5 out of 5 eggs10/10 - I have two of these, I wish I had more

Pros: I'm a software developer and have two of these (and 2 other monitors). I don't usually review items but have been so deeply satisfied with Dell UltraSharps that I was inspired to share my insights.

#0: if you're looking for this to be your only monitor, it's a good choice. Large enough for split-screens and a glossy finish that you can look at all day long. Personally, I recommend it in a 3 or 4 monitor configuration, but if this is your only monitor it's still perfect.

#1: This monitor is huge - 27". Big enough to get your rocks off and small enough not to be overwhelming. For people reading text (Visual Studio or Sublime) at one or two feet from your face, this will be perfect.

#2: This monitor is HUGE: 2560x1440. It's perfect for high intensity development, there's a ton of screen real-estate and if things are too small for you, just zoom in. (CTRL+ Center-Mouse-Scroll-Up)

#3: There is no back-lighting bleed. I have had other monitors that bled A LOT. The U2713HM doesn't. It's black, like all over black. The kind of black you like to see on a monitor that's supposed to be black.

#4: No dead pixels. No bright pixels. No pixel lines. It's picture perfect on every dot. 10/10.

#5: Perfect color quality. Photoshop, illustrator, text editors, and games show vivid and full colors. This monitor has a perfectly color-complete range of expression and you will be utterly satisfied by the richness and accuracy of the picture. You can turn on "scenic mode" or "game mode" if you're in the mood for a deeply enriching experience.

#6: No interference (cross-talk, cross-interference) when displaying alternating pixel-patterns. This seems like a gimme, but some monitors have issues with this. This monitor doesn't. I've never had this monitor slip on me in any way.

#7: NewEgg is a little over-priced for this monitor, you might want to check a search engine.

Cons: The bezel is "standard size" so if you're interested in a zero-width bezel, this monitor is not for you.

HDMI input maxes out at a resolution of 1080p. If HDMI is your only output then I wouldn't recommend this as an option. If you have displayport or DVI then this is a great monitor for you. You won't regret it.

I honestly have no more cons but I will update this if I think of more.

Other Thoughts: No other thoughts. I have two and would recommend this to any software developer, gamer, or someone that likes enjoying their computer.

5 out of 5 eggsVery happy

Pros: Awesome color and response time. Got it on sale last winter and it still looks beautiful. Not one back pixel. Stand is also great. Good pivot and adjustment.

Cons: None to think of..

1 out of 5 eggsNice monitor but not really practical

Pros: The picture is beautiful and the adjustable height is very comfortable.

Cons: High-DPI support on Windows is so bad it's worse than using a standard resolution display. Most applications are not set up to support high DPI displays, so you end up with a blurrier picture than you would with a 1920x1080 display.

The soundbar is pretty ghetto looking. I thought it would mount and draw power from the monitor, but instead there is a wire you connect to either an AC poewr adapter or the back of the monitor. Not a huge deal, but just another wire I am trying to eliminate, and it looks really bad hanging off the monitor.

Other Thoughts: Bad support for high DPI displays on Windows.
No built-in speakers.
No built-in web cam.

Conclusion: This will not turn your PC into an iMac.

5 out of 5 eggsBright and stylish

Pros: Lots of connection options. Bright panel. Portrait mode supported. Easy switching between two input ports with OSD. Great price for the value of the monitor. Colors and sharpness are excellent.

Cons: Was not free :)

Other Thoughts: This resolution is supported by Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga only with the OneDock Pro and DisplayPort. If using with a laptop, be sure your laptop supports these higher resolutions. 2560x1440 is at the upper end for older laptops *without* discrete graphics cards. Check before you buy. Same goes for the newer 4K monitors - which most non-gaming laptops cannot support natively.

1 out of 5 eggsNever saw the 2713hm work!

Pros: The Dell U2713HM has a good design, many features with many inputs, good controls and specifications, appeared to be of high build quality, and has a very good, highly adjustable stand.

Cons: 1. The Dell U2713HM was first setup on an HP z420 workstation having a Quadro K2200 (4GB) GPU on Displayport output 1 using an Accell Displayport 1.2 cable to the U2713hm Displayport input . The result was no display.

2. Displayport output 2 > Accell Displayport cable > U2713hm Displayport input-- no display.

3. Quadro Displayport 1 > Displayport to DVI adapter > DVI cable> U2713hm DVI input- no display

4. Quadro DVI > DVI cable> U2713HM DVI- unusable pale green screen with horizontal lines

Dell Precision T5400 with Quadro FX 4800 (1.5GB) :

1. Quadro FX4800 Displayport > Accell Displayport cable > U2713hm Displayport input - no display

2. Quadro FX 4800 Displayport > Displayport to DVI adapter > DVI cable> U2713HM DVI input- no display

3. Quadro FX4800 DVI > DVI cable> U2713hm DVI- unusable pale green screen with horizontal lines

Result > Monitor not working

Trying 5 GPU outputs and two cables on two systems so as to eliminate the GPU's and cables produced no usable display. This monitor was RMA'd for refund.

