5 out of 5 eggsA big step up

Pros: These are lightweight, comfortable earpads, the mic is good, and I might have forgot to mention they sound incredible. I'm coming from a decent headset...not quite as expensive as these but pretty nice. These things are incredibly loud (I have a sound card, have impedance set properly in my drivers) and detailed. The first match I was in I was jumping because you could almost feel the gunshots, hear clips hit the ground when you reload, even hear the sound of the empty cartridge hit the ground when playing with a sniper rifle.

One big pro of these for me is that you can remove the 3.5mm cable going into the headset so I will not have to buy another headset just because the cord screws up.

I am not an audiophile but I can tell a difference between these and a 80 dollar headset as far as sound quality and immersion.

The open back is no distraction while wearing them but they are pretty loud to people in the other room.

Cons: They are loud to others in the room.
I wish the mic was adjustable.
The material at the top of the headset could be softer.

Other Thoughts: Combine the pros, the fact that I can replace the cable if I screw it up and a 2 year warranty on the headphones themselves...I'm sold.

I still have to tweak my sound card settings a little but these are a step up from the unit I was using before.

4 out of 5 eggsGood ears. Great mic.

Pros: The mic is great. Tested on several platforms and it is very clear in every single one. The mute feature is convenient so I don't hot mic swear words to teammates that get me killed, etc... gotta keep that team chemistry 100.
Feels rigid with the exterior. I don't think these would break any time soon from what I consider normal "wear and tear" for a $200 investment.... I don't know what you guys do to drop stuff like this so often... clear your desk off or something.
I love non-leather circumaural headsets. These are comfortable on the top of my head and around my ears. They do not get heavy either. They do warm up after a while, but I don't notice/don't care.
Cable is long.

Cons: They were expensive. If these don't meet long-term expectations, I will not buy a similar product to replace it.
If you have a large head, or low ears, you may want to try these before you purchase. I have both ears down to the maximum - fits perfect - but it might not for the next guy.

Other Thoughts: Solid purchase being run on my laptop. Will eventually be on a proper desktop and will receive heavy (potential +4 hours a day) usage. I think I went a bit overboard with this purchase but I

4 out of 5 eggsupgraded from HD 555?

Pros: Sennheisers, good mic, side volume control.

Cons: Low volume.

Other Thoughts: I upgraded from old HD 555s had those for over 5 yrs and figured i would get something with a mic since i was happy with the HD 555s i went with these. over all they are a good set, the HD 555 had better sound quality but not my much, also the volume of these are much lower, i use to have my sound system on my computer set to 35 percent, with these i set it too 100 percent. Maybe i got a bad pair but i think that's a big differance. So just use these for gaming and my HD 555 for movies and music. 4 stars is cause of the volume or it would be 5

4 out of 5 eggsVery Pleased with Headset

Pros: Very sturdy construction - Headset feels very well constructed not like they will fall apart from usage.
.
Very Comfortable - I have had these for about 2 weeks now, have had a few long gaming sessions and they did not feel uncomfortable at all even after 4-6 hour gaming session.
.
Mic Quality - Everyone I have spoke with on TS3 and Mumble so far have said that I am coming through more clearly than ever. The noise canceling is great, TV noise in the background is minimal while using.
Also the mic boom is connected nice and sturdy, does not feel like it will loose tension or start falling down while in use.
.
Sound Quality - They sound amazing just running off my laptop (Asus G74sx). I would bet that if I had a more powerful source that it would sound much better. Good bass response, good mids, highs are not too overpowering. I put on some big band music to test and could hear more depth than ever before. In game I get a lot of good sound directional and depth of field response.
.
Ear cup Size - Large enough to get my whole ear inside for more comfortable feel while in use, so it does not crush down on parts of your ear. The padding is very soft and nice to the touch.
.
Open Cup Design - It allows air to flow in and out so that your ears do not get hot and sweaty even after a long period of use.
.
Cable - I really like the braided cable. Usually these will take a little more punishment than rubberized cables. 9 foot long so its plenty long for your need. Also has a nice Velcro cable tie so you can make it shorter

Cons: Out of the box they are a little tight on the head which is to be expected as they are not broken in yet. I just loosened up the head band to make it bigger which took care of the tightness. Not really a con because over a period of time they will break in and not feel so tight.
.
Also not really a con but in my house its causing issue :) - The open cup design. If you are listening to them at a high volume everyone in the room (including your wife) will be able to clearly hear what you are listening to and complain that you have the volume up too high.

Other Thoughts: They are a bit pricey, but similar headphones from other manufacturers that I looked into all had the same review. "Sounded great, broke after a few weeks of use" "Sounded great felt flimsy".
I know the Sennheiser brand and their background of making very good quality products. I would rather pay a bit more for a good build and good sound rather than have to worry about breaking them after some use.

They sound great and are very comfortable. Would recommend to anyone that games.

5 out of 5 eggsBest. Headset. EVAR. (but only w/amp)

Pros: Unbelievably Comfortable.
Sounds like heaven stuffed in a set of really nice speakers, with a subwoofer and an amp cranked past 11.
Sturdy feeling.
Excellent microphone.

