1 out of 5 eggsBack to HD 428 for me

Pros: They were packaged well and looked good. They have a 6.3mm jack included.

Cons: Where do I even begin? They clamped onto my head too hard compared to my old HD 428s and were painful to wear for more than 45 minutes or so. The sound quality was abysmal. The bass was practically non-existent and everything sounded tinny, like headphones I would buy from the dollar store. I've read that some HD 280s a break-in period of anywhere from 100-500 hours, which to me makes them completely worthless. I should not have to break in a pair of reportedly good headphones from a well-established manufacturer that is otherwise known for quality products. After trying these for two weeks (my estimate would be 75-100 hours of actual use) with no improvement, I gave them away (a friend is a guitarist and has been looking for headphones that he can plug into his amp's 6.3mm jack) and bought a pair of factory refurbished HD 428s, which I might add were perfectly comfortable and had excellent audio quality right out of the box, unlike these HD 280s which cost three times more.

Other Thoughts: If you have to break in a $100 pair of headphones then you're getting ripped off.

5 out of 5 eggsAfter 5 years of almost daily use, still sounds excellent

Pros: In my opinion, the best bang for your buck on a headphone. Excellent sound from a sub $80 set, cancels a fair amount of noise, very durable, comfortable after hours and hours of listening, folds to make for smaller storage. User serviceable parts: after about 3 years of continuous use, I had to replace the head padding. Other parts can be replaced as well (cord, ear padding, etc.). I am surprised at how durable these headphones have been, even after years of folding & unfolding.

Cons: The cord is not the best for use when listening and walking in light clothing cause it is somewhat heavy (works best if you have somewhere to stuff/store the cord such as a jacket). But then again, its a larger set of headphones designed mainly for stationary use.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent, Balanced Studio Headphones

Pros: Superior sounding, perfectly balanced full range headphones that showcase every little audio detail.

It still has a strong and balanced bass, but does not sound unrealisticly boomy. Sounds great even with cheap laptop sound cards.

No advanced circuits to break later, no batteries, just great sound.

Perfect for producing music on the computer.

Cons: A bit heavy on the head. Almost twice the weight of the Bose QuietComfort 25.

Other Thoughts: For the small price I paid, they easily blow away anything I have tried in the stores, except for the Bose QuietComfort 25. (which costs $299 and requires batteries!)

5 out of 5 eggsBest Pair of Headphones I've EVER Owned!

Pros: -Amazing Sound
-Best Bang for Buck
-Don't Need Amp to run
-Long Durable Cord
-Big Ear Cups

Cons: -Not very stylish, which I don't really mind because I care more about other things (look at pros)
- Portability: (Again something that doesn't really bother me) They are not a pair of headphones that one would take to school or gym. If you are looking for a pair of headphones to jam with at the gym then you better look into something else.

Other Thoughts: I use these at Home ONLY and power them with a Creative SB X-Fi sound card. They sound Amazing!

If you are looking for a decent pair of headphones for your studio or home desk then I highly recommend the Sennheiser HD 280.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Sound Quality

Pros: Great headphones. I have bought 6+ over the ear headphones from Newegg in the past couple years and these are the best. The corded cable is also a nice bonus.

Cons: No cons

5 out of 5 eggsThey Get BETTER with time!

Pros: Comfortable.

Sound Fidelity is superb when pushed by a worthy device and clean audio files.

You can literally get lost in what you are doing with these on.

Gaming with a Sounblaster Zx on these cans is almost like cheating.

Unlike the more expensive line these do not require you to buy an expensive amp to run them.

Unless you are nearly deaf, these will produce more than enough volume.

They get better the longer you use them.

Cons: Some folks give bad reviews on these, yet you will not find a better set of cans within this price range.

Other Thoughts: Bought these cans for my son's birthday last year. He listens to music, plays online games, watches videos, you name it, with these on his head. Sometimes it is annoying trying to get his attention (for dinner or trying to set up an online collaboration in a game) because with these on you are immersed in what you are doing, the outside world just disappears.

So I asked him if he was going to need a new pair of headphones (was thinking for his birthday again next month) and he said something like "Are you kidding? I JUST got these broken in!" Amazed, I stuck them on my head and sure enough, they sound better and are WAY more comfortable than when they were new!

So, I bought myself a pair last week. Now I just can't wait till mine are broken in too... seriously, they seem a bit tight (apparently for the first few months of usage) but the sound has already improved noticeably (left them running at mid volume overnight). My son's set is more comfortable by far (they are identical but his are broken in), which he says it takes TIME to get them there.

If you want a superb set of cans that are built to need a break-in period and will last you for years of awesome audio enjoyment, then these are for you.

If you are impatient and want something expensive that will not require a break in (and will thus wear out soon) then you might not want these (and will probably give them a bad review).

If you are serious about audio in any way, do yourself a favor:

For a PC you want something equivalent to a SoundBlaster Zx (not any kind of onboard audio folks). The new SoundBlaster is nice because you can switch between speakers and headphones with a mouse click, and just leave your headphones plugged in all the time.

For audio playback the MINIMUM is 256Kb/s for MP3's.

And, of course, a set of Senheiser HD Pro cans!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Headphones

Pros: Fantastic sound
Comfortable Fit once adjusted (for me anyways)
Seem to be built fairly sturdy
Quality cord

Cons: None that I can see

Other Thoughts: I found them tight at first but after adjusting them and wearing them for a couple of times I wouldn't want another set of headphones. I find they block external sound really well, are comfortable (for me) and have great sound quality. The cord on it is a good length and of pretty good quality. I purchased a second set for my remote PC. Been using them for a while now and I'm happy with them.

1 out of 5 eggsNot good

Pros: Functioning headphones, long cord

Cons: Uncomfortable, too tight on my head, hurts to wear them for more than a few minutes

Woefully inferior bass and overall sound compared to my old Sennheisers

Other Thoughts: I bought these to replace a dying pair of Sennheiser HD 428s and I am greatly disappointed in this product. I'm a big Sennheiser fan and have used their products exclusively for years now but this pair of headphones really let me down. While the less expensive HD 428s were comfortable and provided excellent sound, particularly bass, the HD 280 is shockingly subpar. It sounds like the speakers are those cheap, tinny speakers you get in headphones from the dollar store. Well, not THAT bad, but it's closer to that than the excellent sound quality I would expect from Sennheiser. These headphones fit too tightly around my head, pinching in at both sides, making it uncomfortable to wear them for extended periods of time. I will just buy another pair of HD 428s and probably never wear these HD 280s again.

5 out of 5 eggsMoney well spent

Pros: well balanced sound
punchy bass
detailed but not fatiguing treble
little coloring

comfortable compared to old productions

Cons: narrow soundstage (but not bad for a closed monitor)

Other Thoughts: I bought the same model more than 10 years ago but sold it afterwards, not because it sounded bad, but only because the clamping force was too much to bear. After 10 years, owning more than 10 mid/high level IEMs and headphones, I decided to give it another try. I am glad I did!

If you see it on sale for $60 or less, do not hesitate to grab one.