Other Thoughts: I've long heard of Dell Ultrasharp monitors image and build quality so this was a disappointing and time-consuming experience, but Newegg was very good with both the order and about the return, sending a printable UPS label.

5 out of 5 eggsGood value

Pros: Good price given screen size and high resolution.

Cons: HDMI input is limited to 1920*1080.

Other Thoughts: Luckily all my devices have DisplayPort. If you need to use HDMI, you may want to consider other models. All in all, a very solid product.

5 out of 5 eggsHigh Price Relative to 4K Monitors

Pros: Beautiful display, perfect for photo editing, BluRay movies or other fine-quality work. Display is splendid even at its native 1920 resolution using an HDMI video card output. The monitor's USB 3.0 outputs are very convenient, and the adjustment for vertical display is easy.

Cons: This monitor will not display its full 2560X1440 resolution with HDMI. It requires a video card with a DisplayPort output and a DisplayPort cable for full resolution, but this is not explained in the included directions. I use an XFX R7750 Core Edition video card which has a DisplayPort output.

Other Thoughts: It has a beautiful picture but you can get a new 4K monitor for about the same price as this 2560 monitor. Its price seems relatively high now.

5 out of 5 eggsWOW, nuff said

Pros: Wow, this monitor is so gorgeous of a display. The clarity and amount of room to work with is astounding. I was able to eliminate two monitors and go to just this one. There were times that I wanted to get dual of these displays running, but I am comfortable with just this one. The swivel of the monitor is a great option versus having to turn the actual stand since a good majority are stationary. Do enjoy the vertical height adjustments that are available as well.

Was originally running dual displays of 1680x1050 on previous Ultrasharps. Those suckers are heavy when compared to this display's weight.

Cons: Does not include DisplayPort Cable, be sure to get one under 10ft if you want to have the 1440p resolution. I picked one up 6ft for $6; not a bad deal if I say so myself

Other Thoughts: This a great purchase and would highly recommend this to anyone that is looking for a great size monitor that produces wonderful colors.

5 out of 5 eggsQuality build, quality service.

Pros: TL;DR - Get this monitor. It's got great build quality and that jump to 1440 with knock your socks off. Any issues of dead pixels or back light bleed can easily be fixed by Dell's amazing customer service, and you get to keep your current monitor while a replacement is being sent so you don't ever skip a beat.

Design - Dell has always been my favorite in terms of design. Their monitors stand as the epitome of sensible aesthetics, flaunting what they got but never going overboard. The thin, matte black frame is a refreshing change for a longtime Samsung monitor owner like myself, as it pulls your eye more towards what's on the screen instead of what's around it.

Materials - Dell backs up their strong design with equally strong materials. Though not as rock solid as some Dell monitors of the past, the U2713HM is still clad with a superior material to most other monitors. Its base swivel allows for smooth-as-silk adjustment and the way the screen is mounted paired with the monitor's weight ensures the U27 will never tilt or slide.

Screen - If you are ready to switch to 1440 resolution, this monitor is a safe bet. Its refresh rate can be overclocked all the way to 90hz without issue and its input lag is a meager 8ms. I'm not even sure I notice a difference switching from my 1ms Samsung to this Dell. The colors are absolutely incredible and have made my time as a digital artist easier. The monitor that was shipped to me had absolutely no dead pixels, no diagonal stripes, and what faint back light bleed it had was quickly fixed by Dell's customer support, who, after 40 minutes of verification, sent out a replacement monitor with no issues at all.

Customer Service - Perhaps the most impressive aspect of this monitor is its great customer service. When I realized I had small back light bleed, I called Dell support. Almost immediately I was put on a line with a representative. The process we went through to verify there was actually a problem with my monitor was a little tedious but understandably so, and after roughly 40 minutes, support arranged to have a replacement monitor shipped to me while I held onto my current one. After a week, the monitor arrived in immaculate condition, with no issues whatsoever. I was absolutely impressed and a little surprised the whole process went so smoothly.

Cons: This is an IPS monitor, so minor screen glow will be an issue to the most discerning users. That's just the nature of the beast, however, and isn't really a con at all, simply something to be aware of when purchasing this product.

The price is also a bit steep, but you get what you pay for and then some. I have no buyer's remorse.

Other Thoughts: For those of you who want a higher refresh rate, this monitor can go up to 90hz. Feel free to overclock!

4 out of 5 eggsGreat monitor, just wish it was 16x10

Pros: Excellent image quality, good looking, USB if you need it.

Cons: IMO, 16x9 is a con. Really wish you could get 27" in 16x10 but for some reason no one makes one in QHD - you have to go 30". Full price is fairly steep considering this monitor has been around a few years.

Other Thoughts: Bought this on one of the killer sales ($550) and well worth that price with excellent image quality - it shows just how cheap my 2 HannsG 27" 1920x1200 monitors really are. I am not sure why it is so hard to get 16x10 but I would like those extra pixels. Note that you cannot get full res with HDMI so use a DVI cable or other. Plenty of ports including USB. Would definitely buy again, the somewhat smaller screen size compared to my other monitors is worth giving up for the increased resolution.
