5 out of 5 eggsNice Monitor So Far

Pros: Good Viewing Angles
Very Thin
Good Brightness
The response time is fast enough for gaming

Cons: Not too many really, the screen is glossy so it will reflect with a lot of background light so watch out for that. I also found the HDMI port a little bit difficult to connect but neither of these problems were a big deal

Other Thoughts: Definitely a very good monitor. Pretty good price for an IPS monitor, many are way more expensive

3 out of 5 eggsGood monitor - Not great

Pros: Low glare; Pretty good contrast; Fairly bright

Honestly, thats all I really noticed.

Cons: Honestly? When I hooked it up, I had it sitting next to my old Samsung; LED non IPS panel

Contrast, color, brightness - all of it was noticeably better on the monitor that was over 3 years old.

Other Thoughts: It's not a bad monitor.

But I wasnt happy with it when I got it - not satisfied considering what I was expecting it to be - plus, I was going for a 3 mointor set up, the quickly ran out of stock - that was the icing on the cake, and I returned it.

Frankly, if you want a good deal, on a decent 23" IPS panel, go for the HP Pavilion 23xi's

4 out of 5 eggsDell S2340L

Pros: Nice Price. Good looking picture, thin bezel, thin screen.

Cons: Stand is flimsy. Not VESA either, so no easy upgrade.
No HDMI cable included, only VGA. VGA! Really?
It was like a flashback....I was expecting the drivers on a floppy at that point!

Other Thoughts: I'm happy, considering the price point. I did have a moment of panic when I noticed the entire screen was not being used. Used Catalyst Control Center to adjust over/underscan. No worries now.
Again, I am happy at the 159 price point.

5 out of 5 eggsThis is the one!

Pros: -Great color.
-Excellent viewing angles.
-Text is clear and sharp.
-Games and videos look amazing.

Cons: -Wish it had a DVI to so I didn't have to use a switch since I have my computer and ps3 hooked up at the same time.

Other Thoughts: I am very impressed with this display. Incredible looking screen. Everything is vibrant, sharp, and thankfully received one with no dead pixels. Love the look of the glass and the glossy display looks superb.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Display

Pros: - Great brightness/contrast (just as good as my MacBook Pro screen)
- Clarity that only a glossy screen can provide
- Very thin bezel ...unbelievably thin all around!
- Text appears very sharp & clean w/o any visible pixels
- Pixel pitch is perfect
- Pairs great with a Mac (connected to my MacBook Pro)
- HDMI input (S2340M has a DVI input if that's what you're looking for)
- Intuitive buttons and menu system
- Buttons are hidden, yet easily accessed on the right side
- IPS display allows for great viewing angles
- Movies, Photos ...anything look AMAZING on this screen!

Cons: - Stand is very low (bottom of the monitor is only about 3" high). There is some wobble from it as well.
- Does not accept VESA mounts (though an adapter is available)
- Certain parts of the monitor feel cheap
- Only HDMI & VGA inputs. (Should have DVI as well)

Other Thoughts: Glossy screen will bother some, but I prefer a glossy screen for it's rich color/contrast and overall crispness in its picture. Some matte screens use heavy anti-glare coating that is very distracting and makes the screen appear grainy. Since I work in a dark environment, glare is not an issue at all on this glossy display. Design and build quality are great, especially at this low price point. Completely satisfied with this monitor!

3 out of 5 eggsCompromised Quality

Pros: * Sharp looking IPS panel with excellent viewing angle.
* Decent color saturation.
* Slim/space saving design.

Cons: Compromised Quality
As soon as I opened the packaging, I was instantly disappointed. It seems that apart from Apple, very few manufacturers really care about the build quality, presentation and packaging of their products. I purchased these for a dual monitor setup for a secretary, as I would never permit this level of cheap looking/feeling plastic hardware atop my workspace. It virtually feels like any handling might simply shatter these monitors (bezel is flexy and, once again, cheap looking). If these were advertised as low cost/cheap models, then I would have felt forewarned. But they are categorized as "premium" in the product video, which I fail to see any of.

Glare
Nothing unexpected here, these are quite reflective, but most monitors today are just the same.

