1 out of 5 eggsGood but doesnt work right

Pros: Sharp, side buttons are solid, responsive

Cons: It randomly decides to stop tracking. It started doing this pretty much right after the 30 day replacement policy was past. It is extremely frustrating when simply navigating the internet it decides to cut out, even more aggravating in games. If I was able to exchange it for a new one I would give it a higher rating, but as it stands It's no good. Im a man on a budget so I have to stick with it, as my first laser mouse I am hugely disappointed.

Other Thoughts: I was so hoping for this to be amazing, and it was for a short time. My computer might as well be an advertisement for logitech with all the pieces I have with their logo, and this is the first time ive been let down.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

Pros: Tracking is really smooth. Wheel seems accurate and nice. Very comfy in my hand.

Cons: Nothing really

Other Thoughts: I originally had this mouse at work, and I liked it so much I bought the exact same model for home use. I rarely use the two next/forward buttons on the left of the mouse, but some people might. I also never use the functionality that lets you turn the scroll wheel into a continuous smooth scroll instead of having it click.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This mouse is sleek and seems to do exactly what I wanted. The price is not bad and I always enjoy Logitech equipment.

Cons: The tracking system is not awesome and the mouse is just not up to par with some of the other higher end mice. That is why it cost less...

Other Thoughts: This mouse is more of a common computer mouse. I would not recommend for high action gaming or detailed 3D modeling, but the mouse does its job wit most common tasks.

3 out of 5 eggsNot great, not awful

Pros: - Smooth movements on a plain white desk with no mouse pad; good enough for work purposes

- Mechanical switch to lock/unlock the mouse wheel for hyper scrolling, or standard notch-by-notch scrolling

Cons: - If you install the SetPoint software, the middle mouse button defaults to "application switcher", rather than enabling the standard autoscroll feature. Easy enough to switch it back, but really I shouldn't have to. There's nothing wrong with alt+tab or winkey+tab, Logitech. Leave it alone.

- Again on the topic of the middle mouse button, the audible and tactile feedback of pressing the middle button is practically non-existent. Even in a near-silent office, about an hour before anyone else has come into work, I could not hear the button.

- I'm not sure how everyone else holds their mouse... or what abnormally shaped hand was used as the model for the M500... but I tend to rest my hand on it far enough back that either of my pointer or middle fingers are able to rest on top of the wheel. In this position, my thumb does not reach the 'forward' thumb button; I have to shift my entire hand to reach it.

- Cannot change the polling rate.

Other Thoughts: I recently purchased a G500 for gaming at home. I wanted to grab another for work, but could not find any as cheap as the one I had already bought; thus I decided I would try the M500, which seemed a lot like an "office" version of the G500.

I actually somewhat regret buying the M500, especially when I have the G500 to compare it to. All of the Cons I listed are non-existent on the G500:

- the "Logitech Gaming Software" that came with the G500 is functional without being obnoxious, and does not default the middle mouse button to the application switcher.

- the middle mouse button click is very apparent in both feel and sound; it is not an obnoxiously loud click, either, but just audible enough for whoever is sitting near it.

- the thumb buttons are... well, just that, thumb buttons; they all sit right underneath my thumb, and I don't have to shift my hand anywhere to use any of them.

Despite giving this mouse 3 stars, I would recommend against purchasing the M500.

1 out of 5 eggsWorse tracking than my previous logitech mouse

Pros: Well, it was a nice looking box

Cons: Harder to position accurately than my previous mouse (also a corded Logitech mouse)

Support is just awful, starting with a "No documentation available" on the web site support page, to the typical know-nothing tech support reps.

And if you use the mouse left handed, the backward/forward buttons are a liability because they get pushed inadvertently with your left hand and you will end up disabling them.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Microswitches

Pros: * Nice shape.
* Great when it works.

Cons: Have had two of this mouse over the past year, both of them had their left mouse button microswitch fail with only around 4~6 months of use. Single clicks are registered as double clicks, rendering the mouse completely unusable.

Other Thoughts: Useful mouse for the short-term, but long-term it is anything but a sound investment. Look for quality mice elsewhere, Logitech does not deliver here.

