Hi Danny, The monitor has a matte finish.  I really like it.  My monitor sits in a location where the sun hit is during the afternoon, but I still do not get much reflective glare.  Plus, images are sharp and colors accurate.  I plan to buy another one.

From the photos and specs it looks like the Dell U2414H does NOT have either a VGA or DVI port - is that correct?

That is correct. It only has modern interfaces since it was made this year (from dell website that i cant link):

2 HDMI(MHL) connectors
  1 Mini DisplayPort
  1 DisplayPort (version 1.2a)
  1 DisplayPort out (MST)

Since DVI is a digital interface there are lossless converters to both DisplayPort and HDMI.

I need two monitors. How can these be connected and serviced by a single hdmi miniport cable?

To my knowledge, no.  I don't believe that mini-HDMI supports daisy-chaining.  Two of these displays will daisy-chain if you use the DisplayPorts or mini DisplayPort though.  These are different that HDMI. The source device must support the appropriate DisplayPort standard for this which I believe is 1.2(?), I think that's right...  You'll want to double check though.  I have daisy-chained two of these monitors this way though and it does work but you will have to use the DisplayPorts.  You will also have to configure each monitor to leverage the daisy-chain method.  The instructions that they came with were pretty clear though.

The box contents are as follows:

Monitor w/ Silver Stand (as Pictured)
Cable Cover - Makes the rear of monitor look cleaner, but not necessary to functionality.
Standard Power Cord
USB 3.0 upstream cable for enabling the monitor USB, as well as Soundbar audio (if Purchased Separately)
DisplayPort to mini DisplayPort Cable - these are used for both the main display connection, and for Daisy Chaining multiple monitors together.  However if you do have an extra HDMI cable lying around, you can also use that - there is a port available.

There is NOT an HDMI cable included, however you can purchase an DP to HDMI converter/adapter and everything will work fine - or you can just use a straight HDMI cable.

is this monitor mac compatible?

Yes works well with my Mbp retina. I bought 3 of them to be a gaming array setup but was quickly bored of that and now I use then exclusively for my macs.

Is this DisplayPort version 1.2?

Yes it is, but don't expect DP to reliable work on these monitors. I purchased three of them, and DP was working on one of three, and it wouldn't daisychain. Ended up using HDMI or HDMI-DVI.

Search "U2414H displayport problems" and you'll see the issue is relatively widespread on the internet, and Dell isn't really acknowledging it.

Bottomline is that the monitor is beautiful, the bezel is thin, works great in Eyefinity, but the DP implementation is garbage.

How long is the USB cable from the computer to the monitor? To use the USB 3.0 hub integrated.

The cable is 6' long. The upstream port and three down stream ports are  next to the inputs and one down stream on the back of the monitor.

I bought two of these monitors and I am having issues using the mini-displayport on both of the monitors. It comes with a mini to display port cable and it just power cycles continuously. Both monitors work fine with HDMI cable. I have turned on the 1.2 display option in the menu of the monitor. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Oh and Dell customer support is just banging your head against a wall.

Yep ... installed about 60 of these and you are correct, the cable that comes with it if you want to use them in sets of 2 like I do, is NOT DP 1.2 compatible, had to find out the hard way when people kept calling me that the second monitor would not come on ... I had at some point ordered these cables because I was not sure they came with the monitors ... I use Intel NUC who only has mini display ports ... but in order to work, the cable has to also be DP 1.2 compatible ...

Yes, there is a mini display port I put plus two more regular display ports. It comes with a mini display port cable on one side and regular in the other, so you would be able to use it in your computer
