5 out of 5 eggsEverything I wanted, nothing I didn't

Pros: -Beautiful picture quality
-So much screen real estate!
-Quality of the build is fantastic
-ZERO dead pixels
-Extremely minimal "IPS" glow in the lower right corner. Honestly I only notice it if I'm sitting the dark with a blank black image on the monitor (or a "blank" screen saver). I've never noticed it when playing games, watching movies, etc...
-Menu system is the best I've seen so far in a monitor

Cons: -It wasn't free
-I'm not the hugest fan of the whole stand moving when you pivot the monitor left or right on your desk. The stand is big, and you can't have anything on your desk anywhere near it if you ever plan on wanting to move your monitor left or right. Not worth removing an egg, just a minor annoyance.
-Would have liked to see more than 2 USB 3.0 ports. I mean, you're using up one port on your PC, and only gaining 2 on the monitor. And they're not exactly super easily accessible. Barely seems worth it. If I didn't have peripherals that didn't quite reach my PC I wouldn't bother using them.

Overall, I would maybe remove not-even half a star for ALL of these cons put together. Unless these minor quibbles are deal-breakers for you, then you should buy this monitor!

Other Thoughts: Disclaimer: I have an EVGA GTX 970 FTW+ so I do not use the Free-Sync feature of this monitor. However, with it set at 144hz refresh rate, and regularly achieving FPS between 60 and 120, I can definitely feel the smoothness. I am not a competitive gamer.

Other Thoughts: I would definitely recommend this monitor!

4 out of 5 eggsI like it

Pros: Great size
great resolution
I like the freesync feature
the setup was almost too easy. The stand just pops on and has a twist tight at the bottom.
Vesa mount.
speakers
Lots of ports, and i like the USB hub

Cons: Mine does have a couple dead pixels on the left side a sixth of the way up the screen.

Other Thoughts: I don't personally see the need to return the monitor for so few dead pixels. In this case they are black, it really looks like dust on the screen to me. If my situation gets worse for dead pixels over time ill make sure to update and let everyone know.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing!

Pros: -144hz- This is a game changer. 144hz is awesome, and the reason I upgraded. BF4/CSGO look great with the high frames. I honestly feel that it has improved my game.

-Build Quality- Heavy and high quality build . The base is nice and wide. Its stable and doesn't allow random movement of the screen when typing or moving your desk.

-IPS- Colors look great. The change from a TN panel wasn't as drastic as I was expecting, but I honestly can't complain. Blacks are definitely more ink like.

-1440p- Really great resolution. I was worried about text being too small, but everything looks great. I run a 290x and it handles 1440p with no problem. Gotta turn down some AA once in a while though.

-Freesync- I wasn't looking for a freesync monitor, but I'm glad I have the option if I decide to use it. It definitely works, but it only has a range from 35hz to 90hz. Not sure why they would limit it like that. I honestly try to keep the frames as close to 144 as I can though. This will come in handy when the old 290x starts chuggin' and my frames stay in that range I suppose.

-27" screen- 1440p + 27 inch screen = Win

-UI- I love ASUS's UI and the placement of the monitor buttons. The small red joystick makes it easy to move around and select what you want. Don't see how it could get better than this.

Cons: -Price. This thing is just too dang expensive. I waited for it to drop in price, but still. You do get what you pay for though.

-Freesync range- I seriously don't understand why they would limit the top range of freesync. Gsync goes all the way to 144hz. Why can't Freesync? All Freesync monitors have this range problem though, so its not just against this monitor.

Other Thoughts: I know a lot of people have had some QA issues with this panel. I'll be honest, I was hesitant because of this. Fortunately, mine came perfect. No dead pixels. Very slight IPS glow in the lower right corner that I can never see unless there are no lights on in the house. This screen is amazing and I'm very happy with it. Glad I took the chance and got this thing.

5 out of 5 eggsGame Changer

Pros: Very Quick, I cannot perceive any input lag. Went from the middle of the leader boards to the top of the boards with the switch to this monitor.
Colors are very good( Not quite as good as my former Dell U2711)
Very easy to setup
It came with an HDMI cable and a Display Port cable!
Pretty light compared to older UPS monitors

Cons: Nothing Really, I haven't been able to out the freesync so I cannot speak for that capability

Other Thoughts: I would highly recommend if you are looking for a 144hz IPS monitor to pick this up. I got it for the Free sync also but will have to wait until AMD release their next gen GPU's. The colors are really good, not professional quality but good nonetheless

3 out of 5 eggsLast Asus monitor I buy

Pros: - Good color reproduction
- High refresh rate/low response time
- Stand feels sturdy
- Included cables
- Menu navigation a breeze

Cons: - My first arrived with an unacceptable amount of dead pixels. Currently in the process of an RMA. I'm not hopeful for the second monitor since the first had so many dead pixels.
- Backlight bleed was expected to a degree (IPS and thin bezel) but the lower right portion of the panel had it so bad it affected color reproduction/image quality.

Other Thoughts: I would not recommend this product or any other Asus monitors moving forward. I simply don't have time to play the RMA lottery with a monitor I paid upwards of $500 for. I understand that it is impossible for every product to be perfect. My problem is the fact that Asus let one slip through QC that was as bad as mine. Acer and BenQ, you're up.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Terry,

1 out of 5 eggsthe worst quality control I have ever seen...

Pros: in theory a great monitor...

Cons: where to start? first off the quality control is horrible...

-the monitor has to two bubbles at the top of the screen
-the actual panel does not line up with the bezel of the plastic...anyone who has one should look closely in the sunlight and you will discover that your panel is off by a lot..
-awful light bleed all over the screen i have no idea how such a poor product could pass quality control if asus really has one.

i understand not everything is perfect however when you charge a premium for these monitors you should be able to back up what your selling...many companies would never stamp there name on this...if asus wants to charge big brand prices than asus better up there quality control department like i said if they have one...they have a lot to learn from samsung dell and apple just to name a few...
i will gladly upload photos if someone could tell me how...

