that they are normally and that i paid for the last one. there are just too many QC problems on these to be that price. If you see them on sale however, pick them up because they go out of stock fast for a reason.

4 out of 5 eggsVery impressed except for little smudges which are in the middle of the screen

Pros: Color and viewing angles are great, as is the brightness

Cons: I've had it for about a week...maybe two...but I noticed when I had a completely white screen...there are two smudges/scrapes on the inside face of the monitor about in the middle of the screen. I've tried wiping them off but wish it would have gotten caught in QA.

And I'm not sure how to do the rapid replacement of the monitor.

Other Thoughts: I would definitely look closely at the screen when you first get it.

5 out of 5 eggsExactly what I wanted

Pros: Zero dead pixels and no noticeable backlight bleed out of the box
Easy to assemble and very sturdy stand
Good range of presets for color balance
Stand seems very sturdy with easy height, tilt and swivel adjustment

Cons: Slow on-screen menu, takes lots of clicks to get anywhere (I'm not docking an egg because it doesn't affect my daily use of it)

Other Thoughts: This is my first time with an IPS panel, and let me tell you, I don't think I could ever go back. These colors are beautiful and the image is nice and sharp thanks to the high resolution.
I'm not sure whether I will ever find it useful, but the ruler marks along the bottom bezel of this monitor are a bit odd. I get their purpose, but I have a hard time believing there is enough market for a feature like that.
Right out of the box I turned the brightness down to 50% and switched it to Gaming mode for color balance, it was amazingly bright out of the box even at only 75%, and I like the Gaming balance better than the default, but your mileage may vary. I was also noticing some eye strain part way through the first day as I spend a lot of time at my computer, but after turning on the blue light filter setting, I haven't had any issues.
My only warning is about the size. This monitor is fairly small as 1440p displays go, but after getting it set up on my desk, I noticed that thanks to the large base and large display (my old one was 21") it now feels almost uncomfortably close if I sit how I used to. Over the last week I have noticed myself leaning back in my chair much more.

5 out of 5 eggsBest monitor I've ever owned

Pros: Everything looks crisper and clearer
Used to think my favorite game had mediocre graphics even at maximum settings with my old monitor (1680x1050 resolution)
now seeing it at 2560x1440 it's obvious what I was missing.

Was on sale when I bought it.

Cons: none

2 out of 5 eggsDirt inside the layers of the screen

Pros: -Little to no backlight bleed on this specific unit.
-Colors look great.
-Stand is sturdy like my PB278Q

Cons: About 5 specks of dirt in the middle of the screen

Other Thoughts: I am hesitant whether to return this monitor or not. While there is no backlight bleed, I have five specks of dirt in the middle of the screen. They aren't dead pixels which some people may be referring to the as, but it's just as bad. On a side note my PB278Q also had this problem but it was around the edges of the screen, not in the main viewing area.

4 out of 5 eggsSweet Monitor!

Pros: I had a 19 inch 1600x1050 View Sonic and this is a major upgrade from that. Text is crisp and easy to read, games look great. I have a GTX970 and it can play latest titles at this resolution. Although some games max out the 4 gig of ram and utilize 100% of the GPU to get 60 FPS. Stand is very sturdy. I know that may sound minor but a monitor that shakes every time you bump you desk sucks.

Cons: There is a measuring scale across the bottom of the screen as the monitor has a true to life mode but the scale is in metric, I will probably never use that feature anyways. Can't somebody make a monitor for a descent price that has descent speakers built in. They may as well not put any in.

Other Thoughts: My dad just got a 28 inch 1920x1080 and at that size and resolution it does not look very nice, do yourself a favor and get at least 2k for anything bigger than 20 inch and smaller then 30 inch. I picked this one up on one of Newegg's one day sale for $264 that really sweetened the deal, should have gotten two.
