1 out of 5 eggsProbably should look elsewhere

Pros: Price and it did seem to work much better and faster than the modem from Centurylink.

Cons: Started to drop carrier about a week after I got it and had to be rebooted almost daily, sometimes 2-3 times a day towards the end before I sent it back.

Other Thoughts: I thought I'd be the lucky one and get one that works but ...nope. Cost me over $10 to send it back too so maybe not so cheap in the end. No recommendations but I'd avoid this unit.

2 out of 5 eggsBuyer Beware

Pros: I was able to get it to connect to the internet, but not by following the "Please Read Before Proceeding" booklet...
None of the options\wizards mentioned even appear...

Cons: I have to manually re-connect the modem every time I restart my computer....
I am unable to access the modems settings through the 192.168.1.1 address listed on the device...

Other Thoughts: The specs say... "Unlike a dial-up Internet service, a DSL Internet connection is always on so that you do not have to wait to access the Web."

Most everything about the modem is contrary in function, as compared to it's description..

I called TP-Link Support.... They were not helpful, a bit rude, and actually hung up on me...

The Specifications say this is a modem\router combo. Tech Support says it is a PURE MODEM...

Tech. Support says it is NORMAL to not be able to access the modems settings through 192.168.1.1... because it is a MODEM and doesn't have that capability...

Tech Support says it is NORMAL that you have to manually re-connect to the internet every time you restart the machine....

I don't have a clue as to how other reviewers were so fortunate to purchase supposedly the exact same device, and just hook it up and go...

I personally think the modem is defective, but Tech Support says that is NORMAL...

I'm sure Newegg would swap it out for a new one, or a different model... But the shipping would probably be 50% of the purchase price.. Just more money down the tubes...

Even though this modem will do what I purchased it for... an emergency backup device, I'm a VERY unhappy camper, especially after talking to TP-Link's support...

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Modem for Cost

Pros: Reliable and worked with centurylink service where i am at. I haven't yet had a dropout due to the modem.

Cons: The modem itself is literally TOO light the weight of the cables attached to it pulls it off the desk i have to put weighted object on the cable to prevent it from sliding. Not really that big of a deal but I was really surprised at how lightweight this modem is.

Other Thoughts: Would I suggest this modem, Yes very much so. Save yourself money paying those sleazeball internet provides rental fees for a modem. I Just wish TP-LINK made a VDSL modem *hint hint*

1 out of 5 eggsYou get what you pay for.

Pros: It's cheap and in most instances plug 'n play.

Cons: It almost looks like this model has a build in fail. I work for an ISP that purchased 100+ of these modems (v5 through to v7) and within 2 years after use they started trickling back failing on the LAN port (about 90%) and some on the DSL port (about 10%). By the 3 year mark well over 50% of the modems had to be replaced. I've seen no other modem perform like this.

Problem indicator:
You will notice that when using a router it will perform very frequent logins. It can make your connection look slow. When connecting the device directly to a computer you should will in your Adapter settings that the interface keeps switch from 'network cable is unplugged' to back on.

On the ISP end they should see frequent logins (only if router is used) but the modem will report is online.

Other Thoughts: Playing around with the port speed (10/100 Full/half duplex) almost made it look like it got resolved but it did not.

Be prepared to replace this unit within 2 years.

5 out of 5 eggsBig problem - Easy fix

Pros: Easy setup, very inexpensive

Cons: Manual is not thorough. My ISP uses PPPoE, and neither I, or my ISP's tech support, could figure out how to get this modem to connect. I just happened to be browsing random FAQs on the TP-Link website....of different products....and found the answer as to how to connect. Once I found the info, i was connected within a matter of about 30 seconds.....but I only figured it out purely on accident.

Other Thoughts: This has proven to be a nice modem, especially for how cheap it is. It would be nice if the company would cover all methods of connecting to an ISP, at least in a PDF file on the included CD.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks like a charm.

Pros: Works like a charm. I haven't installed the disc or anything.
Plug and play. Probably running it in bridge mode, but that's fine with me. If it isn't broken, don't fix it.

Bought this specifically as a troubleshoot device and redundant modem and it's perfect for that.

One thing you might have to do is right click on the Windows internet connection icon and click "Windows diagnostic and troubleshooting".
Other than that, it should work out of the box.

Cons: It works, it's cheap and I can't think of anything to complain about.

1 out of 5 eggsNot worth the cheap price

Pros: Cheap

Cons: For the price, and some of the other people's reviews, this seemed like a decent purchase. That's not the case. I bought this last week, arrived on Monday, and after going through troubleshooting with someone clearly from China, I decided to bite the bullet and spend $80 on a decent modem from ATT that I knew would work.

What I learned is this:

1) The installation CD has software that doesn't work and the self help guides on there aren't any help either

2) The lady on the tech line told me that the modem itself doesn't come equipped with any software written on to it (she told me I had to use a wireless router to configure the connections)

3) I couldn't log into the modem's configurations as stated by the self help guide (refer back to #2)

4) My PC couldn't detect a connection to it at all

In summary, if you're in an area, like me, where DSL is your only option, just go ahead and get the recommended one that the company offers you, just make sure you pay for it upfront instead of going through monthly allotments, it'll save you in the long run. This modem is NO GOOD.

5 out of 5 eggsNo complaints

Pros: - Works as advertised.

Cons: - None.

Other Thoughts: Plugged right in to replace my leased DSL provider modem/router, which I already had in transparent bridge mode, and without further configuration, my linux router picked up the pppoe connection and I was online again in minutes.

This modem simply works. Make sure to verify with your DSL provider that your line protocol is supported by this modem before buying though!

2 out of 5 eggsBad Customer Service

Pros: Works

Cons: The setup disk is worthless so it was a manual install (Win XP Pro). Everything was connected and working fine except for the Broadband Connection in Windows - not something I mess with every month (maybe 3 years).
TP-Link was about impossible to get a hold of but even after reaching them, they wouldn't make any suggestions or recommendations. They passed the buck to ATT (which doesn't have it all together either)
