5 out of 5 eggsBest mouse I've ever owned.

Pros: Manufactured October 2005, I've owned this mouse longer than any other. I didn't even realize I'd owned it that long until I turned it over while writing this review.

All four of the mouse feet are still present and accounted for. Not only that, they aren't even worn down.

The thing I liked most about this mouse was the thin USB wire. According to what I remember from the packaging, it was supposed to give a wireless feel but with the response and reliability of a wired mouse. I believe it fulfilled that claim accordingly, and although thin, the wire was never damaged.

Detents on the scroll wheel are another nice feature. I remember when I bought his mouse, a lot of mice had gone to the smooth scroll, which was a problem in some games that used the scroll wheel and expected detents.

I've always bound the 4th mouse button as a push to talk key for the various voice applications used for gaming. Prior to this, I wore out that 4th button on several mice, but the 6000 handled it just fine.

Cons: Wheel button has worn out after over 7 years of use, mostly within the past 6 months. I realize the wheel button is not often used, so perhaps it wasn't built as sturdy? Regardless, once I bound that button to the "dodge" function in Guild Wars 2 and began using it frequently, it wore out quickly. It still works, but triggers unintentionally when using the scroll wheel, which causes issues in some programs.

The metallic paint flaked off the emblem above the Microsoft logo at some point during the first year, but that is to be expected. The rest of the mouse has been polished to an almost mirror finish over the years of use, but I hardly consider that to be a con!

Other Thoughts: Say what you want about Microsoft's software or even their other hardware, but they make a great mouse.

I realize this is a discontinued product, but I felt it deserved a review after 7 years of trouble-free use. Maybe someone who comes across a used one will find value in this review, who knows. All I do know is that it will be hard to find a replacement for such a great product.

5 out of 5 eggsMy all-time favorite.

Pros: + Incredibly precise tracking
+ Incredibly smooth tracking
+ Well-weighted
+ Reliable (worked for 4+ years)
+ Comfortable (I have large hands, but this is an "average" sized mouse... not too big, not too small)
+ Ambidextrous design
+ Not wireless (no batteries or wireless interference issues)

Cons: None for me.

Other Thoughts: This is my all-time favorite mouse for daily use.

I have one of the Logitech gaming mice (G9, perhaps?), which is really great as well... but for some reason, I prefer this mouse when getting work done. Maybe it's not as twitchy as the G9, or perhaps it's the simplicity of the design. After all, the G9 is sculpted for the right hand, which makes you a bit more "locked in", which is great when gaming. But in daily use, I move my right hand frequently between the mouse and the keyboard, so maybe the ambidextrous/simpler design of this mouse makes it easier to transition without thinking about it.

After 4+ years, its right mouse button has started to act up, so I am looking for a replacement. I plan to buy two or three, because it looks like MS isn't making them anymore.

Best. Mouse. Ever.

2 out of 5 eggsGood until it died

Pros: Mouse was great for the first year and a half

Cons: ...but then it just died all of a sudden. I'm now having to use an older and less valuable optical mouse until my replacement comes in.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent mouse

Pros: Light, accurate tracking, works on most surfaces.
Buttons a very quiet (compare to InteliMouse Optical)
Side buttons are thin and up high which makes it hard accidentally press them when picking up the mouse.
The cord is long but thin and light, doesn't pull the mouse if it hangs off the table.
The wheel doesn't wear off very fast. After one year of very heavy usage it still have "force back" when rolling.

Cons: The side buttons are too far from my fingers, at least the thumb button. It took months for me get used to after using InteliMouse Optical for several years. If you have short fingers like me, you might not like it, at least at first.
Metallic paint starts wears quiet quick (but who cares?).
Laser is exposed in a hole, not dust proof.

Other Thoughts: Don't listen to all these people who complain about drivers and software on Windows, they don't know what they are talking about. The mouse uses generic HID usb driver, such driver available on XP SP3 and Windows 7.
The software that comes with the mouse changes without questions the side buttons functions, but you can easily change it to your likings via the same software.

