The X6v combines a feature set that establishes a new benchmark for DSL gateways. The X6v integrates an ADSL 2/2+ modem, wireless router with firewall security, and a VoIP telephone adapter into a single product.

The Zoom ADSL X6v is an all-in-one solution for sharing ADSL service. The X6v provides all the features you'll need to make your ADSL access secure, easy to share, and easy to use. A built-in wireless-G router enables wireless networking to computers, notebooks, and other devices with 802.11g or 802.11b wireless capability. The X6v has easy-to-use Quality of Service (QoS) to guarantee upstream speed when you need it for applications like on-line gaming and Internet Telephony. An auto configuration wizard in the X6v detects ADSL network settings and makes DSL modem setup easy for all ADSL services, including Verizon, AT&T, Bell South and Qwest. ADSL 2/2+ support provides modem data speeds up to 24 Mbps.

1 out of 5 eggsNice Paper Weight

Pros: Worked for a month

Cons: Worked for a month

Other Thoughts: Consistently loses connection. assigns conflicting IP addresses, and Zoom Tech Support hung up on me without resolving the issue. Strongly recommend not buying a Zoom product. I was told that my 2-month old product was discontinued two years ago. And Newegg is very strict with their 30-day return policy.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Value, Great Modem

Pros: Excellent value for what you get. I bought it when it was on sale for $60, but would buy another even at $100. It allowed me to get rid of my VoIP router, wireless router, and modem setup that I had from cable and consolidate it into one unit. I use it with the AT&T DSL 6.0 service, and it was a breeze to set up. The hardest part of the entire setup was locating my account with AT&T so I could get my username and password, mainly since I was a new customer. The modem was set up in a minute afterward. It managed to locate all the settings automatically for AT&T. It was even easier to set up my secure settings compared to the Netgear wireless router that it replaced. Took all of another minute. I couldn't ever get my Netgear to set it correctly and was running on an open network. This is a great buy!

Cons: I only wish that I could have configured it wirelessly, but that's a very minor gripe for such an outstanding product. It also fails to make me toast in the morning.

Other Thoughts: As long as you read the manual, you can set everything up in no time. I have 2 laptops, my desktop, and a PS3 all set up and running great through this modem. Solid 5.5Mb/s download and 400Kb/s upload. Far faster than my old cable modem setup.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Decent price for a Router+WAP+DSL Gateway

These modems do not give the trouble the other review shows. I'm a DSL technician for a small ISP and we use Zoom modems as our main line. You always have the chance of getting a bad product but we go through hundreds of these things and they rarely come back. I would wager the last guy had some bad luck.

These modems do have a decent set of features too for traffic routing and other things. About the same as any other SOHO router.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: The squeaky wheel gets the grease?

3 out of 5 eggsTempermental, but...

Pros: Okay, for starters, this IS a good little modem/router combo once you finally get it to work. I'm seeing high marks on my connection speed compared to the modem and router it replaced.

Cons: Here's the downer. It's EXTREMELY tempermental. Every time I plugged in a new cat5 for another computer, I had to completely restart the router else the internet connection would completely go out, as well as when I set up the laptop to connect to it wirelessly.

I'm honestly dreading trying to set up the Xbox 360 and Wii with this thing.

Like I said above, when you finally get it to work, it does what it's supposed to do. It's GETTING there that takes some patience. I'm docking it two eggs for the two hours I spent trying to configure this thing.

Other Thoughts: MAKE SURE you follow directions EXACTLY. If you're replacing one modem or router with this one, do as it says and reboot. I spent another fifteen minutes realizing I missed this step, which doesn't factor into the above setup time (My fault, not theirs).

Overall I'm satisfied with performance so far, but I've only just got it up and running and done some preliminary tests. The real stress tests are still to come.
