4 out of 5 eggsGood value headset

Pros: I am not an audiophile so I can't comment on how precise the sound is; however, in my four years of gaming with these I have never had a problem with the sound quality. At normal volume both game sounds and VOIP participants were crisp and clearly understood. No complaints of sound leakage to others in chat.

The supra-aural design allowed for many multi-hour gaming sessions with no discomfort or sweating of my ears. The cloth (don't know what specific material) ear cushions & headband are very comfortable, and make the headset feel very light while wearing it.

The mic boom has a wide swing arc so I could set the mic below my mouth - no breathing into the mic and still clear voice transmission!

Nice long cord - I can wheel across the office to grab something on a whim without yanking these off my head.

Cons: The inline volume control. I've ran over the regular part of the cord due to its length many times without issue, but the connections at the volume control (which always sits well above the floor) are flaky:

- After about three years of regular use (6-10 hours per week on average) sound started cutting out in one ear. I eventually traced it to the volume control being set at max; backing off the wheel just a little bit was able to resolve this issue. Once I knew the treatment, this was rarely a problem.
- After nearly four years, the mic is finally failing. Wiggling the cord at the volume control can restore it, but it eventually cuts out again after a while. As I use this headset for communication, this will force me to upgrade.

Other Thoughts: This is my first set of Sennheiser headsets. I've heard the term "infamous Sennheiser clamp" and it's real: during the first month or so of use the headband was like a tightly wound spring - I could definitely feel it squeezing my head. Not painful, but concerning at first; if it had kept feeling like that throughout its life it would have been too annoying. However, after wearing it in for a bit that feeling has been GONE for years, and they now have a perfect fit - snug enough to not fall off (hard to accomplish with supra-aural!) yet light enough to barely feel them. I chalk this phenomenon up to "breakin period," so no eggs docked.

The supra-aural design allows you to hear most outside sounds with little to no muffling effect. I knew this before purchase and this is what I wanted; however, some people prefer sound isolation (for better quality/clarity) so these do not provide that. Again, I made an informed decision and this was my preference, so no eggs docked.

Despite the mic ultimately failing, I feel this headset was a good value for me, considering how long it lasted. I will consider Sennheiser again, although for my upgrade I will spring for a set which does not have that inline volume control.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: These are glorious. By far the best headset I've ever owned. Five years and going strong. Whenever these die, I'm probably going to get them again.

Very comfortable even over 12-18 hour sessions. They're large enough to provide immersive sound but they still allow for air to circulate through, meaning your ears don't start to feel gross after a while. Also valuable if you live in hot climates/homes, getting sweaty is not an issue.

Audio quality is excellent - better than I anticipated given they sit on top of the ears rather than fully surrounding. As good as audio quality gets without spending insane amounts of cash.

Mic quality is superb. I've done a lot of podcasts and livestreams, and my listeners routinely comment that my voice quality is superior to that of many others.

Build quality is very high. Nothing has ever torn, ripped, snapped, or even chipped. I've run over the cables with my chair hundreds of times, I've dropped them from heights of 4 feet and above over and over, they've been stuffed into backpacks and luggage for dozens of separate trips - still going strong.

Cable is plenty long and makes them usable no matter where my computer is stuffed.

Mine also came with a nifty USB to 3.5mm converter.

Cons: The ear pads are not replaceable, and being five years old they're a bit icky at this point. I've tried washing them delicately with soap and water but it's just not enough. I've taken to covering them with socks, so this is no longer an issue.

Changing the volume causes static on the input. Using the mic mute switch transmits a loud *click* that everyone can hear, so it's not very subtle.

Pros: * comfortable
* good sound quality

Cons: * very poor build quality
* plastic began peeling off of head cushion after a couple years

Other Thoughts: Sennheiser used to build high quality components, but the junk that here being sold here on Newegg is just that; junk!

2 out of 5 eggsGreat... While it lasted

Pros: Worked great while it lasted

Cons: Minor wear and tear on these headphones and the microphone gave out after a little over 5 months. I even have the cord wrapped up so it wouldn't be stepped on. Sennheiser is a decent company but these headphones are very cheaply made. I wouldn't recommend them.

5 out of 5 eggs5 years later, still running like new!

Pros: I have had this headset since 2009. The same one. Not a replacement, not an upgrade. The same headset. And it works like new. This is the headset you get when you want serious quality without a serious price tag. I actually bought them on sale for less money back then than they are going for now! The PC151 is famous for a reason, folks. I've had it for 5 years and I can say the audio quality is second to none. The microphone works fantastically well and has never disappointed me in any way.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Just stop looking and buy this already. Seriously. How many other headsets will last 5 years and work like-new after heavy use?

3 out of 5 eggsDownhill quality.

Pros: Wonderful sound replication. Good quality mic (when it works). They (mostly, see cons) fixed the volume slider right/left imbalance of the PC150s.

Cons: This is the second, or maybe third, pair of PC 150/151s I've owned. All three died for the same reason: the Mic stopped working. I took extraordinary care of the cables, so I have no idea what caused them to stop working. Re-buying $60 headphones just because the mic breaks is silly, so for now, they are just that, headphones. I have a dedicated desk mic for that job no.

Also, the volume slider problem of the old PC-150s was fixed when these were new, but after a year or so of use, maxing out the volume (say, the last 3-5%) causes one ear to get more volume than the other, or both ears to get quiet. Moving it down a tick fixes this. It's a minor gripe, but still annoying.

5 out of 5 eggsAfter 7 Years, It Finally.... died. (no regrets)

Pros: I've used these for 7 years... 'nuf said!

- Dead simple design and good build quality that makes them very durable.
- Great base without being too boomy and muddy.
- The mic sound is awesome (no surprise given the Sennheiser lineage).
- It's very comfortable hanging around the neck between use (the little things that make this a great headset).

Cons: - They do not isolate outside sound very well.
- They don't fold up.
- The fit is on the loose side (great if you have a large noggin like me) and not very adjustable.
- Drab, no nonsense style (a plus for some of us)

Other Thoughts: I bought these on newegg in 2007 (7 years ago!) which is why I still can write a review (love newegg). Needless to say, I'm very careful about equipment (my kids go though headsets about every 6 month). Recently, the right side lost the base response. Still works, but the sound is very thin and "tinggy". I'm pretty sure the cord has developed an open somewhere, hanging on by a single strand of copper wire. This is pretty much expected after 7 years of use. So I just want to leave this review and say these headsets have been awesome and I have absolutely no regrets in getting them.

4 out of 5 eggsNice sound!

Pros: Lightweight
Quality sound
Well constructed
Volume controls on cord
Fairly comfortable

Cons: Not as good as a "Beats" headset, but not $300+ either.

Other Thoughts: Actually it is a very good product for the money. I am happy with the purchase.