4 out of 5 eggsGood desktop mouse

Pros: Comfortable, low power-draw, laser, responsive, ambidextrous..

Cons: Wire is VERY thin, feels brittle.

Other Thoughts: I bought this because my new DVI/USB KVM couldn't support my old optical intellimouse 3 that needed too much DC current from USB.
I Haven't used it yet for gaming, as I'm using it on a Linux workstation through a KVM, but later will have a windows desktop also on the KVM to try.
L/R side buttons default to back/fwd in browser, which is fine unless I bump by accident, but this seems less likely than on my old mouse, anyway

Doesn't feel quite as "full" in my hand as my old mouse did, but I tend to prefer larger mice/controllers.

5 out of 5 eggsIt's not wireless!

Pros: It's not wireless, it tracks great, the buttons are where I need the buttons to be, it's not wireless, the scroll wheel feels just clicky enough, the cord is lightweight and long enough, and it's not wireless.

Cons: None whatsoever.

Other Thoughts: I HATE WIRELESS MICE. This is the ultimate evolution of the non-wireless, non-"gaming" (bleh), non-overcomplicated desktop mouse. I hope they never stop making these. And if they do ever get discontinued, I hope I have time to stock up first. I have these on three computers and have two spares. Did I mention it's not wireless?

5 out of 5 eggsgreat mouse

Pros: simple, fits hand perfectly, buttons are in a great location.
great for gaming, surfing the internet, anything. very precise.

for a desktop the keyboard and mouse should be wired (more secure and don't have to worry about dying batteries while playing FPS games)

Cons: after about 10 months of constant use the part of the cord that rubbed up against the corner of my desk started showing wear and tear. put some electrical tape on that part and good as new.

Other Thoughts: this mouse fit better than any other mouse i have or have tried. love it

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Mouse! Win 7!

Pros: Feels great, fits hand nicely, moves smoothly, laser tracking very accurate, buttons click nicely, and reasonably priced. What more could you want from a mouse?

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Another reviewer said this mouse needs a driver for Win 7... I plugged it in to an existing Win 7 build and it found it immediately and has been working flawlessly ever since. If by "driver" the reviewer was actually referring to the bloatware that came on the CD, that stuff is totally worthless anyways and has no business being installed in the first place.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Good

Pros: Comfortable, light, sturdy.

Cons: the cable is a little broken now and the bronze wires are showing a bit. sometimes it wont connect because of it. but any number of things could have happen to it in this 2 years of having it.

Other Thoughts: Id buy another one.

4 out of 5 eggsThis mouse is an aimbot

Pros: Absolutely love this mouse.
After several months of ownership, everything works. The other reviews mentioned this mouse being slightly too big for the average hand, but it works perfectly for me; plus I got over the whole "accidentally clicking the side buttons" thing in under a week.

Very good length for the cord. I was not worried about this aspect at all, infact, I made sure to take the longest possible path from my computer to the mousepad just to make it look neat, and I STILL had leftover wire dangling idly.

Cons: Very occasionally, the mouse stops responding for a second. However, my old mouse did this too, so I believe it is a problem related to my computer, but I can't help but mention it.

It only happened to me once or twice though, and hasn't happened to me since forever. If it happens to you, be patient, it hasn't done a thing wrong recently.

Where my fingers reside on the mouse (on the buttons of course), the color is wearing off a bit and is turning black in that region. This can't be helped considering how often I use this computer and this mouse. Keep in mind my ownership for this item has been for several months.

Do not install that ipoint software that comes with the mouse. It binds the side buttons to magnify and weird stuff that messes up games. I installed it anyway, but in the end, ending the "ipoint.exe" task fixes everything, and disabled start up.

You know how skin comes off when you rub against stuff? This mouse gathers dirt, dust, and goodness knows what really e

Other Thoughts: I have found myself cleaning dirt off of this mouse very often, but I really don't mind the chore.

I swear, as soon as I got this mouse, I suddenly got loads better at every first person shooter game.
