5 out of 5 eggsMy favorite mouse since 1999

This review is from: Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0

Pros: light, accurate, and a respectable number of buttons. The 4.0 has a terrible middle button/scroll wheel with a tilt feature. This one is great

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsBest mouse for the price.

This review is from: Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0

Pros: Solid tracking. Great feel.

Cons: none.

Other Thoughts: I've had two of these mice and they have never let me down yet. Solid performers.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

This review is from: Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0

Pros: Over the past 8 or so years, I have had 3 of these mouses. None of them have broken on their own - One broke during a move and my last one got knocked off the table onto the wood floor by the wife.

This is an excellent mouse. It has a great response time and is large enough to fit my hand.

Cons: None

3 out of 5 eggsworst mousewheel ever

This review is from: Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0

Pros: The shape and sensor are top notch. When it comes to performance, I feel that it's on par with much more expensive gaming mice.

Cons: The buttons have a cheap feel to them, the wheel is clunky and loud, and the side buttons have a bizarre feeling to them (they extend very deep into the mouse when pressed).

The scroll wheel on this mouse is easily one of the worst I have ever felt. It's shockingly unpleasant to use.

Other Thoughts: This would be a fantastic cheap minimalist gaming mouse if it weren't held back by it's equally cheap construction.

3 out of 5 eggsSimply not for me.

This review is from: Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0

Pros: Lightweight, extra buttons on the side are nice for games.

Cons: Side buttons feel cheap, scroll wheel feels cheap and doesn't roll as smooth as I had hoped. A bit large for my hands as well and somehow in total it cost me more than 40 dollars when shipping and warranty were included. To return it I have to pay more than 9 dollars shipping and only get refunded 25...

Other Thoughts: Probably should have found a local store to get a feel of the mouse before buying it. Shocked at the cost of shipping for returns..

4 out of 5 eggsThe legendary 3.0..back by popular demand!

This review is from: Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0

Pros: MUCH better initial feel of quality than the IntelliMouse Explorer 4.0. The wheel clicks nicely and the buttons don't feel like they are made of chewing gum. It's good to see this familiar and loved mouse back on the market.

Cons: Side buttons could use a bit more tactile feedback.

4 out of 5 eggsGets too much credit.

This review is from: Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0

Pros: - Sturdy shell construction, one thing to look for is how the shell of a mouse can bend if squeezed. It lets you know what the quality of the plastic is. This mouse is very durable as you can squeeze it very hard and nothing moves.

- Scroll indents like a gaming mouse should have. That's really the original selling point once most standard mice started changing in favor of smooth wheel inputs.

- Reliable tracking. Since it's a low sensitivity mouse when used correctly without acceleration and precision options, it needs to keep up with fast swipes. I have not had a problem.

- Simple design allows a comfortable palm grip. I think claw grips only work on small ambidexterous mice to be honest. Claw is never comfortable for me on any ergonomic mouse.

- Good button clicks. You get decent feedback from clicking the buttons. Not mushy.

Cons: - Not very customizable. You can assign actions to buttons, otherwise no hardware DPI adjustment, no macroing, I don't believe it has internal memory to retain settings either.

- The stock mouse feet are junk. You can use this mouse on a hard surface like your desk or an aluminum mouse pad, but it performs very slowly on cloth pads. It even feels like it could wear a cloth pad out really fast from all of the friction is causes.

- Being a low sensitivity mouse, you'll find yourself in situations where you're recentering the mouse a lot. This can get to be a very hectic but necessary process in games. Sometimes when putting the mouse back down on the pad very hard, you will force clicks from the left and right buttons. I haven't experienced that with other mice.

Other Thoughts: Look, the whole "top rated gamers only use this mouse," that most of you buy into is a gimmick just as much as high DPI and colorful lights. Most gamers in pro gaming circuits nowadays are sponsored by Razer and Steelseries and so on. You really won't find this mouse actually being used.

That said, this is still a fun mouse if you want to beat the snot out of it playing super low sensitivity FPS. Most of the time you'll be turning the in game sensitivity up and when you do that you start to rely more on software interpolation and lose some of the inherent hardware accuracy in drawing. That's the whole reason behind higher DPI gaming mice, you get to use the higher speed straight from the mouse with greater accuracy rather than having windows calculate and double/triple your input which can cause lag and mistakes.

Go ahead and buy this mouse if you can get it super cheap. It only really seems worth $15 at most. Otherwise you really are better off getting a Roccat.

5 out of 5 eggsBest mouse, hands down (HA HA)

This review is from: Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0

Pros: For people with large hands it can't get any better. Microsoft makes a good mouse, this just happens to be the best one.

Cons: None that I can think of in the 9 years I have used this mouse.

Other Thoughts: No need to invest in gaming mice, this mouse has served me well in many games; accuracy and comfort.

4 out of 5 eggsNice but flimsy thumb buttons

This review is from: Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0

Pros: + 5 buttons. I don't like mice that don't have at least one button on the left side to be used as a 'back' button or to cycle through open data windows in some applications.

+ Scroll wheel has detents and is not the smooth scrolling type (but see Cons).

+ MS IType software allows you to assign the buttons any function of your choosing and even allows for per-app settings.

+ Comfortable in your hand (if you are right handed).

+ Nice black and gray color scheme.

Cons: - Scroll wheel makes a creaking kind of noise when you use it to scroll.

- The large thumb button on the left side looks like it stands out from the body but when you go to press it, it goes all the way to flush with the body of the mouse before you can actually press it. If you tap it lightly you can see how flimsy it is. It does work but it doesn't give me confidence that it is going to last.

Other Thoughts: All in all it's a good mouse and I like the design of it better than the standard optical Intellimouse I've always used. I just wish the thumb buttons were sturdy and had a better click action to them.
