5 out of 5 eggsGood Modem

Pros: Easy to set up. No dropped connections so far. UL listed. Took only a few minutes with Time Warner Cable to get this registered and connected and get a credit for the old modem rental.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Did not buy at newegg - on sale locally and I could get it same day (weekend). If not for those 2 things, would have ordered it from NewEgg. This way I got credit on my bill for nearly a whole month's rental of the old modem.

4 out of 5 eggsDon't buy if you have TWC 200mps internet in LA

Pros: Good router and good price

Cons: If you have TWC in Los Angeles, they will not give you 200mps internet unless you buy the SB6183. Of course, TWC will never tell you this, they'll just insist that the SB6141 only provides up to 100mps speeds. So, unfortunately, we have to return this nice little router and get the more expensive one all in the name of avoiding TWC's new modem rental fees.

5 out of 5 eggsIt is good

Pros: Fast. Docsis 3.

Cons: Kind of a con. It seems that it only pairs with one device. Have to reset it when you plug another device into it. If you reset and plug into a router then you can plug things into the router. Then it all works fine. This is probably my fault since I haven't owned one since like 1999.

5 out of 5 eggsNote to Time Warner Cable future customers

Pros: I'm sure this is a good device and it would've made its money's worth if my provider was more flexible. See other thoughts.
Bought it bundled with a free buggy router, realized it wasn't really a deal shortly after when the prices dropped and better deals with the same modem came out....but I needed this and the price was good, so who cares.

Cons: Didn't get a chance to even test it. Was too late to ship it back.

Other Thoughts: I bought this prior to moving to an area where Time Warner Cable was the only ISP available. Did a good amount of research, waited for a goo deal, and finally bought this bad boy a few weeks before signing the papers for the new place. By the time I moved and had the TWC tech visit to set up the new account it was too late to ship it back, just my luck I guess. Long story short, I signed up for Phone & Internet with TWC. Turned out their phone service goes over the same coax as their internet, so I was forced to rent their special modem, which provides phone and ethernet output.

Even with all the research I did I was not expecting that. Had Verizon and Comcast and AT&T before this...never bundled my Internet with phone before....lesson learned. Now I have a brand new modem which I'll never use. Thought about selling it on one of the usual sites, but almost a year later...have not had time to do so.

TWC customers - if you bundle Internet with Phone, this is not for you.

1 out of 5 eggsNot so good

Pros: Worked great when it worked

Cons: Died after about 6 months

Other Thoughts: The cable company has a reputation for zapping customer owned equipment to death. Nonetheless, it died a quick death, leaving me with re-installing an ancient, out of spec modem to limp along with.

5 out of 5 eggsTime Warner Cable is much faster now...

Pros: I have TWC and they started charging me for a modem rental from them... they modem they had set up originally was terrible and ran very hot. I was paying for 15 MB down / 1 MB up, but only getting 10 MB / 0.75 MB. I bought this, called the cable company and had it registered, once I was online, speedtest indicated full 15 down / 1 up.

Cons: None... hopefully when Google Fiber comes to town I will be able to re-sell this.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Easy setup. Plug in modem, plug in router, call ISP and give them the modems MAC ID, start browsing the web. Easy as that. I get reliable speeds over 40Mbit/s down, 3Mbit/s up. This is over the advertised speed given by my ISP so all I can really say is this modem uses MY full potential. Plus the Modem hasn't reset or lost power yet.

Cons: 0 complaints

Other Thoughts: Double check that your ISP supports the modem before you purchase.

1 out of 5 eggsConstant restarts

Pros: None, buy something else

Cons: - Mine was restarting like crazy - 15-25 restarts every day due to "power loss". Had cable technician to look into problem - not their issue. Tried various PSUs (12v 2A), UPS - no difference
- Absurdly bright flashy lights - no chance to keep it in your bedroom unless you need a stroboscope for your night party
- Logs should hold more entries - couple of restarts and the new entries were overwriting older ones
- Not accurate signal power readings

Other Thoughts: All my issues went away when I bought D-Link DCM-301

5 out of 5 eggsit's a surfboard

Pros: This is a champ just like every other surfboard I have purchased and installed. Never had a connection issue be the fault of a surfboard. Won't buy any of brand of cable modem but Motorola

Cons: absolutely none

Other Thoughts: First surfboards were beige, then black, now white and they just keep going and going and going.
