3 out of 5 eggsRash of defective monitors, finally got a good one. Nice, but not quite as refined as the old 3007Wfp

This review is from: Dell U3014 Black 30" 6ms HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight Height Adjustable IPS LCD Monitor 350 cd/m2 DCR 2,000,000:1 (1000:1)

Pros: - The image is very clear and bright
- Perseverance paid off and I have a monitor that now works and has a full stack of functioning pixels.

Cons: - Noticeable refresh latency in video games (even in Gaming mode)
- Monitor stand is not very exciting, the previous models appeared to be more solidly constructed.
- First unit had a really obnoxious group of stuck red pixels
- Second unit had many stuck pixels (10)
- Third unit won't power on (monitor revision A04)

Other Thoughts: - This series has delivered some really great monitors, however this particular model delivers a meh experience.
- Added two eggs, because I finally got a good monitor. Thank you NewEgg!

3 out of 5 eggsQuality not as good as it used to be, No Windows XP Drivers

This review is from: Dell U3014 Black 30" 6ms HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight Height Adjustable IPS LCD Monitor 350 cd/m2 DCR 2,000,000:1 (1000:1)

Pros: Large display, IPS with LED backlight, professional color, USB 3.0 port. 16:10 aspect rare considering everyone is going to 16:9 a TV format. .25 Pitch IPS screen. Excellent color after minor adjustments.

Cons: No Windows XP drivers, sometimes blanks and will not restore when used with KVM switch requiring power cycle to get the screen back. Minor, but something to consider if you switch between computers (like me)

Other Thoughts: I have always been a loyal Dell customer, some of their products have been bulletproof but it seems the quality has dropped. One of my major hangups with Dell is backwards software support. Many of my customers still use (and plan on extended used of) XP even though Microsoft has stopped its support. There are NO Drivers for XP thus preventing someone from getting the full resolution under XP. My other gripe This is where HP kicks, but their ZR30W has XP drivers. Last, stuck pixels, mine developed a number of them within the first 30 days, that in combination with the lack of XP drivers and the screen blanking issues caused me to send mine back.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Monitor

This review is from: Dell U3014 Black 30" 6ms HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight Height Adjustable IPS LCD Monitor 350 cd/m2 DCR 2,000,000:1 (1000:1)

Pros: Excellent sRGB and or ADOBE color gamut; PLEASE TAKE the time to FAMILIARIZE yourself with DELL's settings; There are many but I assure you it will be wroth the effort; You will be REWARDED with CRISP text, VERY ACCURATE color rendering; You may find the need to position the monitor further away from you due to it's size; I t arrived quickly and MOST IMPORTANT, NO DEAD PIXELS

Cons: NONE

Other Thoughts: I am very happy with the price/ purchase ratio of this monitor;
NEWEGG IS GREAT.

1 out of 5 eggsStay away !!!

This review is from: Dell U3014 Black 30" 6ms HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight Height Adjustable IPS LCD Monitor 350 cd/m2 DCR 2,000,000:1 (1000:1)

Pros: Purchased directly from Dell, however, it makes sense to post my experience here, since the unit is sold here as well. This is an expensive unit intended for professional use and you'd expect that, at this level, quality control is paramount. Wrong!

Cons: Stopped working within a week. Banding like it was less then 8 bit color and scintillating pixels all over the screen. It took two full days, 3 separate chat sessions and 8 toll free numbers which generated 3 more for a grand total of 11... to get someone to determine that the unit was defective and needed to be exchanged. Impressive right? Then came the second wave of passing the buck! No concrete information of the actual delivery date for the exchange and 3 emails, 2 chats and 3 toll free numbers later, I still had no answer. It was in the near future, just not sure when.....Very impressive indeed!

Other Thoughts: Dell customer service and support departments are totally disconnected and that translates into a reality of endless hours in both phone and chat queues, to inevitably be redirected from one number to another and so on and so on. Clearly, Dell has no clue how to integrate customer service and support in order to help their customers. For this reason, I would strongly advise you to stay away from this or any other Dell product unless of course, you don't mind getting the short end of the stick.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Monitor

This review is from: Dell U3014 Black 30" 6ms HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight Height Adjustable IPS LCD Monitor 350 cd/m2 DCR 2,000,000:1 (1000:1)

Pros: I do a lot of Photoshop, and I bought this monitor to mate with my MacPro desktop computer (2013). I got it from Newegg on a Black Friday deal for an incredibly low price. The monitor has far exceeded expectations. The colors are beautiful, and even though the images are sharp, there's a kind of softness that makes it easy on the eyes.

