4 out of 5 eggsGreat Item

Pros: Works great, very smooth operation even while gaming. Nice contour fits like a glove and very comfortable. Very smooth scrolling feature is better than old style clicks. Definately recommend

Cons: Range of wireless control could be better. I would not read mouse six feet away, maybe a line-of-site issue?

Other Thoughts: None

3 out of 5 eggsI expected better for this price

Pros: 1.) 5 buttons; As seen in the images provided, there are the 3 common buttons (right, left, and middle (wheel) buttons), the scrolling wheel with tilt feature (which has NOT yet, after a year, broken and has not yet given me any problems), and the two buttons on each side of the mouse (my favorite). +2 eggs

2.) The correct size and can be used with both hands; it fits my hands perfectly and is comfortable. After using it all day for work, school, and gaming, at 850nm (or dpi, it says nm on the label of my mouse) this fits my needs. I don't play FPS games at all though.

I am right handed but I am glad that Microsoft made a mouse that can be used by both hands. +1 egg

Cons: 1.) After a year, from time to time, probably at least once a day, I'll use my mouse, and a second after I finish moving it and I start to type or just stop moving the mouse and read something on my monitor, it'll start to move slowly, as if I was moving it myself. Now my hand is either sitting there on the mouse or it's at my side and my mouse will start to move slowly and slowly in the last direction it was moved. I suspect that the laser is starting to die and I got a lemon or something like that. I'm not sure. It's an annoying problem that only happens about once or twice a day. -1 egg

I bought this mouse in conjunction with the Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 3000. My mouse said it was manufactured in February 2008 but I bought it in January 2009. That might have something to do with the annoying problem I get with my ghost mouse.

2.) The top paint for the mouse (silvery paint) is CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP. It started to smudge off after 6 months of ownership. -1 egg

Other Thoughts: It has great utility, cheap paint that wears off after 6 months of usage and cleaning with a damp (distilled water) napkin, after a year it still works, after 6 months there's a little bug that is probably affected by the laser (see con #1), somewhat easy to clean, and the battery compartment is a bit of a squeeze (pro or con, you decide; it's probably tight like that on the batteries so that they don't fall out so easily if you lose the lid).

I just have to reiterate this; the placement of the extra 2 buttons is F A N T A S T I C. Easy to reach and use. EASY and I don't have to stretch my fingers or bend it an uncommon way just to press it. They work just as fine in my web browsers (although some Window XP windows don't utilize it like the "save as" prompts and whatnot) as they do in my games.

Now if ONLY Microsoft could make the same mouses with the same button placement as this mouse but only increase the DPI. 850 DPI is okay but not enough for what I want now. MORE DPI, PLEAS

5 out of 5 eggsGreat MS Mouse

Pros: Worked perfectly right out of the box. I am an avid gamer and have noticed no measurable lag. My previous mouse was a high end, optical, corded mouse. Just got tired of pushing cords around my desk top. I see no difference in responsiveness. The size and shape are the same as my old Logetech mouse which is perfct for my medium/large hand but is also very comfortable for my wife's small hand. She tried a smaller mouse but did not like that her hand dragged on the mousepad.
I get so tired of Micrsoft bashers. I have used many Microsoft products over my 36 years in the software industry and most performed as advertised.
Just follow the included directions, install the software that is also included and this mouse will perform beautifully.
BTW: My system is a 5 year old HP running XP, nothing special.

Cons: My wife complained about the top right button that has a default setting of "Magnify". She foundn it interesting, but she would hit it accidently which became annoying. However, the Microsoft software gives you the ability to select many options for each button, so, for her, I set the button to "Disable" until she can think of a better use for it. So, really, thus is not a con but a very good feature.

Other Thoughts: The large, easy to feel and use tilt wheel scroller is great. My wife never used the smaller, less accessable wheel on the old mouse. Now she uses this feature all the time with much improved efficiency.

1 out of 5 eggsWorst MS Mouse I've owned

Pros: Works out of the box

Cons: Want to change the speed it tracks, or how fast the wheel scrolls? Not without installing the Intelipoint software. Previous MS mice I've owned didn't need this software for these basic settings.

Worse, using this mouse/software breaks Windows ability to use a screen saver or for the computer to go to sleep. There is some "HID non-user data input filter" update via Windows update to fix this, but if like me you can't get it to show up to download, you are stuck.

Also, the buttons on this mouse are not responsive. I am constantly having to click 2 or 3 times to get a click to register.

Other Thoughts: It is mind numbingly stupid that a Microsoft mouse breaks Microsoft Windows functionality.

5 out of 5 eggs2 years and still working flawlessly.

Pros: I've had this mouse for 2 years now and it's been the most reliable piece of computer equipment I've owned in that time. Literally a plug-and-play device for me. I don't know if this mouse has an automatic sleep mode or not but batteries seem to last forever in it, and I normally just use whatever AAs I have laying around at the time. for being a wireless mouse I've noticed very, very little lag, although I'm not a gamer so this isn't much of an issue to me. on most surfaces I don't even need a mouse pad for this mouse.

Cons: The right side button isn't very easy to hit but being and ambidextrious device this is almost expected.

Other Thoughts: I originally bought this mouse because I was tired of using my laptop's mouse touch pad and wanted a real mouse. I have fairly large hands and this was just about the biggest mouse in the store at the time so I bought it and have not been disappointed.

My laptop has 32 bit vista on it. I just recently built a desktop and put 64 bit windows on it. both machines instantly recognized the mouse and all it took was hitting connect on the receiver and connect on the mouse to be able to use this mouse.

1 out of 5 eggsmicrosoft shouldnt make these

Pros: Hmmmm, I learned to never purchase microsoft mice or keyboards again, good lesson.

Cons: Microsoft is becoming embarrassing to to even speak the name. I don't know what their deal is but they are progressively putting out products that are worse and worse. This mouse has erratic behavior that is know in microsoft products, wish i knew before the purchase. The quality is cheap, the drivers are worthless. I set it up about two feet away from the receiver and it doesn't pick up the signal! Wow micrsoft, I can only pray you will be taken out by a company that understand the conept of quality.

3 out of 5 eggs"Plasticky" feeling

Pros: It worked right out of the box. Nice scroll wheel. Good heft to it.

Cons: My biggest gripe is the side buttons feel and sound "plasticky". They creak and grown when pressed. I got this as a gift so I can deal, but for the price these go for the buttons could feel a little more solid.

Other Thoughts: The smooth main button plastic is easy to clean but also feel a bit slimy from your natural skin oils very quickly. My personal preference would be for a rougher finish like on the sides.

2 out of 5 eggsNever again wireless

Pros: Great... when it works.

Cons: The wireless connection gets flakey WAY too often. Try pushing the "connect" button, removing the battery, installing fresh batteries, resetting the receiver, rebooting the computer... sometimes these work, sometimes they don't.

Other Thoughts: The whole wireless mouse and keyboard thing is great in concept, but it sure does get annoying when the wireless connection doesn't work. Save yourself a few bucks and a lot of aggravation and get a wired mouse. ANY wired mouse is better than this thing. For my next mouse, I'm buying any brand other than Microsoft just to let them know they can't keep selling junk and expect to get away with it.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Mouse

Pros: Feels great. Has good weight to it and fits well in the hand. Not sure what others are talking about with the range, I can still have signal with the mouse from the next room.

Cons: Not rechargeable?
