5 out of 5 eggsGreat monitor

Pros: This monitor is fantastic, the bezel is thin, great 1080p display and it is IPS after all. No problems with it what so ever and it has a 7ms response time which I can't really see a difference. It's a very nice clear monitor and it is a glass panel so be sure to not be around a light source. I got it for 109 and it is WELL worth it. I've been waiting for a while to get a monitor, especially an IPS and I'm glad I stumbled upon this one in neweggs news letter. I don't necessarily think it's worth the 200 but around 140 most definitely.

Cons: No cons that I can think of. The buttons on the side aren't a hassle for me, easy navigation, just use your 4 fingers, it isn't a bothersome as some put it. The stand is nice, no wobbling as I tend to be careful around my rig.

Other Thoughts: Luckily I had an extra DVI cable to use. This doesn't come with one. They're only about 8$ anyway.

3 out of 5 eggsDell S2240M Nice but..with issues

Pros: I like this monitor the glossy screen like imac
but other user find glossy a disadvantage,
-it's thin slim monitor
-I like the fine color

Cons: I'm glad I found the issue earlier where it is still covered by
a limited return warranty.
Researched about this model that it has an internal issue
with this kind of model,
the issue was the monitor just Turn Off/ON in seconds
and back again. if you encounter this issue, return it asap

Other Thoughts: I hate to return this monitor coz I like it but sad to say
I have to return it.. looking for a new brand keeping
away with this model.

I always trust Dell but this time dell must address this issue

5 out of 5 eggsHDMI, no problem.

Pros: Great back light, nice color control, glossy screen lets the colors pop.

Controls are simple and easy to get to - the buttons are on the side and out of the way. The power LED is a very muted white or slightly blue LED in the lower left corner that you forget about unless the entire room is dark and the screen goes black - then it does exactly what you need it to do, tells you the screen is on or in sleep mode (orange). It's one of those things that you really don't need to have illuminating your desk.

The base is small and doesn't take much realestate. It's flat on top so its still useful space. I wish more monitors respected my desk like this one does.

Cons: Some may not like the glossy screen due to glare from light sources in their environment - don't buy a glossy screen if you work with daylight windows behind you or have lights you can't turn off or move (office) that are positioned in a way to cause glare. The lack of an HDMI port is easily fixed.

Other Thoughts: HDMI to DVI cables exist and working great - cheap on NewEgg and other placed. If you can't survive with an HDMI cable - this monitor is still an option.

Calibrate your computer to get the most out of this monitor. Mac and Windows both have very easy to use color calibration utilities built in - USE THEM. This monitor can display beautiful images if you let it.

4 out of 5 eggsDell S2240M

Pros: I bought this Dell coz I want to try IPS monitor, so far
like the design and its slim, planning to buy an apple
monitor but its very expensive, but this monitor is closer
the screen look similar with MacBook.

So here are the pros:
-I like the glossy screen but others may not like it
-the Menu is aligned to the buttons at the side of the
monitor is a plus rather than its located in the center of
the screen of most monitors.
-Color is fine don't have issue with it.
-its slim and thin bezel is a plus
-DVI port is a plus
-comes with VGA cable but no HDMI cable

Cons: -No VESA wall mount but there are option where you can
buy a particular mount that will connect just like a monitor
-A glossy screen may be a disadvantage of some users
because of the reflections, just make sure the monitor is
not facing the window or any lighting in the front of the
monitor to avoid reflection issues.
-Menu buttons are Push type switches so the more you
use it there is a possibility that the button will get stuck
and you will have a problem adjusting the settings.
(Use the software that comes with the monitor to be
able to adjust the settings without pushing the buttons)
-Monitor level is just too low and the height cannot be
adjusted but its not an issue for me.
-No HDMI but not an issue a long as it has a DVI

Other Thoughts: -its could be better is the menu button is touch panel
-and HDMI port would be great
-Height adjustment could be better
-VESA mount is not a complicated option to put in this
monitor but the designer may forgot to put it in the mold

I encounter that my monitor just turn-off/on and that's
was not a good sign, hope that's the only time I encounter
that issue.

4 out of 5 eggsBeautiful Picture, Thin Bezel

Pros: Looks great, easy to setup, very crisp picture, awesome colors, good resolution, menus easy to navigate.

It has an auto-dim/bright feature than I've gone back and forth on whether I like it or not (it can be both distracting and pretty cool). You can certainly turn it off if you don't like it, but I do think it's a pretty cool feature when going from a sunny mountainside into a cave and the monitor brightens up a bit. Downside is when it's not a pronounced change in environment and the monitor keeps trying to dim/brighten like watching a movie or playing a FPS where you run in and out of cover, etc.

Cons: There are a few things that I wouldn't take off an egg for by themselves, but they add up. Controls on the side of the monitor is clucky for multiple monitor setups despite the thin bezel promoting multiples. Only DVI and VGA plug ins... in 2014 this is borderline unacceptable. Doesn't come with a DVI cord or adapter. Pretty wobbly, I don't fear it will fall over it just wobbles any time I slightly nudge my desk. $199 is pretty high for this monitor, I would value it closer to the $99 I paid on Cyber Monday.

Other Thoughts: No height or swivel adjustment, I understand that's sort of a hit or miss thing with monitors (and certainly something you know going in) so not a negative just needs to be noted.

Bottom line to me is the monitor performs where it should: the display. I really would give this monitor 3.5 eggs, but at the price I got it at and with none of the issues being related to visuals I can round up. The things I took an egg off for all all convenience things, and when you got down to it 99% of the time using a monitor will just be looking at it.

5 out of 5 eggsQuality Monitor

Pros: Sturdy design, good color contrast, good resolution, and inexpensive (I got it on sale for $115). What people say about the buttons doesn't make sense. Once you press one of them it shows on screen (not a gigantic menu, just a small one in the corner) what each button does right beside it. Once you get that it's pretty easy to work with. Also about plugs in the back, I just used the VGA and it went in easy and has plenty of room to spare. Though the cord clip was hard to insert/remove cords from, but that's a good thing. Overall a great monitor so far.

Cons: Pulled it out of the box and there was a small smudge of tape residue directly in the center, but was easily cleaned up with some dilute alcohol and a microfiber cloth.

3 out of 5 eggsBeautiful with some design flaws

Pros: Beautiful Screen
Thin Bezel
Great price!

Cons: Control buttons on side - can't see what you are pressing
Area where cables are plugged in was poorly designed by not allowing the use of an adapter.

Other Thoughts: Took off two stars for design issues. Why the control buttons are on the side is perplexing. Also, you are unable to use a cable adapter due to the design of the plug area - it has a curved bottom which prevents the cable and adapter from fully fitting in the area. I was attempt to use an hdmi cable with a dvi adapter and it simply wouldn't work due to the space restriction.

These are more annoyances, but Dell should know better. It's still a beautiful screen and monitor and these flaws probably won't bother most people.
