3 out of 5 eggsSome good, some bad

Pros: I have the A03 version manufactured in November 2013. I haven't noticed any of the problems that previous versions seemed to be plagued with such as lines or backlight bleed.

Picture *can* look great, but you have to know what you're doing when you calibrate it. It also helps to have a good video card with its own adjustments.

2560x1600 resolution is awesome.

Cons: The backlight is way too bright and I can't find a way to adjust it without destroying color quality. The monitor has brightness and contract adjustments, but those are primarily for color adjustment and not the actual brightness of the light. When I get my blacks and whites where they look just right, the picture looks awesome but it is so bright it hurts my eyes to look at it for long. Reducing the "brightness" setting on the monitor really messes up the colors, so that's not an option. The only solution I could find was to reduce the color brightness settings on the graphics driver, which seems to be doing the trick.

The color and brightness varies depending on what angle you view the screen. This screen is 30" so when I look at the corners and edges of the screen it's at a slightly different angle than center-view. This is enough to make different areas of the screen look slightly different. If I move my head so that the edge or corner is center-view then whatever is center-view looks normal while the rest of the screen looks slightly off. So the panel appears to be uniform, but it looks slightly different at different angles.

This monitor has noticeable fast-motion issues, so avoid it for movies or games. I even had to turn off smooth scrolling in my browser because the motion of the text scrolling was unbearable enough that it hurt my eyes.

For whatever reason this monitor is having trouble displaying highly contrasting text. White text on black backgrounds and black text on white backgrounds is not very sharp and has a reddish glow to it. I'm still toying with the settings trying to eliminate this but haven't had any luck yet.

The touch buttons for menus are just stupid. They're clumsy and difficult to use. Another example of a manufacturer doing something different just because they think it's "cooler" and not because it's actually better.

Other Thoughts: I bought this monitor to replace a Dell 3008WFP. Overall I think the 3008 was a better monitor, but unfortunately it was also the victim of poor quality and finally stopped working after only a few years of use.

The 3014 is good for a big 30" beast, but it doesn't perform nearly as well as most of its smaller cousins (nor as well as the 3008, in my opinion). If your primary goal is a huge monitor with lots of space then you'll probably be happy here. If your primary goal is great performance then you probably won't be happy here.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic

Pros: Massive, with amazing colors, and resolution. I bought this almost 100 percent for gaming and could not be satisfied more

Cons: Only con are there are some great new monitors (always the case) coming out later this year which will have a higher refresh rate with still a fantastic resolution

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome monitor, no regrets!

Pros: Beautiful colors, working in Lightroom on a 2560x1600 display is amazing, playing games on it - even more so! Using the latest version of the GeForce Experience, it automatically detected the optimal performance settings for my gfx card at the new resolution.

Cons: First one I received had a scan line issue so I contacted Dell and they sent me an advanced exchange replacement the next day. Great customer support so no stars knocked off for that!

Other Thoughts: Got a great deal on this from Newegg and Dell's customer service is top notch.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat monitor

Pros: Lots of pixels. Very little glare. Very reliable monitor. With 2 of these on my desk, I can't imagine wanting more pixels.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: We've been using these monitors at work for years. Every data processor has 2 of them on his desk (dual monitors). Great increase in productivity having all of that extra desktop space. We're in a Linux environment using NVIDIA drivers. No problems. We're not in video or photo editiing, so we don't really care about colors being exact as other users are complainging about. I've never seen the backlight variability that others are complaining about. They seem pretty stable to me. Been using them for years with no problems.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent monitor

Pros: I was very wary of buying this monitor after reading about the pixel overdrive issues and scanline issues other users were experiencing. I ordered on 10/30 from NewEgg's fleabay store and was hoping to get a revision A03 monitor, but instead received A01. Dell was willing to send me an updated (refurb) replacement after a few torturous hours on the phone with them, but I decided not to, as my monitor did not have the scanline issues corrected by A03 and I wanted to keep a brand new monitor.

All that being said, I am baffled at how nitpicky people are about this monitor. The colors are fantastic, and I do not at all notice the overdrive ghosting people are complaining about. Games look stunning, and I find it hard to imagine ever going back to a lower resolution. There is some back-light bleed when there's a black display, but I've never had a monitor that didn't have it, nor is it noticeable unless you really look for it.

