2 out of 5 eggsFails The Test

Pros: The thing basically did what it claimed. It wirelessly sends whatever is on the PC's screen to the TV.

Good price and really good idea.

Cons: Install not easy. You MUST have a wireless connected PC to get the new firmware installed. After that, you can access it via your home network if you wish.

Text displayed was basically unreadable. I think this is more a result of the difference between PC screen resolution and the TV's resolution. There are far fewer pixels on the TV so image quality is lost and it shows most in text.

Video image playback was stuttering. Sound was fine. Not as bad after I changed it to optimize for frame rate rather than image quality. But it was just barely good enough at that point.

The remote's control over the mouse was far from adequate. I had read that the mouse was slow in some reviews. But this was snail's pace and it sometimes would fail to respond at all - usually during a video playback. The mouse pointer would stop moving at all or it would disappear all together. The mouse pointer, like text, also suffered badly from poor image quality.

Other Thoughts: Perhaps text would display better on a hi-def TV where there are many more pixels. I tried changing my PC to lower the screen's resolution but that really didn't help enough. Plus, it made it harder to navigate the PC's screen (both from the monitor and from the TV).

Since the playback was fine on the PC, I assume issues have to do with the wireless transmission to the unit from the PC. The extra load on the wireless network could have been the cause. Perhaps if it supported the newest wireless "N" standard it would be good enough. The issue could be with the software or the box itself. Hard to know. One other thing that could possibly have improved things was connecting this box directly to my network router. But that would have been impractical for other reasons so I did not try it.

Sometimes, a restart of the system was needed to bring the mouse back (it was always fine on the PC - this was just on the TV). The mouse pointer, like text, also suffered badly from poor image qual
