A. Ethernet ports (4)

4-port Gigabit Ethernet Router enables flexible, high-speed wired connectivity.

B. Coaxial connection with moca

What’s MoCA? MoCA (pronounced “mocha”) networking is a great option if you don’t have easy access to a wired Ethernet cable. MoCA, which stands for “Multimedia over Coax” delivers the same high-speed network connection you get through an Ethernet cable, and delivers it through your existing coaxial cable (the wire you use to receive cable TV) to any room in your home.

1 out of 5 eggsWifi is very unstable, no updated firmware available

Pros: - All in one

Cons: Wifi is horrible. It does not connect to iOS full time. You would need to reconnect to Wifi each time. Very troublesome. Tech support is useless. Maybe I got a bad unit? Better wait for a few more months for updated firmware before buying. I'm returning this bad unit back and purchasing a separate standalone modem and router.

4 out of 5 eggsWeak AC Connection on Back

Pros: The unit seems to work well and provided a faster initial internet connection than my COX-provided modem. I had an older Cisco router. It does run warm but seems to have sufficient cooling to keep it under control. It has USB ports to connect shareable storage media which I have not investigated yet. Router Setup is not for beginners. This is not a plug-and-play unit due to the modem/router combo unit so you need to have some basic router and network knowledge. As with any router, Don't for get to change default login ID and password, admin IP, and device IP address ranges for safety and limit the number of connections as well as set your secure and complex WPA2 wireless access password. Also change the node name to something that does not identify you. it is a well-featured device if you want to get into its advanced setup options.

Cons: I had to remove the power cable to shut it down each day due to the lack of an actual power switch. This weakened the AC connection on the back and it eventually caused a break in the contact inside within about 6 weeks which I suspect is board-mounted and was causing the unit to power down any time it was moved/rotated. So unplug it at the wall outlet or have it on a switched power strip. They need to design a stronger power connection that does not rock. Customer service was accommodating as far as replacing it but I had to pay the handling/shipping charges both ways.

Other Thoughts: This is a newer technology modem/router combo and was jump up from my older equipment. Make sure you verify it is compatible with your service provider before purchasing it, so they can set up the modem section which I was able to verify with my own ISP. It is a dual band system.
