1 out of 5 eggsNot Recommended

Pros: It was on sale for $4.99.

Cons: Caller ID doesn't work. Voice/TAM doesn't work.

Other Thoughts: I bought this modem specifically for use with CallStation. Caller ID and voice don't work even though this modem is advertised as being TAM-compliant. I emailed Rosewill Tech Support and they tell me it doesn't support standard USA Caller ID. If this modem truly is TAM then Rosewill should include some free software to use this function with Caller ID support for the USA where it is sold. I read the PDF files to manually enable Caller ID with FaxTalk, but the directions are for an older version of it. A new FaxTalk Messenger Pro 8 license runs $89.95.

Also this appears to not be a true hardware modem even though it is advertised as one. The driver calls it a "PCI SoftV92 Modem".

5 out of 5 eggsFaxtastic

Pros: 1. five bucks plus free shipping.
2. win7 loaded drivers automatically.
3. small card so easy install.
4. diagnostic test passed.
5. I actually succeeded sending a fax.

Cons: 1. none

Other Thoughts: I needed a faxmodem for my win7 system and tried using a couple old modems from a couple ancient systems. win7 tried and tried but could not find compatible drivers. I even tried forcing a couple drivers down win7's throat but it would just belch them out. Take my word, it is not worth the hassle trying old modems on a newer OS.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for Faxing with Digital phone service

Pros: Inexpensive, Free shipping (at the time) and Windows installed the drivers for me.

Cons: None. NewEgg's Rosewill products are great when you need an inexpensive part.

Other Thoughts: My aunt needed a Fax for her that new system. Her old PCI 56k Modem wouldn't install on a Windows 7 machine. This card was cheap and did the job. Absolutely no complaints.

4 out of 5 eggsSatisfied

Pros: The product was very, very affordable, easily installed for someone with Plug-n play skills and comes with BVRP Classic Phone Tools version 9. I do not think this is a Trial Version for the software as there was no indication as such. I was able to set up the answering machine for multiple mailboxes and recording. This took some time (See Cons). For $9.99 total, I do not think you can beat this

Cons: After calling Rosewill they said that the chipset on the product is old and does not support Caller ID. The chipset supports Com 1. Phone Technology uses Com 2 or something else, as told to me by the technician. In responses to other reviews, there seemed to be a solution to the Caller ID problem, so I am confused. Rosewill tech says this model does not support Caller ID. I would have also preferred a better User Manual, a pdf version rather than a search. I was working by trial and error as to how to set up multiple mailboxes with recording and playing of a schedule and recording new messages. The documentation was not very helpful.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well with correct drivers

Pros: Cheap, standard, easy to install.

Cons: Windows 7 didn't recognize exact model, so some features did not work, namely ring detect for fax. Driver disk did not want to install Win7x64 driver by autorun. Downgraded to 4* because of poor documentation.

Other Thoughts: I installed in my Win7x64 machine. Win 7 recognized and installed drivers. All worked EXCEPT fax did not answer ring. I tried driver from disk by autorun, but Win7X64 driver was not installed. Driver is on disk, under Driver/Win7-64, so I set up from there and all works just fine. The Driver directory has drivers for all MS OS back to ME, so I would install the correct driver from there and not trust autorun.

5 out of 5 eggsUsing it strictly for FAX

Pros: Worked right out of the box. Did not use the enclosed CD.
Allowed Win 7 (64) to locate and install driver. Unlike experience of some other users, the documentation on my box for this item does not promise caller id. It does state "Full speakerphone function", but I'm not completely clear what that implies. I did try Caller Id using the Phone Tray Free application (available on the web), and although it did recognize the modem, it did not work or appear to sense incoming calls in any way. I do not need this function, nor did I expect it, so it is not a problem for me. Whether or not use of the enclosed driver CD would have enabled Caller ID is unknown. Previous reviewers have suggested that that driver was definitely inferior to the default Win 7 driver. I didn't try it.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: The box does not indicate Win 7 support, but it works fine in my Win 7 (64) machine.

Unlike the experience of some other reviewers, the hardware installed cleanly in my home built ASUS MOBO machine.
At this point, I'm completely satisfied with this product. Assuming it continues to work properly, it's an amazing value for $6.99.