If you don't like wide color gamuts (I thought I wouldn't but I actually really like the way it looks in games), you always have the option of switching to sRGB. Just keep in mind that the game mode runs in wide gamut and can't be changed, so you'll have to deal with a small bit of input lag.

All in all, I am absurdly pleased with this monitor.

Cons: Some back-light bleed. Newegg doesn't mention that the Dell warranty starts when THEY bought the monitor from Dell, not you! I lost 5 months on my warranty because of this.

Other Thoughts: It's better to see the monitor for yourself than to listen to all the people complaining about the overdrive issue.

1 out of 5 eggsUpdate to previous review

Pros: None at this point

Cons: Dell's next business day warranty is an utter falsehood...

I have been "dispatched" a replacement unit from Dell as of October 12, 2013 and is now November 4, 2013. I have been on the phone with them all morning and all they can tell me is there was a production issue and they are working on getting me a replacement.

In the meantime I have a $1200 monitor that is not as good as my $200 27" Samsung...

If Dell ever honors their warranty I will update the review with more information at that point, but for the time being I highly recommend no one buys this monitor.

And incidentally the "next business day" warranty Dell claims on this monitor I have been told that does not apply to replacements but only for any parts that I might need to replace on the monitor myself. So I guess that is only for the video cable?

Other Thoughts: Worst $1200 ever spent on my computer....

5 out of 5 eggsSpectacular

Pros: DP connections. Near perfect Quality.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Using as extended display with previously purchased 3014... and the system is amazing. And Newegg's service was, again, faultless.

1 out of 5 eggsStay Away

Pros: Go buy a NEC

Cons: Dell service is a utter joke... a "tech" that barely spoke English got on the phone with me and explained that the colors not printing like they show on the Dell U3014 are because it is "Ultrasharp" and makes the colors look better than they really are and the monitor really isn't meant for Adobe Photoshop or Premiere users...

After I explained that was ridiculous because it makes it useless to photographers and video editors because our clients don't have $1200 monitors on their desks... he then claimed he did not say that... after which he hung up after I asked to speak to his supervisor....

Now I am on hold yet again to get my monitor issue resolved... do yourself a favor and buy another brand

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate to previous review

Pros: This isn an update to my initial review posted 9/18/2013: After a recent suite of 18 updates from Microsoft, the monitor seems to be performing much better. Funny that none of the updates seemed to have anything to do with display output, and I still have the same Dell driver dated 9/13/2012, yet suddenly the two biggest of the problems are simply gone. I haven't noticed the color shift or the backlight dimming / brightening issue since that update, backlight bleed through is of course still there.

I bought this monitor for prosumer level photo editing and Blu-Ray encoding using Adobe Photoshop CS6 & Premiere Pro CS6, and it's here that the flaws I previously noted quickly became evident.

Sadly, this monitor fails miserably compared to the class leader (which comes optionally with SpectreView colorimeter) in color variance. At 14% color variance, the U3014 is fine for amateur photographers, and serious hobbyists, but for content creation / photo editing / video editing professionals whose primary paycheck is from this field, a 14% variance is not a very desireable trait. Still the best in class has just a 5% variance, but is also nearly twice the price.

Cons: > Still has the backlight bleed issue which is really only noticeable with very dark images (night time photos of stars, planets, moon, etc...) movies, & dimly lit games.

> Included SDHC card reader tops out a 8MB/sec read speed from a card that normally reads at 22MB/sec with Lexar Pro dual slot USB 3.0 card reader LRW300U rev B.1

Other Thoughts: Based on the recent disapperance of the two biggest problems I had, I would now consider this a keeper. I would also consider a second one if found on sale again.

Gaming performance: Though purchased for photo/video editing purposes, I am also a hard-core gamer, gaming up to 40 hours a week. With this monitor at 2560x1600, I've played: Diablo III, TES: Skyrim, Crysis 3, Far Cry 3, and Metro Last Light. I've experienced no noticeable tearing or ghosting without pausing. Too slow for 3D gaming, but as pointed out this was designed more for professional use than gaming use.