Cons: This monitor was made for a Windows machine, so if you own a Mac, you'll have to buy a $100 cable from Apple. Some people complained their cable didn't work, but mine has worked perfectly from the beginning. The other thing is that the monitor has five control buttons on the side that are very fiddly. It always takes several tries to get results. The good news is that you don't have to fiddle with them very often once they are set up unless you calibrate the monitor—but that involves only one or two buttons, so no big deal.

Other Thoughts: I love this monitor. It's big and professional and beautiful—well worth the cost. I'm in no way connected with Dell, I just think it's a great monitor.

3 out of 5 eggsOverall decent

This review is from: Dell U3014 Black 30" 6ms HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight Height Adjustable IPS LCD Monitor 350 cd/m2 DCR 2,000,000:1 (1000:1)

Pros: Having upgraded from a Dell 2408WFP the larger screen is nice, combined with the 2560x1600 resolution. I strongly prefer the 16:10 aspect ratio to the 16:9. Its nice having so much room.

Cons: Pretty obnoxious backlight bleed in the bottom corners, especially on the right hand side. When I was playing a game that had a really dark scene, I could not tell what was going on in the bottom right corner at all. After searching the net apparently that just the way it goes, and exchanging would most likely not improve it.

Also had issues with connecting the USB ports. When I connected them my BIOS would not recognize me keyboard, no matter what port I had the keyboard or monitor plugged in to. It would be nice to be able to utilize everything I paid for, but thankfully I didn't really care about those anyway so I feel no sense of loss.

Other Thoughts: I don't think I will return it over this because I'm a very casual gamer and I don't often work with a very dark screen, but if I saw this monitor in person I would likely not have bought it. Received rev 6 from newegg.

5 out of 5 eggsThe best I have seen

This review is from: Dell U3014 Black 30" 6ms HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight Height Adjustable IPS LCD Monitor 350 cd/m2 DCR 2,000,000:1 (1000:1)

Pros: This is the best monitor I've found for my uses - World of Warcraft, Microsoft Office, and web browsing. Not a hardcore video / picture editor or photographer (or gamer, as you can tell). I got this monitor because it was the largest 16:10 ratio monitor I could find, and I like the idea of a monitor manufactured for color accuracy, even though I don't plan to calibrate color on it. I don't like the 16:9 ratio for anything other than watching video, and black bars don't bother me. 16:10 is taller for less vertical scrolling and better top-to-bottom visibility in WoW.

The size is nice if you're eyes are starting to go... With this size, and resolution, you can make text bigger in browsers and Office so that you can read it easily (and without strain) but still get lots of page space on the screen, with not a lot of scrolling. I will admit to using bigger fonts and doing a lot of side-by-side document work, and this monitor has the resolution and screen area to make this very, very easy.

I received a revision A05 from Newegg. Very, very bright. Onscreen menu consists of 4 touch buttons on right of monitor and the menu goes into far more depth then I need or understand.

The only adjustments I made after unboxing were to adjust the brightness and contrast down to fit my darkish workspace. More sophisticated users will be able to tune the monitor to their satisfaction, I have zero doubt.

I wanted to purchase this monitor before 16:10 monitors disappear completely... I am disappointed that this very functional aspect ratio appears to be headed for extinction. I suppose a 35"-ish 4K monitor will be a replacement in the far future, but I just really like the height and visibility. If you're fuzzy on the functionality, browse the same website on a 16:9 android tablet and an Apple iPad. For me, the taller iPad is better, more visibility and less scrolling.

If you're on the fence between something like this monitor, and a much less expensive 27" monitor, consider how monitors amortize... How old is your current monitor? The one before that? I plan on keeping this monitor a long, long time. I put mine behind a good uninterruptible power supply along with my main computer. Yes, spend money on a UPS, it helps.

I waited a few weeks between setting up this monitor to qualify this review, and after weeks of heavy use, I can very much recommend this monitor. For the heavy computer user, I would encourage you to stretch your budget and slightly overspend on this monitor. I am certain you will be delighted.

Cons: For the nit-pickers, there is a very slight light bleed on the lower left side of screen when there is a black screen. If there is any image (even a dark image) on the screen, it is not noticeable to me. I sit close to the monitor and it changes intensity when I change my angle of view, if you sit farther away you may not notice it at all. I have a dark workspace and have turned down the brightness / contrast, if you have a bright workspace and turn this incredibly bright monitor up, it has a possibility of bothering you.

