5 out of 5 eggsGreat monitor, great value

Pros: See Other thoughts section for a little background on my upgrade to this monitor.

The set up: Looking at monitors I see a lot of things in reviews and specs about the stand but until setting this thing up I don’t think I appreciated the value of a quality monitor stand. It may sound weird to be so enthusiastic but the stand on this thing is AWESOME. It slides vertically about 10” and just sticks in place where you leave it, no knobs or loose fittings. It also rotates horizontally about 140 degrees (this is a guess I did not measure), which is really nice. Again the movement is solid and it sticks in place where you leave it. Lastly the stand has a good weight to it, is hefty and not cheap feeling at all. No tools needed to assemble, it all just slides together and latches in. I love the stand, and never thought I would say that.

The monitor itself also has a very nice quality feel to it. The buttons for the menu are laid out more logically than I've seen other monitors have, and the connectors all feel very solid. There are all the standard video connectors, including displayport if you want to go in that direction which is a nice touch. It has a built in USB hub with 4 connections, so if you want to plug your keyboard/mouse/thumbdrive right in you have that option which is great. Lastly it takes a standard IEC power plug (like your PSU on your computer) and doesn't have an external brick for power, which I like as it reduces clutter.

In action: I do occasional photo/video work at home so getting the color set up properly was important. The menu on the monitor itself is probably the best I have used, and I can navigate through settings easily and without trouble which I definitely cannot say about a lot of others. I used a professional calibration device to get ambient light readings and color settings, and once I got the brightness/contrast dialed in (60 and 55 if you care) the software didn't need to change the color profile at all. For a monitor of this price to have such accurate color out of the box is a really great value.

The viewing angles are great, a big improvement over other monitors I've used in the past. I can stand up and work without moving the monitor if I want to (although the great stand makes moving it easy). This is huge to me and again a great value for this price. In gaming I see no ghosting or any kind of artifacting on fast moving objects, and video playback is crisp as well.

In summary, this is a great monitor and a great value. I may try to pick a couple up for my office at work so I can enjoy the same quality there. Great color, viewing angles, no ghosting or artifacting, and the best stand I have used make this an easy recommendation and a no hesitation 5 eggs.

Cons: It's tough to find cons as this is a great monitor.

I guess if you love using HDMI the lack of that port might be a con, but to be fair the DVI and display port make up for that. It even has VGA although it would be a total waste to use analogue video on a monitor this nice.

It's also a little heavy so if you are disabled or elderly you might have trouble putting it together, but I don't think anyone else would. I am really reaching for cons here so please don't think this is much of an issue.

Other Thoughts: Background: I am a frugal person, to put it nicely. I had been using a pretty old Samsung 21.5” monitor for about 5 years and even though it wasn't top of the line it was good enough for me. I do the standard web surfing, a good amount of gaming, and a little photo/video work at home. After using some larger monitors at work I was thinking it would be nice to upgrade, and when I got a scratch on the monitor moving some stuff around it was finally time and I knew that the black friday sales would be a good chance for a deal.

So when I saw an Ultrasharp with a great price on my favorite reseller I jumped at it. Why?

1 - It’s an Ultrasharp, and although it’s not a high end one I've used others in the past and know they look great.
2 - The 24” screen is a very good size for my desk and seating situation.
3 - IPS panel with low latency. In short this means great colors and viewing angle without ghosting or other issues during fast moving stuff like gaming or videos.

Check out the Pros section above for more detail, but I am incredibly happy with this monitor. A nice monitor for your computer is like a nice seat for your bicycle, once you get a good one you will never want to go back to a cheap one because it improves your whole experience.

4 out of 5 eggsSecond one not quite as good as the first

Pros: Best monitor stand/cable management
Sharp picture

Cons: No HDMI
Rev. A01 has yellow hue when next to Rev. A00

Other Thoughts: I purchased a second one about a year after I bought the first one. The most recent one that shipped had a slight yellow hue right out of the box. Some color correction mitigated most of it, but I couldn't seem to get it perfect. I'm not doing graphic design work or anything so it's fine for my use.

5 out of 5 eggsExcelleent Monitor and Service

Pros: This is an excellent monitor.

There were 2 pieces to assemble (monitor and stand). No tools were required. You just snap them together.

Everything was included in the box. A printed sheet in many languages was included explaining how to put it together and attach it to the PC.

Windows 7 Pro 64-bit with nVidia GeForce GTX 660 adapter recognized it during the boot process and immediately assigned it the maximum resolution possible (1920 X 1200).

This replaced a 19" monitor that was about 9 years old.

It was actually delivered before the quoted date.

Cons: None.

4 out of 5 eggsOrdered 3

Pros: Good monitor, huge difference compared to my old Acer TN Gaming monitor.
Good viewing angles.
Good color reproduction.

Cons: A01, the infamous bad batch.
All 3 are A01 monitors.
TBH, I don't see the yellowish white that people are talking about.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty great when calibrated

Pros: A bit bright out of the box and punchy with the colors but if you calibrate it using an external sensor it dials in pretty nicely. Only flaws would be expected from this tech, not kuro like black levels, off axis brightness drops but colors stay pretty even, and perhaps the most annoying is a screen pattern sometimes visible especially on pure white from off axis.. Like a mesh of little diamonds. Overall though can't beat it for $300 bucks. Coming from an old Dell 2405fpw this was a good upgrade with same form factor. A bit sharper than the old dell also.

Cons: Diamond mesh screen visible sometimes off axis with pure white

5 out of 5 eggs2nd as good as the 1st

Pros: Price, resolution, size, specialized soundbar available.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This is my 2nd U2412M. I bought my 1st (from Newegg) in July'13. I am so happy with the unit that I have kept an eye on sales looking for a cannot-refuse Deal so that I can have a back-up on hand. This past Black Friday I saw that Newegg had them listed for $218/delivered ... SOLD! :)

5 out of 5 eggsAdding a third to complete my display group.

Pros: -High quality (no dead pixels)
-1920x1200 resolution-seems small but it makes such a large difference.
-Colors come well adjusted, a bit of tweaking to get multiple panels very close.
-IPS panels
-Quality Stands
-Quality construction

Cons: -Older panels
-Large bezels

Other Thoughts: I have two of these for my home desktop for several years now. My video card is giving up the ghost so it was time to upgrade, decided it was time to add a third in surround. I have had excellent luck with these for quite awhile now. I am going with a third to ensure they are all the same (the new version of this monitor is just 1080p resolution as well). I run my monitors portrait and the stands that come with the monitors are quite useful in ensuring they are all perfectly lined up.

3 out of 5 eggsPoor color

Pros: Came from New egg. Light, good build.

Cons: I received a Rev 01 model. The white has a yellow tinge. Doesn't look great at all. I want to return it.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat monitor

Pros: Great stand
display port
usb hub integrated

Cons: only usb 2.0
requires a little adjusting as settings out of box are not good
not 1440p

Other Thoughts: I really like this monitor. I was very close to getting a cheap 1440p monitor but was decided on this because most of them had glossy displays, only DVI connector, wobbly stands with only tilt function, and cheap housings. This monitor is real nice construction and the stand is awesome, no more wobbly stand!