Other Thoughts: just to be fair i also bought a MG278Q because like most of you i had a hard time choosing...unfortunately that the quality control department was out to lunch for that monitor too...i will post a review for that one under that product number..

5 out of 5 eggsCouldn't ask for more from a monitor that fit my EXACT needs!

Pros: If you are upgrading from anything less than 27" you'll be very surprised at exactly how big 27" at 2560x1440 really is....and it is glorious having that resolution at this size. Just perfect. I upgraded from an almost 10 year old Gateway FHD2400 24" IPS 1920x1200 monitor. That monitor served very well for many years.

Pros: Free-Sync - Seriously, don't buy a ~$500 monitor to game at 144 Hz, that just makes no sense unless you really like CS. The free-sync range on this is great at 35-90fps. You really can't ask for a better range. With that being said. If you are buying a monitor this expensive I would recommend having at least an AMD R9 390, unless you value resolution over in game settings. With a 390 I can play games still at Very-High Ultra with silky smooth gameplay with free-sync enabled. With 14nm cards around the corner this monitor *crosses fingers* will last you a few generation of video cards easy. If you have a nvidia card...I would just be confused as to why you would want this...

IPS panel looks great. Fantastic viewing range and looks perfect head-on...which it should, but still.

Cons: It looks a little more washed out than my previous Gateway FHD2400, but that monitor had a high gloss finish and a little bit higher brightness which I think helped. I think that will change as I play around with the settings and color calibration more. The FPS setting was the best "Game Visual" setting out of the box.

Other Thoughts: The reason I decided to write this review is there are a lot of reviews talking about dead pixels, or QA/QC issues. I ordered this on Thursday at 5a with Egg Saver $.99 shipping for $479. It arrived on Saturday at 10:30a. The monitor has no noticeable blacklight bleed, and not a single dead pixel. Maybe, just maybe I got lucky, but I would chalk it up to a few lemons when in fact this is a FANTASTIC monitor. I have never been so pleased with buying a piece of computer related technology in my life. I had very high/nervous expectations and it met them all and more. So if you are on the fence because of the reviews, don't be. Everyone gets a bad part every once in a while, I guarantee most of the people with a perfectly good monitor are too busy using it and not writing reviews about a horrible experience. I'm extremely glad I bit the bullet and bought it. Cheers!

2 out of 5 eggsGreat monitor which suffers from terrible back light bleeding, hopefully the next one is better.

Pros: -144hz non-freesync ran amazingly well on my machine.
-The monitor itself looks great, light, and seems very well put together.
-The adjustable height and angle swivel are are and work without fuss.
-Picture Quality looks great.
-Was able to achieve proper Freesync range of 35 to 90hz after a simple adjustment in windows.
-Menu's are easy enough to navigate and the joystick nub is a nice to navigate with.

Cons: -Terrible Backlight bleed around 3 of the 4 corners, the Lower right corner being the worst, bleeds to about 15% coverage of the lower right screen.

-Adjusted settings and tried multiple times to just try and "ignore" it, because I know the RMA process will just end up being a nightmare of wasted time with a new monitor just being another "gamble" since I've heard a large number of these monitors are having these issues. But for the price point we are paying, this should not be something we sit back and accept.

-Playing games which are plentiful in dark areas and corridors, load screens and the like just aggravates the issue and really distracts from the enjoyment of the visual. It's too bad too, otherwise I would say it's a great monitor.

-Requested and RMA through new egg and will be dropping it off at will call soon enough. Hopefully the next monitor wont be as terrible, I'm willing to deal with some "slight" bleeding, but this was just too much and when it affects how a game looks visually, then what's the point of having paid $500+ for a monitor when it cant even do it's basic job of displaying images properly.

4 out of 5 eggsDon't listen to the nasayers. If you can aford it, it's worth it.

Pros: Color. Right away the color was more vibrant than my previous ASUS monitor (TN panel instead of IPS). Granted my old monitor was almost 10 years old... but still. The image is crisp and clear. It only took a minimal amount of calibration to get the colors where I want them. No dead or stuck pixels. I can actually see better in games now and I trust my on-screen colors in photoshop a lot more. I mean, what more can I say... it does everything a monitor with its specs should do.

Cons: I am rather disappointed with ASUS and their advertising claims here on Newegg. Because I actually understand the technology and how it works I knew before I even placed the order that their claims about having 77% more onscreen space were incorrect. Neither a larger physical screen nor a higher resolution will result in you having a wider angle of view in games. It might apply to desktop apps... but really that just means everything will be 33% smaller on your screen... and that assumes windows 8+ doesn't automatically compensate to keep icons and text from being too small to read (they are rather tiny otherwise).

Regardless, this is _not_ a feature this monitor (or any other, since your monitor has no relationship to this at all) offers. So despite the monitor hitting every single tick mark and being pretty much flawless across the board... I'm removing one egg for this misleading advertising.

Other Thoughts: Other notes, before sending the monitor back over dead or stuck pixels, give it two days. Often these are side effects of shipping conditions and will clear up on their own within a day or two.

Also when looking to see if the color is different a youtube video or a family photo is completely inadequate. You need to make sure your _source_ contains enough minute color variations that the difference between your old monitor and new would be noticeable. Odds are you don't have anything that will actually work for that... few people do.

More realistically, look up the _professional_ reviews online where the monitor was tested objectively by trained technicians using specialized gear. According to them, where color is concerned, this monitor repeatedly knocks on the door of professional-grade computer monitors that cost 3-4 times as much.