Cons: You really do need a headphone amp to get the most out of this headset. I opted to buy the "Sound Blaster Omni Surround 5.1" ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16886112001 ) based on other reviews that mentioned the need for a headphone amp, and I am very glad that I did. I have tried the headset with my motherboard's headphone plug (HD Audio headphone jack router to the front panel of my case) and with the SB Omni Surround's headphone jack with the EQ set to "flat" (so that it matches the lack of EQ from the MB headphone jack), and you really do get much fuller bass and cleaner overall mids and highs from the SB Omni Surround.

Other than needing the headphone amp (or rather, a sound card that is capable of driving high-impedance headphones, which could be the SB Omni Surround, a PCI-e card with a built-in amp, or a normal motherboard headphone jack with an external headphone amp), this headset is pretty expensive for something that many people are apt to treat like the school bully's favorite toy when they get angry, ragequit, and throw their headset, controller, or mouse across the room. If, however, you want to have a headset that will allow you to utilize the sound of the game environment to play at a very high level, this is the headset you want.

Also, the white version costs $10 more than the black version, which I had to settle for because Newegg didn't have any in stock when I needed to place the order. The white ones would have matched my new case nicely.

Other Thoughts: If you use Creative's SBX Pro Studio (assuming you bought the Omni Surround 5.1) or Razer's Synapse Surround Pro to get virtual surround, I believe that you would really prefer it to using a headset with "True" 5.1 or 7.1 channel surround. It costs roughly the same as those headsets, but instead of spreading the cost out among up to 10 mediocre drivers, you are paying a lot for two extremely high quality drivers. You only have two ears, so digitally shaping the sound to mimic what your ear normally gets and pointing it directly down your ear canal gives you the same basic experience, except that the quality of the drivers actually gives you BETTER situational awareness, because you get better frequency response and clarity and a lack of any distortion.

3 out of 5 eggsBig Name Average Sound

Pros: I essentially bought the Sennheiser name with this headset, assuming it would compare with most of their products. These headphones are ok at best. Separation of sound in game is often difficult or even a bit muddy where I debate which way I need to turn, usually by then it's too late. Music audio quality is good, not great and microphone quality was also just ok. I had reports of people stating that I sounded like the mic was too far away from my mouth regardless of how close I had it. It does a fair job of isolating the sound and kicking out any surrounding noises like a ceiling fan or noisy people in the background.

Cons: Muddy audio makes it difficult to separate left/right audio channels in some games, no surround sound (my own fault), microphone had mixed results.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for a Gaming Headset

Pros: 1) Far as gaming headsets go the quality is there. Sound is clean. Bear in mind this also depends on the quality of your computer audio as well.

2) Mic quality is good. I've always had problems with previous gaming headsets having strange audio with mics. This one puts my voice through nice and clear.

3) Comfortable. I can wear these all day and not have any discomfort at all.

4) Mute. I cannot tell you how convenient it is in a high traffic house to be able to just flip the mic up to mute myself. Before I'd have to fumble for a mute button on the cord of headset itself and hope whoever I was talking to didn't hear whatever loud noises went on behind me. With this I just flip the mic up and no worries.

Cons: 1) Price. Goes without saying...this is one of the most expensive headsets out there.

Other Thoughts: Now to go back to my first line as far as gaming headsets go this one is the king. Sennheiser has great quality behind their name and it shows in this headset. You are not going to get the "audiophile" grade sound from these things (The sound is still great), but that's not what you're paying for here. Like with any headset you're getting voice and sound through the same device and, as far as that goes, this is a great product.

5 out of 5 eggsBest headset I've ever owned

Pros: Best headset I've ever owned. I'm not new to expensive headsets. I've had a good past experience with this manufacturer, so bought a new one from them when I thought my last one died. (I was mistaken, it's still works fine. Was a soundcard issue.) This is the first headset I've used that doesn't become uncomfortable after it's been on for hours, and it has great sound quality!

Great sound quality, comfortable over long time periods, well designed, cooler temperature.

Cons: Can be a little hot, but NOTHING like usual headsets. Hard to hear others in the room with you. You can hear them, but you have to take it off if you want to carefully listen to them even though it's open air. Isolates you from the outside world! (That can be a con, right?)

Other Thoughts: Wonderful headset! I'm tempted to buy and extra in case mine breaks in 5 years.

1 out of 5 eggsGet diffrent Sennheiser Set, don't cheat yourself

Pros: Good mic.
Comfortable. Physical switch in headset for mic.

Cons: -Music with these headphones is a no go quality wise.
-Soulds like a $50 set of cans.
-Sound quality is FAR below the HD598s I just got (around $150 new) and the HD 380 pros I have had since 2009.
-Not as comfortable as 380 Pros or HD598s, somewhat small around the ear.
-Keep in mind the price for those two sets is below these by a lot depending on vendor.

Other Thoughts: Any headphones with "gaming" in the name seem to be bad in general for anything other than gaming.
I love Sennheiser and the two sets of phones I have from them but I sent this pair straight back. Get a good non-gaming set and a quality dedicated mic if you truly want quality sound.

If your old Sennheiser set is broken or beat up its about $50 to get them fixed directly from them. The brand is awesome just not this set.
