2 out of 5 eggsUnusable for me

Pros: Good price for the size. Colors were supposedly good.

Cons: The monitor is practically unusable due to the anti glare coating which makes the entire monitor sparkle. I was coming from a glossy monitor, so it was just unbearable, especially with small text. Some people don't see this, but it was so bad for me I had to return it.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy if you like glossy smooth images and text. Buy if you like rainbow sprinkles.

5 out of 5 eggsGorgeous.

Pros: I bought this monitor for photographic editing. It has been a sizable step up from the $150-$300 monitors I've used in the past.

I couldn't really justify a $1000 plus spend on my hobby, but as the price of this monitor has been dropping (I picked mine up for $773) I decided to pull the trigger.

Build quality is excellent. Zero defects. Interface is through touch-sensitive "studs" along the lower right side of the monitor. These are responsive, and setup was intuitive.

The monitor does exactly what I wanted it to do. It has way more functionality than I need (I'll never use its card-reader and it will be rarely out of Adobe RGB mode). The bells and whistles are a nice touch though, and its always pleasant to buy something that turns out to be better than you expected.

Cons: None.
Does exactly what Dell says it does.

Other Thoughts: I bought this monitor for a specialized task, at which it excels. There were absolutely no issues, delivery was swift and the screen arrived in flawless condition.

Plenty of bucks, but a lot of bang for them.
Very happy with this monitor.

5 out of 5 eggsIncredible

Pros: The picture quality will leave you speechless. Going from 1080p to 2560x1440 is a game changer. You have to experience it first hand to realize just how much you have been missing out while gaming on a 1080p monitor.

Playing Crysis 3 maxed out @ 2560x1440 is truly a sight to behold.

Cons: Nothing

Other Thoughts: I see some people complaining about the price, but if you are in the market for a monitor like this, price really shouldn't be a concern. You knew what you were getting into.

Make sure you have a system powerful enough that can handle the resolution.

My rig

17 3770k @ 4.9ghz
EVGA GTX 680 FTW Edition @1254/stock memory
Kingston Hyper X 240 GB SSD
Two TB WD Caviar Black in Raid 0
32 gigs of Corsair Vengeance Ram

This rig has no problem utilizing the full potential of the Dell U2711.

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome but not chic

Pros: -High Resolution is great for multitasking
-Colors are rich and stand out
-Gaming preset mode really makes games look better

Cons: -Anti-glare coating leaves rainbow pixelation on white backgrounds. It takes some getting used to.

Other Thoughts: This monitor is a professional monitor. It is thick. It is solid. It is a brute by all accounts. If you're looking for something slim and sexy, look at Dell's S series. Their aesthetics are easier on the eyes and most models have an IPS panel which still gives you a beautiful display for casual computer tasks.

If you find a good deal on this monitor, take it. You won't be disappointed. If it wasn't for the antiglare coating, this monitor would be a perfect 10 (or in this case a perfect 5 eggs).

5 out of 5 eggsSimply the B-E-S-T!!!

Pros: 1. wide color gamut
2. anti-glare coating
3. user-friendly controls/options/menu
4. multiple inputs including DisplayPort
5. height adjustable
6. IPS type LCD panel
7. 2560 x 1440 resolution (capable of upscaling 1080P to 1440P properly)
8. 3 year warranty

Cons: 1. cost (no eggs deducted) just wishful thinking
2. response time - VERY MINOR ghosting

If you are a person who notices the smallest of video defects which I do, then you might see it. I noticed it but it is so minor that it does not detract from my gaming experience. Most people who have viewed my monitor don't see any ghosting at all. But once again, it all depends on how sensitive your eyes are to video defects.

NOTE: You need to use the DisplayPort connection to maximize this monitor's potential. If you don't have DisplayPort, I would HIGHLY recommend you upgrade to a video card which supports it.

Other Thoughts: I can't say enough good things about this monitor. I was a little worried when I purchased it because of some people's comments regarding the anti-glare coating. However, I don't have any issues with it or notice any image defects from it. This monitor is the sweet spot for the size to price to resolution ratio. If you want a larger monitor, you are venturing into the price range of buying an HDTV. Most 27" monitors are 1920 x 1200 or 1920 x 1080 resolution but this one is capable of 2560 x 1440 resolution. What this means is you can get more space for your desktop and viewable area. Most importantly, HD content will look better if you have upscaling playback software. The resolution of this monitor scales HD content almost perfectly since it has the proper aspect ratio ([1920 x 1.333... = ~ 2560] & [1080 x 1.333... = ~ 1440]). The next step up in resolution which is 2560 x 1600 does not scale properly at its native resolution for widescreen movies since it has a different aspect ratio. Of course games will also look better when played at the higher resolution. You can power this monitor with an Nvidia 690 so that games will maintain high frame rates even at 2560 x 1440. If you purchase a 30" monitor which will be 2560 x 1600, your fps will start to impact your gaming experience even with an Nvidia 690. But to put it plainly, everything including games, images, video, etc. just look better on this monitor than anything else I have ever seen in person. The first time I watched Avatar at 1440P resolution, I was amazed by the clarity! The only minor issue is the response time. It will display some very minor ghosting when gaming if you are someone who notices the smallest of video defects. I can see it but it is so little that it doesn't bother me or take away from the experience. Lastly, I should state that I do have the older Dell 2709W as well. For the sake of comparison, I want to say that while the 2709W was a great monitor, the U2711 is a HUGE improvement!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Monitor

Pros: Great Size, Great Screen resolution! I love this monitor and haven't had any issues at all with it.

Cons: It's not the huge stark visual difference over 1080P that it is made out to be. Yes the picture is better but not at the point where it has significantly changed my experience when gaming.

5 out of 5 eggsUltra Sharp

Pros: After reviewing many monitors I had no choice but to buy this one. It was true to it's name "Ultra Sharp". I have never seen colors like this displays. It was prefect out of the box. My friends wondered why I upgraded from 24" to this 27". Well, if they don't know 3" can make a big difference, they should ask their girl friends.

Cons: I got hell from my wife for buying it, until I told her I bought it on a one day sale at $300.00 off.

Other Thoughts: I should have bought 2.

5 out of 5 eggsIt's The Best

Pros: The stand is rock-solid, the image quality is best in class. It is worth reading about various benchmarks of its and other monitors' coverage of Adobe RGB. The touch-buttons actually work very well. The UI is surprisingly easy to use. The USB ports work well. The card reader is iffy.

Cons: It is expensive and very heavy. It is a huge PITA to transport. Keep the box and styrofoam in which it comes. There is no other way to safely transport this beast. It also performs best at 50% brightness or above, which can cause eyestrain in a dark room. Turn some lights on; the screen reflects very little glare. None of these issues would cause me to recommend a different monitor.

Other Thoughts: I use this primarily for photo editing and graphic design, for which it is a dream. If you do not print photos ever, you may not need this screen, since it's main advantage over similar models is its accurate representation of Adobe RGB 1998, a gamut of which other monitors can only display 60-75%. I've spent more time playing BF3 on this than I'd care to admit. Part of the reason I love the game so much is that it looks so good on this monitor. You don't even need a side-by-side comparison between the U2711 and a 1080p TFT monitor to tell that U2711 image quality is an entirely different ballgame (although I did a side-by-side comparison and it made the unnamed 24" 1920x1080 monitor look ugly). I have noticed no differences or disadvantages in screen response times (a disadvantage of IPS) while gaming, although you can see ghosting.
