5 out of 5 eggsCable Modem

Pros: $40 to make the cable company stop charging $6 a month... will pay for itself in 8 months.

Supports Docsis 2 up to 30mbps. I only pay for 18mbps so no bottleneck for now.

Cons: Doesn't support Docsis 3 and up.

5 out of 5 eggs5+ years and still chuggin

Pros: Does what it says, and runs like a champ. Mine's been going strong since December 2008. Buy it so you can save the Comcast extortion fees. Pays for itself in 3 - 6 months, depending on your terms.

Cons: Comcast

5 out of 5 eggsworks well with TWC

Pros: This modem works well and helps to reduce the fees charged for leased equipment. Compatible, and you get the speeds you pay for. What else is a modem supposed to do?

Cons: Although set-up is fairly easy, most of Time Warner's customer service personnel are not proficient in setting up customer furnished equipment. Spent over 1 hour on phone with CS, and finally got a top tier technician and she had me up and running in a matter of minutes.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Worked well for nearly a year.

Cons: After about 11 months this modem started losing connection, requiring the modem to be reset. Several weeks after it began failing it did not always come back online when reset but would randomly return to service. I became frustrated and had a technician from my ISP come out to diagnose my problem. I am now leasing a modem from the ISP and have trouble free internet access.

5 out of 5 eggsworking fine

Pros: Needed something better than the garbage combo modem/router the the cable company rents me. This thing is faster and I own it.

Cons: Old tech should be cheaper.

Other Thoughts: I have roadrunner light so I don't need the latest. My speed did increase a little compared to the garbage modem they originally installed. It also seems a little more stable.

3 out of 5 eggscheap

Pros: I wanted to point out that this does work with windows 8.

There is no such thing as not working with windows, it sends a signal, the modem has no clue what the OS is, it only sends a signal to your hardware, the lan controller. If anyone has a problem you need to try a newer or older driver for your lan hardware,( Ethernet hardware) on your PC.

Cons: Only one rj-45 and one usb, so you need a wireless router or router for more connections.

You can't tell if the modem is dropping or TWC as they are no great company. But at least each week I see it going down.

Other Thoughts: Remember, the modem has no clue and your hardware has no clue, they send are receive signals, that's it.

Just to prove the people wrong who say it won't work on win 8, I have this modem and is leased from TWC.

I have windows 8, and windows 8.1, 9471.
This will work on the RTM 9600 win 8.1, when windows releases it to the public.

Like I said, if this does not work try a different driver.

1 out of 5 eggsGreat when it works.

Pros: -Cheapest approved modem for use with TWC in the Columbus Ohio area.
-Basic & Barebones.
-Got to my in 2 days.

Cons: -After a month or so the modem drops connection and requires several power cycles to restore connection. Since firmware is controlled at the ISP's end and there is limited to no configuration tools, I'm stuck. A few days eariier and newegg would have hooked me up. I've heard motorolla charges shipping to swap out the defective modem for a replacement. which is not cool.

Other Thoughts: If i would have known...i would have paid TWC the few bucks and month to rent their modems.

1 out of 5 eggsNo Configuration Options

Pros: Easy to call Comcast and have them connect via MAC address.

Cons: NO CONFIGURATION OPTIONS!! You can't set this device to have a unique configuration. It has one config from the factory and that is it.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy it if you plan on configuring your modem to have your own unique internal network. Don't buy if you want to use this in conjunction with a WAP or firewall.
Buy only if you plan on using this device for one computer connection to the internet. Then you're good to go.
