1 out of 5 eggsNot all that good

Pros: It has a DVI input

Cons: Colors a washed out, sharpness is sub-standard.

Other Thoughts: I have an ASUS monitor of the same size and it blows away this monitor. I would not recommend purchasing this monitor.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty good monitor for an average one!

Pros: Easily recognized in W8 64 bit, driver installs painlessly, very low power consumption. All colors display very well, and I had no dead pixels. Not as fast or color rich as my main monitor, but decent enough for basic use and light gaming. Still 1080p, even though 1600x900, which was main thing I was interested in.

Cons: Very bright! Had to tone it down just a tad on the monitor controls.

Other Thoughts: Needed a widescreen for my testbed computer I slapped together to test out W8 long term. So far I'm very impressed and feel it is excellent value for the money.

5 out of 5 eggsGood value if correctly applied.

Pros: Cheap for a monitor with these specs. Aptly suitable for a workstation monitor in a compatible environment. DVI and VGA capable which is a big plus to me. Reliable so far. Good range of adjustments for video display.

If you're buying monitors for business workstations this monitor will do a decent job on text and graphics display.

This monitor is a good choice cost-wise if you need multiple monitors or augmentation for a primary monitor.

Cons: It's what you would expect from a cheaper monitor so maybe not a con but "heads up", you're not buying a high-end super-brilliant, super responsive monitor. This is a base model and it acts and looks like a base model. It should be evaluated for it's specified capabilities and it's real world performance compared to that reference.

Unlike my high-end Dell primary monitor which uses touch sensitive buttons, the controls on this monitor are mechanical. The buttons are activated by pressing the right side of the button and they hinge/pivot on the left. If you push straight down you'll probably think they don't work right.

If you're thinking you'll buy this monitor and get a high-performance monitor cheap then that's your fault not the monitor's or the manufacturer's. The specs are very clearly stated and accurate.

The low price and Dell name probably induce people to buy this monitor that shouldn't.

It's not impressively bright or white.

Other Thoughts: I wouldn't buy this for a primary monitor. My computer has six monitors- 2 old Princetons (I replaced the factory caps), a 32" TV, 2 of this model Dell and one very good Dell Ultra-Thin monitor as the primary.

If you're looking for a decent budget monitor for your kid(s), a security camera screen, a cheaper monitor for everyday but not long duration use or secondary monitors in a multiple monitor application this monitor will do the job very well.

With six monitors on a single computer cost is a major factor for me. A function of cost is how often a monitor needs to be replaced. Longevity is important and that's why I bought this monitor. So far it's held up well, even being moved across the continent lately when I re-located.

Don't buy WD green drives for a system hard drive, don't buy a cheap video card for a primary card, and don't buy this monitor for a primary monitor if you work at a computer all day and this is your only monitor.

3 out of 5 eggsAlmost Returned

Pros: Good color and more than adequate for a workstation computer. The base assembly was simple and the unit is lightweight.

Cons: After I hooked it up, I pushed the power button and got nothing. Several more attempts with the same results and even tried plugging it in to 2 different outlets. I was almost ready to start the RMA process when I gave it one more try, pushing the button in and jiggling side to side at the same time. Low and behold, it worked. Tried a few more times and every time I had to push the button in and nudge it to the right. I doubt that this is standard operating procedure.

Other Thoughts: I keep the monitor powered on and it goes into standby when the computer is turned off, so fiddling with the power button is no longer an issue.

4 out of 5 eggsOK for the price

Pros: Price. Comes with VGA and DVI cables.

Cons: Cheap, stand has no height-adjustment, poor color reproduction. You get what you paid for and since you didn't pay much, you don't get much.

Other Thoughts: Dell told me that this monitor comes only with a VGA cable. I was pleasantly surprised to find both a VGA and a DVI cable included. The stand does not rotate and has no height adjustment, just as expected. And the picture quality is poor with very bad color reproduction - again, just as expected. The shortcoming of this monitor are glaringly apparent when you put it next a much more expensive IPS panel, but then again, I didn't buy this monitor expecting greatness. As an extra monitor on your desk it does the job and it does it for cheap. As a primary monitor this would not be my choice. If price is no object, then this monitor doesn't even deserve one egg. But considering that it cost $99, 4 eggs sounds right.

5 out of 5 eggsDecent monitor

Pros: good color saturation, even lighting in both dark and light, no dead/stuck pixels, lightweight, no wall wart

Cons: n/a

Other Thoughts: I am using this with a PS3 with a simple HDMI->DVI adapter. It does both 720P and 1080P scaled, and both look pretty much the same. Good colors, no over/underscan, no noise in darks, and very even lighting. The OSD menu is easy to use and responds quickly. There is slightly less ,otion jitter/blur when things move fast, a little better than the HP I have with the same specs... about what you'd expect from a 5ms monitor.
