5 out of 5 eggsGreat future-proof modem

Pros: - Gigabit compatible for those that either want Gigabit internet now or in the future (1.4 Gbps)
- 32 bonded channels for downstream, 8 upload channels
- Similar design and interface as other Arris modems.
- On Comcast's list of "compatible" devices.
- IPv6 enabled by default (although you'll need to also enable it in the router)

Cons: Bright lights. As far as I know, there's no way to dim these.

Other Thoughts: I bough this modem to avoid the $10/month fee most companies charge for using their cable modems. Although the price is relatively high on this unit compared to other modems, the fact that it's gigabit compatible provides a nice cushion for future network upgrades. Although DOCSIS 3.1 is right around the corner, most will have this modem for at least a few years until speeds beyond gigabit become more mainstream. Handles 180 Mbps downstream like a champ, with plenty of room to grow if desired.

No issues activating this on Comcast's network. Although I didn't try internet activation, a quick phone call to give them the Mac address was all that's needed to complete the activation process. Relatively painless, and I was up and running with a few minutes. The longest part of the whole process was downloading the latest boot configuration.

Also, for those that might be wondering, the configuration address for most Arris modems (including this one) is 192.168.100.1

1 out of 5 eggsGetting 1% packet loss on wired connection

Pros: Worked great for the first 3 weeks getting 175 mbps dl and 25 mbps upload on comcasts 150 blast package

Cons: Getting 1% up to 2% packet loss regardless of rg6 cable or cat 6 ethernet cable being used. I have changed and replaced all the coax cable outside and inside the house. As well as replaced the ethernet cable .I have called my isp and i have have reset the modem. To no avail. Im extremely disapointed. I have not contacted arris yet, but I have been browsing forums and have found that others are experiencing the same problem this is supposed to be next gen ill update once I contact arris tech support

5 out of 5 eggsIndependence from renting equipment

Pros: - 32 channels available for downloading. (my area only has 24 channels actual for downloading).
- Day and night comparisons in speed versus SB6121.
- Worth the price
- Arrived in 48 hours from placing order

Cons: - Blue LED lights extremely bright. May bother some people but so long as you turn the router to face away from you it won't be a problem.

Other Thoughts: Patience is a must even to activate via internet for Comcast.
Laptop & Ethernet cable required for activation.

5 out of 5 eggsSB6190 Cable Modem Review

Pros: Works as expected, connected to the Cox network with no issues encountered during provisioning. Currently subscribed to Cox HSI Ultimate Tier: 200Mbps up/22Mbps down ( OKC Market ), getting the current stated speeds from Cox with no issues encountered. Decided to upgrade to the SB6190 from the SB6183 based on the specifications, the SB6190 is a 32x8 modem and is ready to handle any network upgrades Cox performs on their network to yield faster speeds. Also the SB6190 is powered by the Intel Puma 6 Atom based SoC ( system on a chip ), right off I noticed that the SB6190 runs cooler than the SB6183 which was powered by a Broadcom SoC. The modems status and information pages are quicker to pull up using the modems 192.168.100.1 IP address. All in all the modem thus far seems to be a worthwhile upgrade.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I recommend this cable modem if you are looking to upgrade your current modem. Again thank you Newegg for expediting the order !! always a pleasure ordering from Newegg !!!

5 out of 5 eggsReplaced my ZOOM 5314J w/ this

Pros: Works great! Replaced a 5314J (8x4) that was acting flaky. I'm now getting 15 downstream channels (I'm in rural VA). No increase in actual speed though as I was already maxxing out my Comcast speed tier of 150MB/s (getting 180MB/s). Still only getting 3 upstream channels as did the ZOOM.

Cons: The price, and having to deal with Comcast to get it activated.

Other Thoughts: Was a bit concerned purchasing the Arris as in the past I had tried a new SB6141 that wouldn't work. I returned the 6141 (not Newegg) and purchased the ZOOM that has been in service for a few years.

Comcast's online modem activation never happened so I had to call them and got put into the Activation Dept queue. About 15 minutes later I noticed the modem was activated and working fine. No problems since.

5 out of 5 eggsTired (update)

Pros: Works as designed. I now have Comcast 150 Extreme so you have to find a customer support tech that knows what they are doing. This modem has 32 download channels and for the 150mbs they lock in 16 of those download channels. There are 8 upload channels and they locked 3 of them for uploading. my download speeds are are 175 to 190 mbs and upload are around 25 mbs. The faster you can afford the more locked channels they use. you do nothing, they do. The IPv6 is a plus to open up up and down load speed channels.

Cons: none so far.

Other Thoughts: You need a wireless router that supports IPv6 or you won't get full speeds. I have a D--link 890 Ultra Tri-Band that works flawless with it and my wife's laptop went from 30 mbs to around 90 mbs after the whole upgrade. tested on three speed test sights before and after.

2 out of 5 eggsI don't get this product.

Pros: I bought it to be future proof but some stuff is causing problems or doesn't add up..

Cons: how come it supports speeds faster than its ethernet (the only connector) can provide?

Also even if this is on a cable company's approved items you may still run into issues. I could not get faster than 100Kbps even though cox in S. Cal offers 300 Kbps. They don't have it set up right yet, or there is a flaw in the device. From reading around it appears the security on this device is messed up too, it may be worth reading more into it before buying. Its behind an airport here, so didn't concern me.

Other Thoughts: I wanted to future proof myself, but am suffering because it is not living up to its potential now. Also who knows if they will build more channels or go fiber. Its a gamble of a future upgrade.

5 out of 5 eggsTired

Pros: Fast with future channels to expand.

Cons: Still have to deal with Comcast, if I change providers I will just go slower. I called them about my bill and next thing I know my package changes because I didn't understand the customer support woman or she couldn't understand me so I lost cable channels and my internet speed went from 105 mbps to 75 mbps. still don't know my package and have to call them back to haggle to fix.

Other Thoughts: So far it works great. trying to cut as much Comcast control as I can but it hard. now I have to turn in and cancel the Comcast modem and garbled phone service. going all cell. BTW, my D-Link DIR-655a is faster wireless signal than the Comcast all in one phone modem.
