1 out of 5 eggsThis sucks with TimeWarner cable

Pros: small & compact, easy to put anywhere

Cons: Drops IP address from TWC

Other Thoughts: This modem is recommended by Time Warner Cable, everyday you need to turn off the device then turn it on so it gets an IP from TWC which sucks. I wouldnt recommend it for anyone using TWC

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Mario G.,

We appreciate you taking your time to share with us your feedback for the Linksys DPC3008. We understand you're having challenges with its performance. Once the modem is configured with your cable Internet Service Provider, you should not be required to reboot the device everyday, unless there is a power outage that might have interrupted your internet connection. However, we want to look into the details so we can sort this out. Email us anytime if you still needed to reboot the unit every day. Send it to with your contact information and the link to this post so we can address this case accordingly.

1 out of 5 eggsThere is a known issue with this modem

Pros: Compact.

Cons: Extremely unreliable. Drops connection every 15-20 minutes with any sort of load.
Is known to have broken firmware. Should not be for sale.

Other Thoughts: I game and steam and it dropping connection bothered me. After investigating forums about why it resets every 15 mins, I found several posts about it being a firmware issue from 2012. The only way around it seems to be replace the modem. Why would Linksys sell me something that is broken? Why would they not have fresh firmware to address this issue. It's a 3 year old problem and it continues to exist. I've always loved Linksys products but this level of laziness changes my mind. I would return it but then I would have no internet at all and I would have to wait on the shipping. Instead I'm going to go to a store, buy a netgear or something, and then never giving Linksys money again. You guys blew it.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Kyle,

Thank you for sharing your feedback on the Linksys DPC3008. Allow us to take a closer look into what happened to your modem. Please email us your contact details at so that we can get in touch with you.

2 out of 5 eggsGood while it lasted

Pros: Fast, works well

Cons: Died after about 14 months, just outside of manufacturer warranty.

Other Thoughts: I've always enjoyed Cisco and Linksys products, this is my first bad experience with this company. I decided to try the Motorola Surfboard modem and so far, so good. I purchased an extended warranty through Newegg this time.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Lewis B,

We're sorry to hear about your recent experience. We're sad to know we did not meet your expectations. We understand your feedback and we're hoping to be of service to you in the future. You may reach us at with the link back to this post for further assistance.

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid

Pros: compact size, screw mounting tabs, runs relatively cool

Cons: limited support from manufacture

Other Thoughts: worked well for a few months, now it power cycles every 30mins when under high utilization; Not sure what changed...
Linksys will not support this device in any way, they point you to call Comcast (I'd rather punch babies). Linksys also does not have any firmware updates and refuses to help with this device, yet Comcast has multiple firmware versions (??) I purchased this device privately, so I'm not getting help from either side LOL.

When searching my issue, it appears that this "30min reboot" issue is common with the DCP3008, fair warning folks.

Manufacturer Response:

We appreciate the time you spent in giving our product a review. The DPC3008-CC is a Comcast version modem which is supposed to be supported by the ISP. You may try to do a hard reset by pressing the reset button for 1 minute. Once done, power cycle the device and observe the connection. Should you need help with a Linksys device, you may email us at

5 out of 5 eggsNo Hiccups

Pros: Biggest pro is not spending $7.00/mo to comcast for rental fees. :-)

Comcast uses this brand which was the main reason I bought it so it was easy to setup and update.

Cons: none

Had it 6 months now with no issues.

Other Thoughts: There are other brands out there but if they are not on the supported list with comcast you may have issues with updates. To avoid "issues" was the main reason I bought the same model that comcast was renting to me.

1 out of 5 eggsDrops packets on Comcast

Pros: none

Cons: It starts transfers and then stops. I cannot fully load a page with images in a browser. It will not complete the download transfer test. It is not that it is slow. It will not transfer more than a few kilobytes. Comcast support says the modem is operating "Fine".

Other Thoughts: No powers switch. You must call Comcast to activate. If you browse to the modem, you cannot login. Neither Comcast nor Cisco could supply a password.

3 out of 5 eggsSpeed or downtime? You decide.

Pros: 340 mbps d/l and 120mbps u/l puts this modem at the top of the mountain, at least at the time it came out. DOCSIS 3.0 was icing on the cake and makes it compatible with newer and future technologies. As always with signals, you don't necessary get your max speed due to things like signal strength (too strong a signal can cause major problems as well as too low).

I have a 50mbps Comcast connection and through speed tests and optimization I can bump it up to 56-60mbps through this modem. As far as speed goes it does what it says, but there is a downside.

Cons: This modem is notoriously known to have connection issues. I was lucky that it was over 1.5 years before I started experience any disconnections, but when it did it came with a whole world of hurt. Every 5 minutes it would disconnect, sometimes it wouldn't comeback on for hours. At times when it was connected my connection was SUPER slow, only pulling like 32kbps (which is seriously like dial-up) on what is supposed to be a 50mbps line.

I was forced to upgrade to the latest Motorola modem to enjoy my internet and haven't regretted it since!

Other Thoughts: Several cable companies adopted this modem as its own so if your cable company dares to put this in stop them immediately! Thousands of others know the frustration this modem has caused. A failure on Cisco's end.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks so far.

Pros: Haven't had any problems with intermittent connections yet. Super fast speeds co.mpared to my old modem

Cons: Comcast had problems activating the modem. Finally worked after letting it sit for a little bit.

Other Thoughts: Apparently needs an update right away, that is what I believe was the problem with comcast's connectivity issues.
