Location, location, location: important in gaming as it is in real estate. Know where your team is? More importantly, do you know where the enemy is? Razer's HP-1 gaming headphones give you pinpoint accuracy, letting you know what's going on and where. Individual volume controls front, rear, center, bass and master help you focus on exactly where everyone is.
A built in amplifier lets you listen at louder volumes with enhanced clarity. The Razer Fidelity™ gaming audio engine was designed specifically to meet the needs of gamers. Razer's High Definition-Dedicated Audio Interface™ (HD-DAI™ connector) is designed to connect to the AC-1 gaming soundcard. For those that haven't stepped up to the ultimate gaming card a USB connection is available.
Because two-way communication is important, there's a sound canceling microphone. The mic can be mounted on either the right or left side depending on what's most comfortable for you, or it can be removed all together when listening to music or playing solo games.

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: True, unadulterated 6 channel audio in a headset. I like knowing that I’m not losing any detail that SRS or CRSS-3D and the like may exclude. Mic works absolutely fine for me. Most comfortable headset/phones I have ever worn or that several of my friends have worn. Like wearing a cloud. Numerically, audio quality is remarkable, but because I don't have a trained ear, I will only say that I set out looking for surround sound headphones and these delivered sound quality above my expectations. I hear everything and even some sounds I never heard before. Exposes bad audio compression like a sore thumb. USB power made the difference for me. All the connectors are gold-plated, even the USB. Top-notch component and wiring-wise. Plastic is thick and construction adequate (far, far from studio-quality, but don’t plan on them breaking). My choice when a full satellite system is not an option, but don’t throw out your speakers.
Cons: The black paint began peeling away from the metal frames. Refinished them myself but discovered that there was no primer between the steel and the paint. Maybe I got a bad sample that didn't get primer, but it definitely should be there. The control unit feels cheap but is actually about as well-made as a plastic part can be. I would prefer click settings and illuminated dial markings so I know what I’m adjusting in the dark, as well as a mic cutoff and a higher quality power switch. My friends make fun of the blue illumination. I have no opinion on it. "Razer HD-DAI" is not digital as it is marketed: merely analog audio signals sent through a DVI connector. Drivers used in the "rear" and are physically just as capable of producing bass as the "fronts" (because they are the same part), but there is a noticeable lack of it. Velvet-like padding absorbs oils and sweat, leaving residue if set cups-down. Washable and more comfortable (read: breathable) than (p)leather though.
Other Thoughts: I was looking for a true surround sound headset and decided on these. Later learned that they are a slightly modified rebranded product. Hooking these cans up to a Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty etc., I was initially impressed coming from Realtek AC97 and Gateway OEM stereo speakers. I’m still overjoyed by the fact that I can plug in headphones and still have actual 6 channel audio (which I guess you could say is simulated 5.1 because it's actually 6.2). Vibration effect is due to weights attached to the LFE drivers and is unavoidable at high bass levels: annoying in some cases and adding dimension in others. But overall I prefer my phones to rattle my head than to blow out my eardrums, which this set can still do quite aptly if you so desired, just with a whole lot of shakin’ going on.

Sounds GREAT but fell apart!
Reviewed By: Treknobabble on 6/28/2009
Tech Level: high - Ownership: less than 1 day
Pros: Sounded excellent, absolutely loved listening to my games, music and movies with the intense wonderful sounds it was able to produce.
Cons: It fell apart while I was attempting to show my friend what it could do! I put it on my head, adjusted the mic and the right ear speaker snapped off without me even trying to adjust it. It was literally hanging by the speaker wires. It's not like I dropped it or ran it over with my computer chair or something (that usually eventually ends up happening as time goes by, not the first day!).
Other Thoughts: I gave it a two because it sounded great, it was just built poorly. I returned it the very same day.

Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
Pros: The 3D audio does work you can hear people behind u in games... For the cost Triton or other brands are much better.
Cons: Rear speakers are quiet. Sounds like a piece of plastic came loose in the right speaker and rattles around. Left speaker makes a digital static noise. Overall quality is nowhere near the cost.
Other Thoughts: Never buying anything from razer again. All of their products are cheaply made plastic objects with LED's

Failing Product
Reviewed By: Unhappy With Razer on 1/10/2010
Tech Level: high - Ownership: more than 1 year
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: They feel and look real good. The sound quality is not as good as some others in the same price range.
Cons: From day one, one speaker was softer than the rest. I found that the potentiometer in the volume knob was out of sync. I talked to Razer and they said there was nothing I could do about it. Unfortunatly, I waited too long to get it fixed and they were out of warranty. Now, the mic pops when I move around, and the plastic clips on the headband broke.
Other Thoughts: I recommend getting something else. I have other Razer products that are failing too.

Proprietary connector is fail
Reviewed By: Cerulean Dragon on 12/13/2009
Tech Level: high - Ownership: more than 1 year
Pros: Very good audio as headphones go, when new. The inline volume controls were very handy and easy to use with a big knob for the volume and simple, textured "wheels" for bass/treble and front/center/rear volumes.
Cons: Proprietary connector was dropped by Razer. They made the HP-1 headphones and the AC-1 sound card and that was it. Their new headphones all use standard jacks. It comes with an adapter, but you'd better keep close tabs on it (if you don't use it regularly).
They lasted a good year before the sound quality started becoming a little iffy. Since the source has always been their AC-1 sound card, it's hard to blame the source. Unless that *was* the problem, could be.
The tiny "eyeglass" screw holding on the right speaker fell out but luckily I saw it fall and managed to grab it before it vanished. I returned it from whence it came (Newegg won't let me use the word for inserting a screw into it's proper place :P), but ever since then the right ear has been staticky. Even before then the sound quality had degraded. Razer support said it would cost more to repair than if I just bought a new pair...
Other Thoughts: I've owned these for about 2-3 years now along with the Razer AC-1 sound card. I installed Win7 a month ago and discovered there's no Windows 7 support so far for the AC-1 sound card. I've long since lost the HD-DAI-to-3.5mm adapter, so the headphones have gone into my box of "useless electronics that I can't bear to throw away 'cause they cost me a small fortune when new". The sound card still sits in my PC, useless though, as I lost the adapter for it too. My 8yr old Sonys are plugged into my onboard sound and work. Not as good, but they work.
Final word: They're very good when mated to the sound card, but a little fragile. And with no more support for the HD-DAI connector, I wouldn't bother. They have at least 3 or 4 models of newer headphones that use more standardized connections.
