Pretty good with a nag or two
- Pros: Great sound quality for it's price. Has fantastic passive noise cancellation and fit very snugly on the head, as long as your ears aren't too big. A lifetime no-questions asked warranty doesn't hurt either.
- Cons: Fairly heavy for a pair of headphones. Fairly poor base response without equalizer modification.
- Other Thoughts: I happened to get a model with a crackling right headphone, but I just sent the headphones in to Koss and I got a brand new pair, no questions asked!
Great headphones!!
- Pros: You don't get any better noise cancellation than passive cancellation, and Koss wrote the book on cutting out the rest of the world. These are amazing. The thing that amazes me here is that no one mentions Koss' great return policy. Check it out at their website. I have 4 Koss QZ headphones, and when they start to go bad as all headphones do, I chuck 'em in a box and send them back.
I work across the hall from someone with noisy personal habits, and these are the only headphones that can allow me to maintain sanity. Gum popping, fingernail clipping, harumphing, hard candy rattling, coffee slurping an inability to ess.tee.eff.yew at near jet engine levels, and it all goes away with these headphones.
- Cons: The plastic could remain soft longer, but it takes at least a year of wear at 8 hours a day to get that way, so that's more of an observation than a complaint, as it is molded to my head by that time.
- Other Thoughts: I can't hear my phone ring anymore -- set your pager to vibrate, and get your boss convinced that you're managing interruptions to maximize your throughput.
Little Bass
- Pros: * Great passive noise cancellation
* Strong construction * Coiled cord great for short distance listening * (as listed on the box) great for picking out voices
- Cons: * Very poor bass response.
* Too much treble
- Other Thoughts: Giving two stars because other reviews indicated that the drivers provided good bass response, which is not the case. Most consumer headsets from Koss (UB-20's, UR-19's) provide better bass.
As it says on the box (which I wish I saw when I purchased) these are great for monitoring voices (scanners, com channels, etc) but really are not very good for full range music listening.
These are by far the best noise canceling cans that I've used.

The Koss Quiet Zone QZ99 stereophone is an extra-durable stereophone that delivers amazing passive noise reduction. Designed initially for use with racing radio scanners and metal detectors, the QZ99 has been a favorite for a wide range of listeners who need to cut high levels of ambient noise.
Built to withstand the rigors of outdoor or indoor use, the QZ99 features both a 3.5 mm and 6.4 mm plug and will connect to most radios and scanners.
The QZ99 features neodymium magnet structures for outstanding clarity and definition. Closed, Pneumalite ear cushions and extra-secure headband pressure create a complete seal around the ear eliminating all ambient noise from getting through.
A volume control on the ear cup allows for easy level adjustment if the sound source is out of reach. A Stereo/Mono switch extends your user flexibility. |
