5 out of 5 eggsGood modem choice for me

Pros: Decent balance for price/performance. Seems likely to remain relevant tech for several years to come. Easy to install out of the box

Cons: None yet

Other Thoughts: I would recommend this product to others who are interested in being able to take advantage of the ac technology from your provider.

1 out of 5 eggsGets Hot Slows Down

Pros: Its Pretty

Cons: After Complaining to comcast and changing out routers I traced my connection problems to this modem suffering under its own heat output. Putting a table fan blowing across it improves performance, it also has trouble communicating with my D-Link DIR-859 AC1750 but thats the Dlink routers problem

Other Thoughts: Why did broadband and wireless technology peak in 2008 ?

5 out of 5 eggsEasy setup, works as intended.

Pros: Simple setup with twc, I just called them and had it registered. No more equipment rental fees.

Cons: Bright blue system lights that stay on.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic Modem, works with Comcast

Pros: So far I've doubled my speeds and ping times over my older modem (Cisco DPC-2008CC)
used to get 97/9 now its 156/18 with a ping under 15 and the fact my speed package is supposed to be 100mb package so i'm doing better than what comcast says I should be getting.

Cons: Not wall mountable unlike the previous surfboard I installed at a neighbor's house, not a big deal in my case but if that's a thing for you then that would be a downside.
Otherwise none

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic deal!

Pros: Fantastic little modem! Would recommend for anyone who has an ISP package of up to 300mbps. Mine is only the 105mbps with Comcast and with their boost I'm getting 130+Mbps this modem is a docsis 3.0 which is the most current I have 0 complaints. I'm actually getting better speeds with this modem than the once Comcast leased.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: The lights are bright but it's neither a positive or negative view

5 out of 5 eggsEasy to Set Up & Compatible

Pros: -Simple plug & play
-Fast
-Great indicator lights that its getting the up/down connections its expecting

Cons: -Bright lights, not a con...but if you like a dark man cave this will make a shiney blue & green(especially the blue)

Other Thoughts: This is compatible with X1 in the Indy market. The new customer service policies comcast is putting in for X1 made his shockingly easy to install. Not usually one of their fans, but slowly enjoying their new CS.

1 out of 5 eggsGood when it works, but Arris won't replace it if it breaks

Pros: It is fast when operational

Cons: It worked very well for about a month, after which we started to notice intermittent connectivity in our internet. Of course the first place we went was the ISP and even had a technician out to verify all the lines. After that we ruled out all other components, i.e. router, splitters, cables, etc. At this point we were out of the 30 days Newegg return period. Begin Arris technical support.

Tier 1 was nice enough - wanted to go through all the power levels and not nearly as scripted as any ISP TS. I called them out on some incorrect information however, such as how the upstream power levels are determined dynamically. Got elevated to tier 2 after a two-business day callback period.
The tier two person for some reason wanted to re-do all the numbers... okay. I explained how I isolated the issue to the modem, how the ISP technician verified our connection, etc. The rep then tried to explain to me that the modem is a 'pass-through' device and if there were a problem the only outcome would be a total-loss of signal, not degraded signal quality. I tried to explain to him that the device is not a passive device, it has a dual-core processor on board among lots of other components any of which could have failed and be causing intermittent connectivity issues (I'm an EE, I know this stuff). He refused to accept this possibility and insisted that the problem was with the ISP because we still had some connection. After several rounds of this it became clear that he simply was not going to budge. I don't know if he is simply not very knowledgeable about low-level electronics, or maybe Arris is guilty of the unfortunately common customer service practices we know today, but the experience has made me extremely wary of any future Arris products. Its 2016, the internet of things is real, and these companies should be held to higher standards.

5 out of 5 eggsUpgraded from SB6141 on TWC

Pros: I did have to reboot my old SB6141 occasionally as it would downgrade to about 1% of provisioned speed. Not anymore. This one has been stable for 1 month with no reboot necessary. I have TWC 100Mbps plan.

Cons: I can think of a single con, and I am picky. Maybe could use more bells and whistles in the management interface?

Other Thoughts: I would definitely recommend this modem.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid product

Pros: Easy to setup.
Zero issues.

Cons: It doesn't make my morning coffee.

Other Thoughts: I had a Cisco modem that was purchased through Cox and it was only for 8 channels. There wasn't anything wrong the modem, but I needed a device that had room to grow. Arris has been around for awhile and they make a decent product. It was definitely worth the switch and easy to swap over.

5 out of 5 eggsUpgrade for Xfinity BLAST users

Pros: -16 DL channels future proofs this modem over the SB6141 (already considered EOL by Xfinity) & is worth the extra $30
-my DL speeds went from 128Mbit\s to 165-170Mbit\s
-FAST & STABLE
-Set-up in 10 minutes (including the call to customer service)

Cons: -It's white
-LEDs are obnoxiously bright

Other Thoughts: -My 1yr old SB6121 was only getting 128Mbit\s with the Blast 150 service.
Even thought it's "rated" for up to 172, Its 4 DL channels was the weakest link.
I'm very happy with the SB6183....should last me longer than a year this time!
