5 out of 5 eggsawesome

Pros: Great overall projector. Even during the day with the blinds open and the lights on you can still see the picture. I have mine projecting onto the wall and it looks awesome.

Cons: None so far, I have had this projector for a week and have put 30 hours on it with out any problems. Also, it is a little loud on high alt setting, I live in Colorado, but when you turn on the surround sound you do not notice it.

Other Thoughts: Like I said i have mine projecting on the wall, I smoothed out the texture and painted it with bahr silver screen, $15 for a pint at Home Depot, then out lined the screen area with some trim. At 1080p it looks as if we installed a T.V. in the wall.

5 out of 5 eggsVivitek H1080FD DLP Projector

Pros: Excellent Definition, focus ring, design. No issues with contrast. Great settings software.

Cons: No lens cap. Somewhat incomplete height adjustment legs (You can only adjust the left side height) .

Other Thoughts: Pleased with purchase overall.. The lens cap thing really irritates me. I guess this is what you get for $850.

2 out of 5 eggsFine if you don't live over 4900ft

Pros: Superb picture/contrast/color quality right out of the box. Super quiet with High Alt Mode off.

Cons: If you live over 4900ft you are supposed to use High Altitude Mode to help keep the lamp cool in the thinner air.

High Alt turns the unit from a whisper quiet delight to a loud and annoying disturbance. I wouldn't consider the fan noise in high as tolerable or acceptable. I had it ceiling mounted in my living room just like my past three projectors have been. In high alt mode this unit is far louder than any of my other units have been.

I can't imagine anyone would enjoy watching a movie when it sounds like someone vacuuming in the other room.

Other Thoughts: After about 4 hours on the bulb, it started shutting off the picture, kicking the fan to high, and LED started blinking error codes. After 4th shutdown in a row, each after about 10-15 min of viewing. I issued an RMA. This could have been a faulty unit, perhaps it overheated due to me refusing to turn High Alt Mode on, who knows.

If you live at low alt and your unit isn't defective, then this would probably be a wonderful unit.... I'm going with the Optoma HD20 which has a bit more of a track record for good performance under $1k. Plus there's no way it could be any louder than this one...

5 out of 5 eggsVivitek H1080FD = AWESOME!

Pros: Amazing projector. Quiet. SUPER QUIET. Wonderful picture. I have this set up about 14 feet from my wall and have no screen. Just a white wall. Colors are phenomenal. Some people have mentioned rainbow effects. I haven't seen a one. Colors are decent even in light. The only thing that sticks out are the dark colors when it is bright. I can see the lumpy textures in my apartment walls. When it is dark I can't see anything but the most amazing picture I have ever seen. I should mention that from 14 feet away I have roughly a 12 foot screen. Friends and ladies love it.

Cons: It gets warm, but what projector doesn't. Lens gathers dust really fast. Doesn't affect the picture at all.

-3000 hour bulb life...Not as awesome as a T.V. but even with the bulbs costing $350+ you have to think about the fact that you will never buy a 12 foot T.V. So even if you had to buy a bulb EVERY year consider that you will dominate a 60 inch t.v. that costs 2-3k T.V.

Just turn it off when you aren't using it unless your going to turn it off for 5 minutes. Its not worth it.

Other Thoughts: The 1080p is SO worth it. The Blu-Ray movies are so freaking amazing. I don't even goto movie theaters anymore. It's cheaper to stay home and watch the awesome movie at my house with my wife or friends and we can chat it up as loud as we want.
