1 out of 5 eggsEasier to throw them away...

Pros: I'm the site I.T for our manufacturing division. We got a bunch of these mice from various vendors both alone and as combos. Too bad I can't just send them all back. They are junk. The last 6 I encountered I just threw away and replaced with Logitech wireless. No issues there.

Cons: Scroll wheel almost completely useless from the start. Even on a fresh load with no drivers other than Intellipoint/Intellitype, desktop or laptop, these things just don't work. BEWARE. This is the worst of the Microsoft, but not the only one to be ware of at this time. Just go with ANY other brand.

1 out of 5 eggsEratic, sticky feet, scroll doesn't work, etc

Pros: It's black?

Cons: Sticky feet, useless scroll bar, erratic cursor movements , at times ceases to work entirely. Pretty useless. Try Logitek.

Other Thoughts: The cursor does not always follow the mouse, then catches up and overshoots the goal. Feet are sticky on a hard surface, causing the mouse to jerk.
Instructions are visual. Only address for help on instruction page is sales only. Help files included are disjointed and do not necessary bring up the problem entered.
Does not scroll at all at times, jerkily at others. Using the method pushing the button does work to some degree, but is difficult on a large document (and the speed is hard to control)
Using MS troubleshooting I have achieved some scrolling but it is unreliable. Replaced batteries, reconnected the mouse to the transmitter achieving no substantial improvement.
MIcrosoft says the mouse should not be used near electronic equipment, telephones, metal surfaces, hubs, modems. Somewhat unrealistic for todays' small office. The transmitter distance seems to end entirely at about 3.5 feet, not six.
Scroll doesn't resize documents. MUch more. Bad mouse.

3 out of 5 eggsNot for gamers

Pros: It is a great mouse with a lot of selections if you have the latest drivers

Cons: This mouse requires a lot of tweaking, and will not work with some games (Dragon Age is an example)

5 out of 5 eggsGood mouse for the price.

Pros: Bought this for a customer, and it worked as soon as it was plugged in. What more can you ask from a mouse?

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Works good up to ~5feet from the recevier, can't ask for much better from a 20$ mouse.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't Buy

Pros: Cheap

Cons: The receiver thinks the mouse is continuously moving. While you don't notice any shake or phantom movements on the screen, the computer will not sleep or go to screen saver.

Other Thoughts: Vista Ultimate x64

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Mouse

Pros: Batteries seem to last well. Microsoft claims up to 6 months. It took a few minutes of pushing buttons to ever get it to find its receiver, but once it did, its never lost signal, or had to be re-connected. It has some weight to it, and feels nice.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Just 2 buttons and a scroll wheel, nice and simple, and it works great.

1 out of 5 eggsGreat mouse, no range

Pros: Great form factor, very comfortable, very responsive

Cons: Worst range of any wireless mouse I've ever had. The receiver has to be literally less than 12 inches from the mouse. Kind of ruins the experience.

Other Thoughts: Too bad. Narrowly averts greatness.

5 out of 5 eggsLove it, after modification

Pros: Looks nice
Doesn't cost much
Works great after modification
Only one AA needed for operation

Cons: Scroll wheel doesn't work well out of the box
Too palm heavy with both AA batteries installed - unbalanced

Other Thoughts: Solution to the intermittent scroll wheel problems: The problem occurs when the wheel's "click" spacing doesn't perfectly match up with the spacing of the rotating perforated wheel that blinds/reveals an optical sensor to trigger the scroll command. Modifying the mouse will probably void the warrenty, not to mention the danger of damaging something else while you poke around inside. There is a single screw in the battery compartment that holds the mouse together. I took mine apart and removed the plastic piece that rubs on the ribbed interior rim of the wheel. That plastic piece is what causes the "click". This essentially removed the wheel's reference for a single "scroll unit". So now I have a "free scrolling" wheel that doesn't click, but will scroll at perfectly regular intervals. The unintended benefit of performing this modification is that you can easily scroll VERY quickly through a long web page or document by flicking the wheel and letting it spin.

1 out of 5 eggsStay away

Pros: Nice ergonomics/design.

Cons: I bought three of these over the last couple of months from NewEgg. In two of the three, the scroll wheel does not function correctly. The wheel has a "scratchy" feel/sound then when turned feels like there are some loose particles inside the mouse, and of course movement of the wheel does not register with the computer. I buy these for CAD users, and they are useless!

Other Thoughts: I'm particularly frustrated because they are at a price point where I can't justify spending the time to do a return. So, no choice but to throw them in the trash, and feel like I got ripped off (which I did!). After much research, I've settled on the Logitech RX700 which seems to cure the battery use issues I've had with other Logitech mice, and has nice accuracy and response - suitable for use in CAD work. About $5 more than this mouse, but worth it.

2 out of 5 eggsThe famous scrool wheel

Pros: It's wireless

Cons: I have had three of this mouse and always the same problem, the scrool wheel. I think it's a problem for all Wireless OpticalMouse 2000
