Location, location, location: important in gaming as it is in real estate. Know where your team is? More importantly, do you know where the enemy is? Razer's HP-1 gaming headphones give you pinpoint accuracy, letting you know what's going on and where. Individual volume controls front, rear, center, bass and master help you focus on exactly where everyone is.
A built in amplifier lets you listen at louder volumes with enhanced clarity. The Razer Fidelity™ gaming audio engine was designed specifically to meet the needs of gamers. Razer's High Definition-Dedicated Audio Interface™ (HD-DAI™ connector) is designed to connect to the AC-1 gaming soundcard. For those that haven't stepped up to the ultimate gaming card a USB connection is available.
Because two-way communication is important, there's a sound canceling microphone. The mic can be mounted on either the right or left side depending on what's most comfortable for you, or it can be removed all together when listening to music or playing solo games.

THEY ROCK....BUT SETUP IS IMPORTANT
- Pros: These really are a good set of headphones for gaming and set an incredible level of fidelity to all applications. But like some of you who have reviewed this product I thought they absolutely SUCKED at first. I've got an XFi Fatality Professional, so keep in mind settings may be different for each sound card.
I was getting crisp clear highs, and after boosting the bass in my sound console, I got ear piece vibrating lows. I was only getting the extremes of the spectrum. I messed with the equalizer for hours trying to figure out what was going on. Well then I figured it out... DO NOT put the speaker setting on 5.1, this is the reason why everything sounds "distant", gun fire in CoD 2, and spells seemingly dull in WoW. Change your speaker setting to 4/4.1. Now go back in game, and if you have the bass jacked up you'll notice the exact opposite now, the headphones sound horribly booming, too much mid and the crispness overshadowed. Go back into your consule and adjust appropriately.
- Cons: The only cons with these, are the fact that they give you the wrong directions. Don't set speakers to 5.1, set them to 4/4.1.
- Other Thoughts: Play with your sound card settings. Once you get them dialed in these phones are incredible. Don't let the reviews worry you from buying these. As with everything else in life, hard work yields incredible results.
What I bought them for.
- Pros: True, unadulterated 6 channel audio in a headset. I like knowing that I’m not losing any detail that SRS or CRSS-3D and the like may exclude. Mic works absolutely fine for me. Most comfortable headset/phones I have ever worn or that several of my friends have worn. Like wearing a cloud. Numerically, audio quality is remarkable, but because I don't have a trained ear, I will only say that I set out looking for surround sound headphones and these delivered sound quality above my expectations. I hear everything and even some sounds I never heard before. Exposes bad audio compression like a sore thumb. USB power made the difference for me. All the connectors are gold-plated, even the USB. Top-notch component and wiring-wise. Plastic is thick and construction adequate (far, far from studio-quality, but don’t plan on them breaking). My choice when a full satellite system is not an option, but don’t throw out your speakers.
- Cons: The black paint began peeling away from the metal frames. Refinished them myself but discovered that there was no primer between the steel and the paint. Maybe I got a bad sample that didn't get primer, but it definitely should be there. The control unit feels cheap but is actually about as well-made as a plastic part can be. I would prefer click settings and illuminated dial markings so I know what I’m adjusting in the dark, as well as a mic cutoff and a higher quality power switch. My friends make fun of the blue illumination. I have no opinion on it. "Razer HD-DAI" is not digital as it is marketed: merely analog audio signals sent through a DVI connector. Drivers used in the "rear" and are physically just as capable of producing bass as the "fronts" (because they are the same part), but there is a noticeable lack of it. Velvet-like padding absorbs oils and sweat, leaving residue if set cups-down. Washable and more comfortable (read: breathable) than (p)leather though.
- Other Thoughts: I was looking for a true surround sound headset and decided on these. Later learned that they are a slightly modified rebranded product. Hooking these cans up to a Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty etc., I was initially impressed coming from Realtek AC97 and Gateway OEM stereo speakers. I’m still overjoyed by the fact that I can plug in headphones and still have actual 6 channel audio (which I guess you could say is simulated 5.1 because it's actually 6.2). Vibration effect is due to weights attached to the LFE drivers and is unavoidable at high bass levels: annoying in some cases and adding dimension in others. But overall I prefer my phones to rattle my head than to blow out my eardrums, which this set can still do quite aptly if you so desired, just with a whole lot of shakin’ going on.

not very happy
- Pros: Very good sound quality, I really enjoyed these headphones until they broke, as I will elaborate on below.
- Cons: I am on my second pair of these headphones, the first pair broke were the left ear cup holder meets the head band. This happened after about a month of very light use, maybe two or three times a week. It took three or four weeks to get a replacement pair, which I have been using even more sparingly than the first, maybe one or two times a week. Now two months late they broke again in the same spot. Now I am debating whether or not it is even worth my while and shipping costs to send them back to Razer.
- Other Thoughts: My head is rather large so this might be a contributing factor, from the other reviews i did not expect to have this many issues. Very disappointed overall.
Sound good! But very cheaply made!
- Pros: These sounded awesome when they're set up correctly. The bass in them is amazing. I used them for music and gaming and they were awesome for both.
- Cons: For a set of headphones that cost as much as these do, I expected the construction to be a little better. These were more flimsy than the $30 cheapo's I bought for my son. Granted, they don't sound as good, but they still work! I was EXTREMELY careful, and mindful of these because of how flimsy they seemed when I received them. Even taking great care, screws fell out, the left woofer started rattling around in the cup. All of this and I never so much as dropped them. I'm HIGHLY disapponted in razer with this product. I faithfully use their gear but h*ll will freeze over before I'd recommend this garbage.
Aside from the terrible overall quality of the unit. The mic design is also terrible if you buy these don't take it out when you're not using it (ie listening to musin while working or whatever) because it will inevitably break. Mine stopped working within 2 months of getting them. And it's not like I was rough with it or plug/unplug it excessively.
- Other Thoughts: All I can say is buyer beware!!! Don't even think about it. If you want to throw away money I'll give you my addy and you can just send it to me! Trust me, it'd be money better spent. ;)
I'm debating on the megladon's, they look sweet. But then so did these....
what's up with the mic?
- Pros: The headphones are comfortable if a bit warm. The sound quality was good initially, but I'm having some strange noise and quality blips in Aion. Not sure if that's the headset or the game.
- Cons: The mic.
Design - why does it look like it was tacked on as an afterthought? Why does it stick somewhere into my neck below my left ear? Why do you have to work so hard to seat it in the socket so it picks up anything? Sensitivity - I fought for an hour to get the mic to pick up any sound at all. I found a setting in my X-Fi control panel that finally resolved that. However, I have to bump the inbound up to get anything near acceptable voice level. And then once I do, the static noise level is simply unacceptable.
- Other Thoughts: Wrote a review on the Razer Lycosa keyboard that I purchased at the same time - dead keys on arrival.
