5 out of 5 eggsReplacement part for an elderly friend

Pros: Still trucking along today ...

Cons: Other than it's abysmally slow by today's standards, there's nothing wrong with the hardware.

Other Thoughts: I almost thought I missed the dial up tone ... until i heard it again.

2 out of 5 eggsBarely

Pros: Easy to install

Cons: No DTMF dialing, only pulse. Extremely slow. Took 4 minutes to fax 2 pages (first page was cover, almost blank). Failed the first try.

4 out of 5 eggsworks with win98se

Pros: works out of the box

Cons: could not get the modem to make sound while dialing, but that is not really a "con" :D

Other Thoughts: does what it's supposed to do.

5 out of 5 eggsDoesn't work with Linux

Pros: Came with windows drivers. Nice packaging.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Bought this cuz of another reviewer saying that it came with Linux drivers. Well, it doesn't, and it doesn't work with linux. Newegg refunded my money, and told me to keep it, or discard it because it wasn't worth shipping back to them. I love Newegg.

1 out of 5 eggsSerious compatibility issues

Pros: It's a modem. When it works, it gives normal modem results.

Cons: Caused serious issues with the BIOS of my NForce3 Motherboard (Asus K8N), requiring multiple rounds of tweaking, turning off its default IRQ, changing PCI slots, and fiddling with other settings. After the symptoms reappeared after two weeks of more or less normal behavior, I finally removed the modem, and after clearing the BIOS (to remove my fiddlings) things went back to normal.

Other Thoughts: It doesn't look like many people are having my issue, but if you have an Asus K8N mobo, stay away!

2 out of 5 eggsOops

Pros: Cheap.

Cons: This modem has something wrong in the phone connectors. The input (line) connector wouldn't latch several of my cables. The output (hand set) was mangled somehow so nothing could be plugged in.

Other Thoughts: The card did work but took about forever to establish a connection. I replaced it with another brand that had workable jacks and connects almost instantly.

3 out of 5 eggsNo windows 64 bit drivers

Pros: I suppose it's a good modem, wouldn't know becuase I couldn't install it in my windows 64 system. It's not listed what operating systems it supports. I call Diamond, the guy on the phone confirmed no drivers then hung up on me.

Cons: I guess same as the pros, lol

2 out of 5 eggsBlah...

Pros: Nice packaging, inexpensive, comes with additional software (ie. modem helper, which is required to get a decent connection, and setting tweeker) and it connects quickly.

Cons: Slow data transfer rate, unstable (loses connection frequently).

Other Thoughts: This product should be packaged in a smaller, less fancy looking box because that is the only difference between it and a super cheap modem.