Or not. I had to think of SOMETHING for a con.

Other Thoughts: Paired this monitor with the Egrotron 45-295-026 also from Newegg. This monitor is on the outer limit of what this arm will do but is still sufficient as long as you have a strong table surface. Very much recommend it.

And get a good UPS to protect your investment.

5 out of 5 eggsThe Perfect Monitor (so far)

This review is from: Dell U3014 Black 30" 6ms HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight Height Adjustable IPS LCD Monitor 350 cd/m2 DCR 2,000,000:1 (1000:1)

Pros: Crystal clear, amazing color and brightness.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: I love this amazing Dell monitor. It seems perfect and is what I have always hoped for in a large monitor. I have it sitting next to a five year old 30 inch HP that cost me over twice as much and is 50% heavier and bulkier and it is just shocking to me just how much better everything looks on the newer monitor.

I don't even want to look at the old HP monitor anymore it's that bad in comparison.

I'll probably give away the older monitor -- an HP LP3065 -- and buy one or perhaps even two more of these Dell U3014 monitors once the price comes down a bit. I develop software full-time and can use all the screen real estate I can get.

If you're in the market for a large HD monitor with 2560 x 1600 resolution and spend a lot of time at your computer, do yourself a favor and consider buying the Dell U3014.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat monitor, glad I got it

This review is from: Dell U3014 Black 30" 6ms HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight Height Adjustable IPS LCD Monitor 350 cd/m2 DCR 2,000,000:1 (1000:1)

Pros: As of the date I write this review Newegg is shipping out A4 revisions of this monitor (this is good). Huge screen, like an IMAX for my desk. Color, contrast, image quality all excellent for my needs out of the box. Heartily recommended.

Cons: Brightness at 50% (the out of the box default) is WAY too bright for my basement desktop space. I have it literally turned down to 1%. Doesn't include a DP to DP cable (just a mini-DP to DP). Requires a decent mid-range video card for any modern 3D shooters to be remotely playable. If you like eye-candy then get a higher-end video card to go with this.

Other Thoughts: If you've done any internet research, you'd see that when this monitor first came out it had a lot of quality control issues. That's the A1 version. The second version, A2, was released a few months later in order to improve upon some of the widely complained off issues. While it fixed some problems, it added others. From what I've read online it wasn't until the "third time's the charm" A3 release that everybody was pretty happy with what they received. Now as of today's date that I'm writing this Newegg is shipping the A4 release. I had absolutely no issues with my unit and am very happy with my purchase. Feel free to look around online for some expert, in-depth reviews discussing the cailbration, etc.

1 out of 5 eggsMove up to 4K, avoid this mess.

This review is from: Dell U3014 Black 30" 6ms HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight Height Adjustable IPS LCD Monitor 350 cd/m2 DCR 2,000,000:1 (1000:1)

Pros: one 2560x1600 display does not require SLI

Cons: Dell QC is shot to hell.

Other Thoughts: I own and treasure my Dell U3007, so in spite of mixed reviews I gave Dell another chance at my business for a second display to make a matched set of 30" displays. The U3011 I purchased (2nd) I returned because it had major image problems, it was so bad that it was unusable, the next U3014 came all beat up thanks to UPS (3rd). The next (4th) U3014 has three red thin vertical lines top to bottom. It is usable but not worth $1,200.

Several Korean companies (Doublesight, Crossover, Yamakasi, Perfect Pixel, Zevroid) are buying Dell reject panels (2560x1600) and selling them with inferior electronics and cheap cases. Since my U3007 has lasted 7+ years I'm not ready to spend several hundred dollars on second hand rejected parts cobbled together.

Newegg has been wonderful through all these trials, thank you Newegg. A year ago when the ASUS PQ321Q (4K) display was brand new MSRP was $3,500 and the pioneer owners had major driver issues. I was not ready for 4k then, and neither was NVIDA. The driver issues are now long past and Newegg has the ASUS PQ321Q for $1866. This is now a no brainer.

I've seen the future, it is here now. DELL QC for the 30" 2560x1600 is in the abyss. For the difference in money go for the 4k ASUS PQ321Q and avoid all the problems I had.

The 30" Dell display was their flagship product only a few years ago, it breaks my heart to see their QC go to blazes.
