4 out of 5 eggsAll things considered, pretty darned good

Pros: In-ear headphones are tricky business. Often times, people don't understand how to properly wear them. And now that portable devices are so prolific, in-ear headphones have flooded the market will all levels of quality.

These are not the best I have ever heard, but they are close. They are also on the more comfortable end.

When worn properly (it's important to read the instructions), they produce tight, accurate sound.

Cons: A bit expensive. Cable is a bit shorter than other headphones I have owned.

Other Thoughts: The whole product just oozes quality. Solid construction, nice packaging, 3 different sizes for the very soft and comfy rubber caps. It even comes with replacement filters (the tiny wire mesh behind the ear-caps).

5 out of 5 eggsGreat, but read on for correct earbud position..

Pros: GREAT SOUND, if you put them in your ear correctly, read Other Thoughts for that... Love the earbud options, unique soft design

Cons: nothing really, just maybe a bit pricey, but it's Apple, so they charge you a premium....

Other Thoughts: Intially, with the factory installed medium earbuds, they sound really bad...really bad, very tinny and absolutely no bass. It was because I didn't jam them in my ear hole far enough. I was mad, so I tried using the Large Earbuds, and stuffed the suckers in my ears. You will know they are in correctly when it feels like they are in too far and your hearing gets muffled because of the earbuds' shells closing out the space. It will feel different than a 'standard' earbud setup. This setup is so that the speaker(s) are allowed to get deeper into the ear canal which then makes the earbud shells plug your ears, thus the odd "this isn't right" feeling. Think of it like an angled cork.....Well, turn on your music and they sound GREAT. Hope that helps some if you....

1 out of 5 eggsSame Old Junk

Pros: Better than the old Apple earbuds - a little better bass respose, probably because of the fact that they go in the ear canal instead of letting the bass get lost - but that's where the pros end.

Cons: The sound quality is terrible. The mids and highs aren't clear, and the bass is very shallow.

Other Thoughts: I bought these because I wanted a pair of earphones with controls and a mic for my iphone 3g without using an add-on cable, but the sound quality is so bad I just returned them. If you want good quality sound for around the same price, go for the Shure SE110 or SE210, and if you need the mic get a Shure MPA-3C (which works with any earphones by the way). Buying both those is a little bit more expensive than these Apple ones, but definitely worth the price.

3 out of 5 eggsNew Apple Ear Bud speakers ....

Pros: The design is fantastic. The ear bud various sizes provides comfort and noise disabling. The built in mic and remote control works great as well. The sound is good. Like everything Apple makes, they are beautiful and packaged like a Nano or iMac - nothing comes close on the market today that I have purchased thinking or reading reviews they were better than the Apple brand. However, they have always been wrong until this product. I guess with all the hype etc. about the new technology used in these new headphones I was expecting sound nothing short of my Home Theatre System which I have Polk Audio Speakers (expensive but I have only purchased speakers for my home 2 times in my 48 yrs). The first one's 20 yrs ago were Polk Audio and they were fantastic - just like the new one's I purchased. But, the sound on these ear buds did not live up to what I personally expected.

Cons: The quality of the sound. Everything else is worth the $79 price for headphones. They work fantastic, just the actual sound is not in my opinion much better than the original little ear buds that come with the Nano or iPod.

Other Thoughts: I was able to return these (thanks to the incredible service of Newegg.com) and have done an incredible amount of research on the Internet about headphones (learned a tremendous amount about how they work etc.). I purchased a different brand which is supposed to work with the new Nano I purchased from Newegg.com (the new Nano - is light years ahead of the 3rd Generation Nano I have had)! The new headphones which were not the Apple one's after my research, have not arrived yet - so maybe I was expecting too much, I will see in a few days when the new other ear bud headphones arrive. They better be much better than the Apple one's, they have the controls, mic, beautiful and a bunch more money, so if their web site holds true to the actual product, then I will be amazed.

4 out of 5 eggsSounds great, feels even better

Pros: Snug fit, superior sound, and a little more affordable than the $130-$200 other name brands. Works with iPhone and iPhone 3G to play/pause and answer/hangup calls.

Cons: Volume control does not work on iPhones (as already known). Hopefully Apple will update iPhone firmware to allow this.

Other Thoughts: Although these are not billed as "noise cancelling," they do a pretty good job of it. I travel weekly and have used them consistently for laptop movie viewing, iPod/iPhone music listening, as well as taking calls. They fit great, don't fall out, and do not hurt my ears like earbuds.
