We’re sorry to hear that the device did not work as intended for you, and would like to offer some assistance. This device should be recognized natively in Windows 8, and does not require that any additional drivers be installed. However, please note that this product is not currently supported in Windows 8.1. If that is your OS version, we apologize for this inconvenience; we can suggest product USB56KEMH, which is supported in Windows 8.1. It can be seen on Amazon here: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00HNX1MF4. The drivers included with the card are intended for Windows versions 7 and older. If your PC is running Windows 8 (not 8.1), we would recommend un-installing them, as they are not necessary in Windows 8 and may be the cause of the crashes you described. The card should appear as "PCIe CX95610 Soft Modem" in the Modem category within Windows Device Manager.
