5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Compatible with Comcast. Saves $7 per month rental

Cons: none I am aware of

Other Thoughts: Ten years ago when i first got Comcast internet I had replaced dial up modems almost yearly due to storms and spikes. Rent seemed like a good value. Ten years and $840 dollars later using the same modem I decided to reconsider my options.

2 out of 5 eggsDPC3008

Pros: Seemed fast for the one day it worked

Cons: Took multiple phone calls and online chats to finally discover that according to Linksys this modem only works with Comcast which I do not have

1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't work out of box

Pros: None

Cons: Out of the box it seems to work, when traffic flows through it it reboots repeatedly(every 1-15 minutes when traffic is present). I worked some with my isp to see if it was a problem on their end(it isn't) and I didn't act quickly enough to return it to newegg.

I called linksys, after about 3 hours and 2 call backs they said it was defective and should be replaced. They approved me for an RMA and told me to call back M-F 6am-8pm to setup the return. I called back and after another 45ish minutes waiting for them to pull up my record, they indicated that I could pay to ship my broken one back to them, or I they could put a hold for $115.00(more than I paid for the new one) on my credit card and they would ship me another one. Then I could pay to ship my broken one back and they would release the hold.

Also they were going to give me a not used but not new replacement that was pulled to make room for newer models and was refurbished, and it would come with a 90 day warranty.(NOT 1 year like the one that never worked).

I asked the customer service lady if I could speak with her supervisor and she said "Why?, they are just going to tell you the same thing. If you go on-line to process it, it will also be the same" I insisted and she refused to put me in touch with a supervisor.

This is awful service from linksys, I'm going to be mailing my junk back to them and maybe we'll see if it works when it comes back. I'm never buying a linksys anything again(this is my 2nd linksys cable modem the docsis 2.0 one still works great even at 6 years old), but I'll never ever buy another cisco, linksys or belkin product if this is the support I'll have to deal with.

If any linksys support lurkers out there my case number is 130406-000-279

Other Thoughts: If I could put -5 stars I would, I also wish more of these issues had been in the comments when I purchased mine.

1 out of 5 eggsDPC3008-CC

Pros: very fast connection speeds

Cons: Cannot set static IPs on multiple backend systems via Comcast. LinkSys and Cisco argue over who will support it and as a result I cannot get any support on this. Comcast will not support it even though it is on their "approved" list. If you are using DHCP from your ISP, not problems. If you have static IPs from your ISP ... run! Buy something different!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Buy!

Pros: Inexpensive DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem - works on Charter. Takes about 10 minutes to hook up and configure everything if you know your account number.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I was paying $7 a month to rent a modem. I soon realized that was a waste and that I needed to purchase my own equipment. I've paid for this modem 3 times over in rental fees... What a waste. Definitely worth buying. Make sure your service provider will allow you to use your own modem.

5 out of 5 eggsComcast - MA/RI border area

Pros: ~True DOCSIS 3.0 version hardware (( bandwith seperation is prefect and soild for COMCAST USERS))
~modeum paid for in 9 mths of Flawless use Via Compcast (100MBS package= 50Mbs doubled speed special by comcast in my area ) now its free and free!!
~even when I was on lower speeds(50MBS) the download was insaine speeds = often tracked at 80+ in PEAK USER TIMES(6am-10am & 4pm -7pm)
~One of few Origional CISCO HARDWARE and now sold as linksys - and its flawless and worth the money i paid as EARLY ADOPTOR ( paid $120+ at that time)

Cons: Wasnt cheap !

Other Thoughts: ~get this modem if you on COMCAST upper speed packages - u be happy.
~wont have deal with lower level tech support at ISP ....as this modem works and works and works.
~ dont listern to other sad reviews - if you on comcast and have higher packages - get THIS MODEM (Moto is ok) but this is way better !!I have a feeling this modem was DESIGNED with COMCAST CHANNEL SEPERATION in mind ( also works great with other ISP eg in Aust & Europe) and they have same specs for CHANNEL SEPERATION (for a change comcast followed WORLD SIGNAL SEPERATION STNDS TRUELY@@)...... thus this is best of best DOCSIS3.0 modem for you - if you on comcast !\~ nope I dont work for CISCO nor any techie company - just know my stuff

5 out of 5 eggsCisco DPC3008-CC

Pros: Very fast and for me its been rock steady since day one.

Cons: None other than wish Mediacom would bond all 8 channels down and another up.

Other Thoughts: This modem isn't as bad as many are saying here. For me its just as good as the Motorola Doc 3's.If you have a good drop with good S/N ratio you will have no issues.Or maybe I'm just lucky, or know my stuff better. I'll bet the last.

1 out of 5 eggsCisco fix your junk!

Pros: Really fast WHEN it works.......... I really have no pro's to tag on this..

Cons: I'm going on my third Cisco modem, waiting on Mediacom to bring it out to me, today or tomorrow either.. But I've had the same problem other reviewers are having where my internet lights go on and off.. Internet is completely off nonstop because this thing keeps cycling on and off constantly.. As stated previously I'm going on my third modem now because Mediacom only uses this modem for whatever reason.. After maybe 4-7 months though they keep going out.. Or at least my last two did.. Third time is a charm?..

Other Thoughts: I really feel as though Cisco needs to step their A game up.. This is a sad piece of hardware honestly..

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Matt,

The device that you mentioned has a proprietary firmaware that only your ISP can manage. All technical support and troubleshooting must come from them. Did they give you any explanation regarding the issue?

Thanks,

1 out of 5 eggshorrible

Pros: its fast, when it works but that's about it.

Cons: This modem drops connectivity about every 15 minutes. By far the worst modem I've ever experienced.

Other Thoughts: I would never recommend this modem to anyone.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Chrevis,

The model of the modem that you have (DPC3008-CC) has propreitary firmware made and released by your local ISP. We highly recommend you contact them immediately if you are experiencing some problems with it. Hope this issue gets resolved soon.

1 out of 5 eggsInsane Rebooting

Pros: Fast when it works

Cons: I read the reviews about this device rebooting frequently. Most people stated it was a firmware problem with Comcast. My ISP is Cox and the device still reboots constantly. I called cox to gauge how often it reboots and their logs show it reboots 28 times every 2 hours!! RMA submitted and approved. I really wish this worked but I'll have to go for a different modem.