Other Thoughts: Bottom Line
If you want a decent looking/performing monitor at a decent price, this monitor is an option. If you are someone who values build quality and want a premium monitor, steer clear.

2 out of 5 eggsOK monitor with good looks, but avoid if possible.

Pros: The Dell S2340L is a moderately priced monitor that looks better than it performs. The box contents are the monitor, 2 pieces of the small stand, a VGA cable and a power brick. This unit does not take the standard computer power plug and the transformer is in the "brick" type power adapter.

The monitor powered up nicely but the blacks are grayish. Refresh seemed ok at the default 60 hz and was running at 1920 by 1080 via the HDMI input. There were random flickers periodically and what appeared to be pixel blocks which would turn green when there was disk I/O.

Where it failed is when I had my browser (Chrome Version 23.0.1271.97 m) open full screen and I opened GoDaddy's hosted mail site. Everytime I did so, the monitor shut itself down.

I have opened a ticket to Dell, but tech support with them is hit or miss. I would recommend you avoid this monitor.

Cons: Color was washed out when compared to my Laptop built in screen. Strange pixel redraw when disk I/O was happening and monitor shut down intermittently and unexpectedly.

I was able to finally determine that the monitor did NOT like when I had Chrome open full screen and I opened my hosted mail through GoDaddy. This caused the monitor screen to shut off each time and every time. (but only in full screen)

Other Thoughts: Avoid this one.

5 out of 5 eggsnice upgrade from tn

Pros: edge-to-edge glass
thin border
ips
i got mine for $175
thin width for an ips

Cons: border isn't as thin as the pictures make it look
lack of inputs (only hdmi)

Other Thoughts: check dealzon to see if you can get this anywhere for a lower price which makes it well worth it and I might consider getting 2 more for surround
no cable management

4 out of 5 eggsDecent but I returned it

Pros: - Spectacular colour on YCbCr mode over HDMI (NVIDIA Quadro)
- Sleek full-glass design

Cons: - Slightly reduced contrast on RGB mode over HDMI
- Quite reflective on darker, close to black, areas (needed a decently bright wallpaper to minimize it). If you're used to non-glossy LCD screens, you might find it difficult to adjust to seeing a mirror image of yourself (or of windows) on the monitor

Other Thoughts: I don't have a colorimeter, so I can't say how close this comes to full sRGB. Note that this is almost certainly an eIPS monitor with 6-bit colour + AFRC.
In the end, I sent this back to Dell for a refund (I bought directly from Dell) with the intention of switching to an UltraSharp model or competing anti-glare IPS screen.

3 out of 5 eggsWhat You See is Not What You Get

Pros: *These monitors have very thin bezels. With two of them together, they're smaller than one bezel of my Ultrasharp U2312HM.

*The color out of the box is fantastic and there's very minimum, if any calibration necessary.

*The glossy screens are great for those that love them. Unlike past glossy monitors I've had, these actually aren't as reflective, so you won't need to block out all your windows just to use them. The colors look very vibrant and clear even when the morning sun is hitting the room.

Cons: *The biggest problem is the dark overshoot you get when you see white over black. It's moderately noticeable. Some won't mind it, while others won't be able to stand it. Where you fall in that spectrum is up to you. As well, there is no way to adjust the overdrive to fix this problem as Dell has removed the option from their service menu within the monitors.

*Another issue is the very limited stand. It feels very stiff and hard to move around. It almost qualifies as having that "cheaply made" feel.

*The price of these at the time of writing is ridiculous compared to the other model (S2340M). They are the exact same monitor with the only distinguishing factor being the DVI input rather than HDMI. Yet, there is nearly a third difference in price.

Other Thoughts: Overall, I do like this monitor a lot. However, where it does fail with the dark overshoot and price is what brings this down from 5 stars to 3, though 3.5 would be more accurate. There is also the issue with the pictures put up on this page to show the monitor off. The bezels are not as thin as advertised in those pictures. This originally had led me to purchase this monitor over the cheaper model M, which showed the bezels as they are in real life. After paying price premium for what I assumed was even smaller bezels, I am now stuck with something that was, and currently is being falsely advertised. I would return or exchange them, however, after paying for return shipping and being charged a restocking fee, I'm sure I would lose more than I would save.