2 out of 5 eggsNot a high quality mouse

Pros: It works.

Cons: -The mouse feet pick up so much dust and little particles which will make it feel extremely grainy when moving the mouse
-Lately I have been having tracking issues and the mouse will just randomly crash

Other Thoughts: Dont buy this mouse unless you are just browsing the web

2 out of 5 eggsTerrible

Pros: I picked this up at Office Max because there was a break in the cord in my last Logitech that's lasted 9 years and it kept cutting out while using it.

I picked the M500 cause it was the only corded Logitech they had at the store and at first I thought I was just having trouble getting used to a new mouse after so long, but it's just too frustrating.

Pros... hmm... It's comfortable in my hand (even with a smaller hand) and it has a nice rubberized grip feel to it.

Cons: * Okay, first off, like other reviews have said, it tracks HORRIBLY. I work in Photoshop and 3D modeling and when I'm trying to do any kind of fine-tuning work it's jerky and jumps around a LOT and very inconsistently. I thought it was my mouse pad and swapped out, but that didn't help any.

* Sometimes when I'm using it, it will just randomly wig out, and the tracking is just way out there, where it'll act like it's drunk. I liken it almost to being like the laser randomly gets out of alignment. It'll stop going left and right, or up and down. It's weird.

* Whenever I build up any static electricity and I touch the mouse, if it gets shocked, the middle-click horizontal buttons stop working completely and I have to reboot Logitech's software to get them working again.

* By the way? Yeah, it didn't even COME with the software, I had to go find it on Logitech's web site. Not a huge issue, but I didn't realize I had to get the software to use all the extra buttons (Win 7 wasn't recognizing them) and it was annoying that there wasn't even a note in the package telling me to get the software.

* To middle-click? You have to press down REALLY hard on the scroll wheel or it'll just use the horizontal left-right click thing. I disabled those and set them to middle-click. Was too touchy to use them all separately.

* The scroll wheel is also really random. Sometimes it's really sensitive other times it's again, like it's drunk.

Other Thoughts: At the moment I'm debating whether to take it back to Office Max and lose money on the restocking fee for an opened product or just hang onto as a backup for when I'm working on friend's machines, but I'm definitely shopping for a new mouse. I've never been so frustrated with an input device since I bought a wireless mouse for my laptop that died a week after I got it.

If you are planning to do any sort of image editing or detailed work DO NOT GET THIS.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible Mouse

Pros: Tilting wheel is nifty?

Cons: I have owned three of these, all were the same. This mouse tracks horribly. HORRIBLY! Like a ball mouse from 1996 at best. It may be a laser mouse, but it still has a very low ~125Hz polling rate like an old PS/2 port. The cursor movement is jerky and erratic at best and has built in hardware acceleration that makes it totally unpredictable.

It is also very thin and hollow (cheap feeling). Just junk, seriously. Logitech's first generation optical sensors were more precise and smooth than this "laser mouse".

Other Thoughts: I keep it around only as a spare to use while working on someone elses PC or laptop, but every time I use it, I am amazed at how truly atrocious it is.

1 out of 5 eggsWorked for a month

Pros: Was great when it worked. Very comfortable and it had all the features I needed. I have other logitech mouse and always loved their hyper scroll feature. I have always been a fan of logitech products but I think with this experience (explained below in the cons) they might have lost a loyal customer.

Cons: Only worked for about a month. I got this as a gift for Christmas and I used this mouse at my office. I left work and it was working fine. I came back the next day and to my surprise the mouse was not working. My pc wouldn't recognize the mouse. I tried every usb port and tried rebooting the computer and still that didn't fix the problem. I then plugged in a spare lenovo mouse I had and that one worked fine. I then brought the logitech mouse home to test it on one of my computers and still the mouse didn't work. I did some researching and it seemed like a lot of people were having this same issue. I went to the support page on logitech and sent them a request about my incident and they just marked my request as solved. They didn't even make an effort to contact me or give me a response. I didn't expect to receive such terrible service from Logitech. Look elsewhere for a mouse.
