Microsoft redefines your webcam experience with the LifeCam VX-5000. This flexible LifeCam moves with your life, thanks to its unique bendable attachment base that lets you attach it to any surface. Featuring a world-class VGA sensor for 640x480 video, 1.3MP stills, and a uni-directional, noise-cancelling microphone, the LifeCam VX-5000 keeps all video communications crystal clear. This LifeCam also features pan, tilt and 3X digital zoom to ensure that you are always captured in the best light!
A dedicated button on top of the LifeCam VX-5000 activates Windows Live Call when pressed. This feature pulls up the Contact Picker, a tool that shows which of your contacts are online and available for a chat. The one-touch blogging feature lets you post High Definition LifeCam pictures directly to your Windows Live Spaces blog. Another exciting feature of this new Microsoft LifeCam is the One-touch Photo Swap access, which lets you share your photos from your PC to whoever you're conducting a video chat with.
There is a wide range of fun video effects, which let you add a cute backdrop or colorful frame to your video calls. To match the fun the front of the webcam features a brightly colored accent ring in Lucky Green, making it look as good as it performs. It comes with Windows Live optimizations for full functionality of the Windows Live Call Button, One-Touch Blogging and LifeCam Dashboard, and also works with all major instant messaging services including Skype, Yahoo and AIM.
Pros: Installs as a basic camera quickly with Windows XP by simply plugging it in. Mic is decent. Cheap. DO NOT use the clunky driver install package.
Cons: Driver setup is horrible, no standalone package to be found anyware for internet-less installations. Must download from microsoft's site. Cannot install without Live Messenger bloatware or a net connection. Very heavy and lengthy install process, I killed it after it took more than 10 minutes. In Process Explorer I watched it launch many sub-processes to update an assortment of .NET, Dr. Watson, DirectX, etc. components. There was no choice for a typical/complete/custom install, it simply said: "you need an internet connection to download the drivers, and it will include Live Messenger" whether you like it or not. Both the 350 MB of software on the CD and the 40MB exe from Microsoft's site STILL wanted to download more components without giving an option to skip getting the most recent up-to-the-minute software/drivers. (cant they make a normal driver?)
Other Thoughts: The lack of lightweight, functional drivers kills the usability of this webcam. Will not recommend this to family.
The stand has much be improved, head barely swivels 20 degrees side to side, usb cable had plastic gunk on it.

Pros: Just an update to my previous post: This camera work with gmail chat. It's very fluid, the colours are defined, not washed out, and as true to life as I could expect for this price. The camera blurs very little, especially compared to others in this price range.
I bought it for $20 shipped when it was on sale from another retailer. Glad I got this one.
The stand is also very user-friendly, since it can bend to a variety of shapes; mount on your laptop or keep it on the desk. It doesn't fall off (I tried to get it to slip, but it woulnd't).
Cons: None so far.
Other Thoughts: It might be a bit early, but from what I've seen, I would recommend this for friends and family. If you can get it while it's on sale, it really is a steal.

Pros: Best webcam I've ever owned. The picture is crisp and clear, the mic works perfectly, and its the first camera I've ever had that stays put on top of my monitor no matter how many times I move it provided I stay within chord length.
Cons: None.

Pros: The picture quality is great for the price. Solid frame rates too. The mic is very clear, I use it for all my voice communications. A lot of cool effects and extensive settings.
Cons: bloatware (windows live), with low light compensation enabled frame rates are bad. Cam performs great as long as there is adequate light.
Other Thoughts: There are obviously better webcams out there. but for normal use i.e. skype, windows live, oovoo this cam is a great value and made by a reputable brand.

Pros: Video quality is pretty solid, and mic sounds reasonably clear. I actually bought a second one of these because I don't think you can really do much better for the price.
Cons: The software that came with the camera wasn't the latest; fortunately you can download the new stuff from microsoft for free (although it's a bit of a pain to find).
